Toshiba 2001 Laptop System Restore Issue

My 2001 toshiba laptop was acting funny so i used system restore. I went through cd recovery and in middle it said no files contained. It now is just black screen with line in middle like old computers you type into. When i try to type it just beeps. What is wrong with computer? How can i get cds to work and reinstate files on computer? What is a site to trouble shoot problems with computer?

Answer:- if you did not back up your files etc to cd's or external drive they most likely are lost and not recoverable now. Always back up before making system changes and on regular schedule as one never knows when a operating system will crash or a hard drive will fail. Try pressing f8 at start up to enter start options, choose safe mode with networking and back up any thing of importance. What operating system? Did you use the system recovery disc set that came with the lap top? Did you stop the repair or system install?

I've pretty much tried everything, it didn't come with a recovery disk and when i restarted my computer and pressed whatever i pressed it only asked me to do memory diagnostics and to restore system settings with a restore point that i had to set that only set it to a recent point in time, which sucks. I got the computer in 08 and it runs windows vista if that helps any.

I have windows xp installed on my computer and i cannot use system restore on any point selectable to restore. The computer restarts and says "system restore cannot be performed on selected point, please try another restore point" and it does this for every restore point. How do i fix this?

Dimension E521 System Restore

Dimension e521 system restore. I want to go back to the pc's factory defaults because my system is very instable. Does anyone know which button to press to enter this 'restore to factory defaults screen'. It used to be ctrl+f11 in win xp, but i don't know what it is with vista. A friend of mine said it is now f8, but that doesn't do anything either. Would it be the same if i entered the bios and system restored from there? Or does that delete the os as well?

Dell Dimension System Restore

I have a dell dimension 2400 and the way that dell tells me to do a complete system restore isn't working. They say at start up to press the ctrl + f11 buttons and this will give me the option to rest to factory settings. However, when i do i get a keyboard not working correctly error. So, is there a better way to restore my settings or is there some way to download a system restore cd. How can i fix this problem. P. S. Whenever i press f1 or f12 those keys do what they should, the ctrl+f11 does not.

Dimension 3000 System Restore

System restore on dell dimension 3000. ?

I tried to do a system restore on a dell desktop - dimension 3000. I rebooted and did the ctrl+f11 @ the screen with the blue bar. It went into the whole thing about "losing all data and backing up the files". I clicked the continue button. Then it went to a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top left and then did nothing else for 15 min. I restarted the computer and am now back to the windows desktop. Why will this not work?

Additional details:-

I tried to do the system restore, but the only restore point available is today, about an hour ago. I need something before that point, but they are not available. That is why i tried the restore. I did it to my laptop and it worked great, but the desktop is giving me problems. Any suggestions?

I meant. That is why i tried the restore to factory settings.

Dimension 4600 System Restore

I need to restore a dell dimension 4600?

This is a relatives system that did not have a pop up blocker or anti virus protection on it since march of 2006. A free internet "house call" revealed that there are over 100 malware type programs on it. Extra toolbars and adware are evident. At this point i don't think norton or mcafee will be able to correct all problems. I believe i have all of the restore disk but i am not sure. Due to the nature of the problem i was unable to restore it to a "set point. " I tried tapping f12 on start up. I was taken to a menu that listed 7 things i believe.system restore was not an option on that menu. I didn't think it would be, as it came with all of the restore disks. Presently i have 8 disks i believe to be restore disks. How do i restore this machine?

I have an older hp laptop (dv6000) that i would like to completely restore to factory settings. I do not have the back-up files that i had created because i didn't think i would be using this computer ever again. As far as problems i am having, its running so hot that it is miserable to have on my lap, let alone touch, and it running slower than the speed of smell. Factory Restore Partition Gateway Laptop

I have a gateway mx6426 laptop. These machines have a d: partition that contains files for doing a factory restore. It also comes with a utility that allows you to create a recovery dvd. When i fist purchased the machine, i created a recovery dvd, using the built-in utility. Now, when i try to create a recovery dvd, i get the error:
"No recovery partition or update cd files found. Process aborted. "

Turns out, i'm not alone. Others have posted in forums requesting help on this one. However, i've yet to find an answer. Since my gatway laptop was a refurb, and my serial number is part of a series of refurb machines that aren't in their database, they will not provide technical support to me (unless i opt to wield the mighty credit card). Gateway support, did however, tell me that they know the solution to the problem - they just won't say what it is. So, anyone out there know this one?

From gateway's response, i'm guessing they put the recovery dvd creation utility on some type of timer or rigged it so that you can only run it once. i.e. I figure they've purposely limited the use of this until. Of course, that's only a theory.

How can i restore my compaq laptop to factory settings? Ok basically my computer is a mess and i want to make it like it was when i bought it. Apparently i need recovery disks or a previous recovery point, the discs it was suppose to come with or be ordered i never got to so thats not an option, and there is no recovery point anywhere near the time i bought it. Is there a way for me to restore it, but it still containing the windows vista basic it came with and the original program files (ie. Don't be shy, it will ask many more times, do you really want to do this¯ just keep clicking yes please. 1. This course of action will take about ten minutes and if you haven't saved any files that you might like to have kept its now too late. Remember this will take it back to the day you purchased. So, you can install any subsequent software, printer drivers for example, at a much later date. 2. Sit back and watch while it does its thing¦then bing its back and talking to you, to help you set up your new purchased pc. I suggest you install your (for you i suggest norton 3 user from tescos £24, that's 8 quid each, fit and forget. ) Or some such anti virus now. You'll need to update your system; this can be lengthy, boring and defiantly time consuming. 2001 Gateway Bsod

Somebody handed me a computer today b/c they said as far as they knew "it hasn't worked in years. So i was wondering what i can do to make this "hunk of junk" work again. From what i have gathered it was built in 2001 and is a gateway w/ a celeron in it. It has a 20gig wd hdd and an impressive 128mb of ram. The case size is about the size of a frickn laptop. One cd-rom and one floppy. Anyways when it boots up it takes you to the gateway screen and then it attempts to boot windows. After a brief second it takes you to advanced setup and no matter what you pick it hits you with a face full of blue. I first attempted to go through bios and see what options there are. Well it did not take long cause it' very basic. I then cleared cmos in hopes that the default settings would boot it up. Nothing. I happened to have a pair of pc133 laying around so i stuck them in just out of desperation, well now it would by pass the advanced settings and go straight to the bsblabla at this point i figured that i would take out the hdd and put in an old ibm aptiva and see if i could reformat the drive and got the same message any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

My toshiba laptop will not turn on? It stopped working on friday morning, i fixed it using these tips:

1. Remove the battery from the laptop (unplug it from the ac prior to removing it)

2. Plug the ac back in (leaving the battery out)

Dell, Toshiba, Or Hp Laptop?

I'm in the market for a laptop (my first) to last me at least 5 years with no problems or need for repair. I'm interested in purchasing either a dell, toshiba, or an hp (originally i wanted a macbook, but i've heard that that's not the best choice for a biology major-the compatible software is not as good?), But i don't know which one is best. I'm willing to pay up to $1200 as long as it has the following specifications:

-Built-in webcam
-Long-lasting battery (at least 5 hours)
-Best processor (fast with good performance)
-4gb memory
-At least 16" screen
-It must be quiet
-Must last me at least 5 years
-Dvd/cd drive (no blu-ray necessary)

Also, i'm not a big gamer (i like sims and nancy drew games, but other than that i really am not big into computer games). Please let me know if this request is even possible or if i need to lower my expectations! But please help me figure out which laptop to purchase!

Toshiba Laptop Keyboard Problem

I have a problem with my toshiba laptop keyboard. It starts typing z or / or by itself. Sometimes it is zzzzzz (tens of z) of !~! (Tens of ). For example if i try to type "hello" it will type as "hezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzlzzzzzzzzzlzzzo". Sometimes the up arrow or down arrow or page-down is pressed continuously. I have norton antivirus. I have run 10-20 antivirus, spyware and malware tools. They could not find anything. In a forum they said that this might be a keyboard hardware problem. Can you please let me know what should be done?

Toshiba Laptop Keys Not Working

A few of my keys have stopped working on the keyboard of my toshiba laptop after a dreaded water spill. When i spilled the water the laptop was off, and i immediately turned the laptop over and left it to dry. When i turned it back on, initially the a key didn't work and probably a lot of others but the a was the only key i noticed as my password has an a in it. A few days later when i turned it on the a key must have dried out more and it had started to work, allowing me to log on. However, it has been 5 days since i spilled the (small amount of) water on the keyboard and these keys do not work [q, x, win, fn, ctrl]

The x key works if i hold the key down for a long while, but the others do not seem to do this. Obviously the kb is not trashed as it still works for most keys and the a key started working again. Does anyone have any advice on how i can take apart and clean or make sure it is dry? Or what has caused the keys to not work after they are dry, i have taken a few caps off and the toshiba laptop looks pretty water proof (lots of rubber caps, and nothing looking rustable/corrosive-able) i could post pictures if needed or has anyone had experience with tosh keyboards who could help me. Replacing is a last resort as i priced up a new keyboard online at £50~. That doesn't seem worth it .
