System Reboot When Plugged Into Usb
Replies: 10 | Post Date: 12-07-2004, 01:14 AM | User: Memoir | Forums: hardwareforums.comMy system (winxp pro sp1) is rebooting out of nowhere when i have something (printer - hp 6110 all-in-one) plugged into either of the two usb ports on the back of the computer. If i have nothing plugged in, the system is stable. Any ideas of what to check? Seems like a conflict but i can't figure out what it is.

System Unstable After Reboot
I've a quite strange hardware problem on my system. After reboot system becomes quite unstable, so in windows i usually get a blue screen of the death. If the system survives about 24h to 48h running, it becomes stable. It's not a software issue since i've reinstalled xp, and have also the same trouble on linux (ubuntu). Memory test (with memtests) says no problem. And video card changed and problem persists.

System Boot / Reboot Issues
The system seems to run fine except for two issues i have been having: 1. When rebooting the system will shut down and then on restart it will make some carzy beeping and halt. This does not occur however when shutting down. 2. During boot after verifing th dmi pool it will try to boot from cdrom and then say it failed. However if i hit enter the system continues to boot fine. This problem even occurs when only the hard drive is selected in the bios to boot. I have search all over and found no information about these problems and i would greatly appreciate if someone could give me an idea of what to try.

Have To Reboot The System, When Playing Games With Max Graphical Settings
Whenever i play these hot games with killer graphics (f. E. A. R. And oblivion) with maxed out graphical settings and i quit the game i have to reboot the system. I tried using the benchmark from futuremark (3dmark 06) and when i came to the pixel shader 3. 0 tests i was able to see the same problems happening again. So what happens. When i quit fear/oblivion or the ps 3. 0 test is done and i return to windows the screen refreshes very slowly. It's hard for me to explain what happens. For example i press the start button:
1. I press start button
2. Screen turns black
3. Start menu appears
4. I select programs (or any other thingie from the menu)
5. Screen turns black
6. The selected thingie appears
And so on. Also this happens at a very low speed so it takes a while for me to open something i want. After a reboot everything is fine. I also experienced random blue screens of death while playing fear and oblivion, i do not know if the problems are related. So, in my oppinion it's something either wrong with my graphics card or the psu cannot handle it because this happens only when playing the most challenging games graphics wise (and with max settings). I tried playing call of duty 2 with max settings and nothing happened so far. The system is brand new and fear and oblivion are the first games i played on my system.computer specifications:
Amd athlon fx 57
Dfi lanparty ut nf4 sli-dr expert
Creative x-fi fatal1ty
Asus 7900 gtx
2x 1gb of kingston memory (khx3200a)
Psu antec truepower 550w

Usb Plugged Into Pc Will Shut Pc Off
Ok so my friend has an emachine and here is the issue. Certain usb devices that get plugged into the pc will shut the pc off in a matter of seconds and then windows will do a boot loop if the device is still plugged in. Normal things like mice and keyboards don't cause the effect, but bigger devices such as external hd's, or ipods or what not will cause it. Not sure why? And yes if you unplug the device, windows will boot like normal
Things i have tried:
Uninstalled usb, then let it reinstall itself. Different psu
Restore points, just in-case its software. Reset bios
It was working fine for say 2 years, then just all of a sudden this, so i'm still thinking its probably software related, but ya never know. Also i'm going to try to do a repair install of windows just in-case. Also its windows xp sp3. Usb ports are usb 2. 0 using the ones in the back on the mobo.

Computer Reboots When Usb Drive Plugged In
I have a 310m 2themax psu on the computer and a a7v400-mx se mobo. I cannot get the sound working and i am pretty sure i have wires it up properly. Sometimes when i plug in a usb drive the computer reboots. This happens alot. The speakers do work on other things but no output comes to them when i plug them into the computer. I used to have 3 fans running on it but then unplugged a few when it started rebooting. It has a 2800 amd athlon+ and uses onboard video, i also have a spare fx-5200 lying around. It has a 120gb hdd and a dvd burner. I think the psu, rates at 310w, should be able to handly it. I'm not sure what the problem is, anyone got ideas?

Usb Causes Reboot
When i plug a usb device (i've tried a digital camera and a ms internet pro keyboard) into my computer, it immediately crashes and reboots without any error messages. Device manager shows under universal serial bus controllers, both an intel pci to usb universal host controller and a usb root hub that appear to be working. I have windows 98 second edition on a pentium iii homebuilt with an abit motherboard. Any suggestions?

Computer System Year Resets To Year 2000 On Every Reboot
I have a funny problem on my laptop. Quite often when i reboot, the year resets to the year 2000. I would have said it was the cmos battery gone flat, but the date remains the same except the year. Eg just now it reverted to 3rd july 2000, the laptop details can be seen in my signature. It happens in slackware aswell as windows, so i know for once it's not windows messing up my computer.

Usb Devices Cause Xp Reboot
Running xp home addition, on a p4 1. 8 cpu and 512 ram. Any usb device, even a thumb drive, causes system to crash and reboot when it is plugged in. I get the "your system has recovered from a serious error message" when it reboots. Is this an os problem? Any suggestions, other than reinstall the os?

Usb Message: Hi-speed Device Plugged Into A Not Hi-speed Port
I'm rebuilding my system, and have two pci cards with firewire and usb ports. I remember before the rebuild i plugged them in and they worked. That was nice. Now, i installed them one at a time. The first one prompted no notifications, but when i plugged a device into it it warned me that it was a hi-speed device plugged into a not hi-speed port. I installed the second one, and it prompted the new hardware wizard, asking for drivers, but said it couldn't find them although i had dsl connected. The cards did not come with any disks and there was no problem getting them to work before.

Boot System From Usb
I am trying to boot from my usb flash drive. I followed the instructions step for step that are in the article on this website. I downloaded the hp program and the usb image zip file. I ran the hp flash program and pointed it to the folder where i unzipped the usb image files to. I then copied all the files over to the usb memory stick as instructed. When i restart my computer and press f12 to go to the boot menu i have 3 options: sata hard drive, cd-rom drive, or usb device. So i choose usb device and when it reads the usb memory stick all i get is the error "non-system disk, replace and hit any key" its like the usb memory is missing some system files or it doesnt have the master boot record or something. I want to flash the bios in a new video card and i have to boot to dos and i dont have a floppy drive and i have win xp so a usb boot is probably the best option i have.

Usb System Monitor
Does anyone know if someone makes an accessory that plugs into a usb port to display things like cpu%, memory used%, gpu/cpu temperatures, clock, etc? I have an old logitech g15 that will show me a clock or the cpu% and memory used %, but i want to replace it with a natural style kb. If i can get something like that, then i wouldn't have any more need for the g15, plus i'd have extra functionality. I bet these things could sell for ~$150 if they had a color screen and perhaps interacted with games, like the logitech products do. B&w, with the temperature monitoring, i'd pay $80.

System Crashes On Attempt To Install Usb Ports
I'm having an issue with a motherboard/usb installation. Each time windows boots up and the system attempts to find and install my usb ports, just after roughly about 10-15 secs the system crashes, and the screen goes black (pc still running). This happens everytime the installation begins, shortly after the "windows has found a new hardware" pops-up. Isolation - so far to isolate possible causes, i've tried booting the machine in safe mode, but to no avail - the problem persists. Also, i've gone as far to disable the usb ports from the bios menu, thus allowing the machine to boot and run successfully - but that doesn't fix the problem, it only isolates it.

Plugged In Not Charging
I have the hp g60 laptop with windows 7 and i am having power problems? I'll have it plugged in on somewhere like a desk and it will do things like randomly disconnect itself so it looks like it's plugged in but it's running on battery. Often when i do plug it it the little battery symbol will say plugged in, not charging. I've taken it back to the store to have my connector fixed as it was broken, but it hasn't solved the problem.

Laptop Plugged In, Not Charging
I have a dell laptop and it says plug in, not charging. How do i get it to charge? My laptop is already plugged in and it says " plugged in, not charging". How do i get it so it says " plugged in , charging". Answer:-
Verify the outlet that you are plugging into has current by plugging a fan, lamp, etc. There are some outlets in my guest house that have the bottom outlets working off a light switch.

No Sound Comes From Speakers After Headset Plugged In Then Out
My cpu has internal (integrated) speakers and also has 2 jacks in the front - one for headset and the other for microphone. All this time my speakers were working fine - until i inserted a headset (sony earphones). Now no sound comes from the speakers when the earphones are not plugged in. If i insert the earphones, the sound is perfect in the earphones. But no sound comes out if the earphones are not plugged in. Any way to get my sound restored ?

Ipod Mini Issues When Plugged In Pc
I have a problem with my ipod mini. When i plug it in my pc, the result usually is:
Un-installation of itunes, disconnection from both local network and internet, failure to connect to external hd. The only way to restore all this is to unplug ipod and reboot. Everything works fine on another pc (at work), so i only can update it there. Did anybody ever had the same problem? Can it be a virus? (Windows live onecare does not detect it)
And. What to do!?

No Sound On Laptop, When Media Cable Is Plugged In
When my media cable (which i need for power) is plugged in, my laptop's speakers become muted. Apparently, this is because the laptop is directing the audio to the media cable (which has an audio function. )
Is there any way to keep the laptop's speakers functioning even when the computer is picking up the media cable? I'm running windows xp on an hp pavilion zv5240us laptop, and am using an xc 1000 media cable.

Pc Wont Boot With Disk Drive Plugged In
Ok so recently ive been having issues with my optical (cd/dvd) drive. First it wouldn't boot with any disk in it, even if it wasn't a boot-able disk. I figured that out just by taking the disc out. Simple right?
Now my pc will boot past bios and display the post message but will not go into the operating system. I changed my boot order to do hard drive first and it still did the same thing. So i had a hunch and unplugged the power cable to my disk drive (ribbon cable is still attached) and it booted fine. Does this mean my disk drive is going out? Or is it maybe just that plug on my power supply?

Ok so recently ive been having issues with my optical (cd/dvd) drive. First it wouldn't boot with any disk in it, even if it wasn't a boot-able disk. I figured that out just by taking the disc out. Simple right?
Now my pc will boot past bios and display the post message but will not go into the operating system. I changed my boot order to do hard drive first and it still did the same thing. So i had a hunch and unplugged the power cable to my disk drive (ribbon cable is still attached) and it booted fine. Does this mean my disk drive is going out? Or is it maybe just that plug on my power supply?

Speakers / Headphone Plugged Into Same Audio Port
I've been trying to find a device that will let me plug both my headphones and speakers into my computer simultaneously and let me change which is playing sound at each point in time. I'm looking for an easier method to constantly manually switching between speakers and headphones.could anyone point me in the right direction?

My computer isn't recognizing my dell printer being plugged in? I had restored my computer a while back and since then the computer wont recognize my dell v305 printer as being plugged in. The weird thing is that it did not come with an install disk, and is supposed to install itself when plugged in. What do i do?

Is It Safe To Leave Power Cable Plugged Into External Drive ?
I was wondering if it is safe to leave the power cable plugged into an external drive? Does it keep the disk spinning? I usually just grab the usb cable when i need data and safely remove it after, but i'm not sure if it is ok to leave the power cable in or out.
