Error - Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device
Replies: 11 | Post Date: January 6th 2005 | User: Fulllife | Forums: devhardware.comI had a few problems getting pc to run (namely, i somehow lost the jumper for the bios pins on the motherboard. Because i had no jumper, it kept running in recovery mode. Took me a while to figure out, too). I don't know if it matters, but i popped out the battery as some instructions stated. I waited ten minutes and then placed the battery back, positive side up, which is what i remembered it being before i removed it. I only did that because i was at a loss at what else could be done to get the system running. Now, the system boots up fine and recognizes all devices, except. The problem is that after the post, an error pops up. "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device"
I had made a floppy that had the upgraded bios on it and had stuck it in the system before powering it up. I know the floppy works, because it worked on another system. I tried installing windows xp without the upgraded bios to see if it would work, and it did. I suppose that means that the cd drive works, but i have no way to tell if the floppy drive does. From what i can see in the [f2] bios setup utility, it is recognized. I don't see why the floppy drive wouldn't work. After all, it's just a floppy drive, with power & connection to mobo. The boot order is floppy, hard drive, cd-rom. And no matter what i do, the computer keeps throwing the error at me.

Message: Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device
I just installed a new antec 80mm blue ledfan and hooked up another fan that was aleady in there, but had never been hooked up for some reason. I thought everything was going fine, until i started up the computer and i got the message: "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key". Im not sure what is wrong, because i did not change anything else in the computer.

Message: Reboot & Select Boot Device Or Insert Boot Media
I built my first computer about 2 weeks ago but have noticed a problem. When i turn the computer on it shows the motherboard screen and stays there for approx 15-20 seconds. Then it goes into a black screen stating that i need to "reboot & select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. "
I am a bit confused on what this means. If i restart the computer while it shows the message it starts up with no problems. What can i do to have this message no appear as i power on my computer? Also during the shift from one screen to another, the screen blinks in green and other colors. What can this be? Can it be that i have my lcd tv connected to my computer with a dvi to hdmi cable?Besides these issues, everything seems to run great, no overheating at all.

System Boot / Reboot Issues
The system seems to run fine except for two issues i have been having: 1. When rebooting the system will shut down and then on restart it will make some carzy beeping and halt. This does not occur however when shutting down. 2. During boot after verifing th dmi pool it will try to boot from cdrom and then say it failed. However if i hit enter the system continues to boot fine. This problem even occurs when only the hard drive is selected in the bios to boot. I have search all over and found no information about these problems and i would greatly appreciate if someone could give me an idea of what to try.

Cpu Error On Every Reboot
Every reboot the motherboard detects a new cpu and prompt me to select f1 to enter setup or f2 to load defaults and continue. If i select f1, the bios will load, but if i save any changes in the bios, the computer will again detect new cpu and prompt. If i select f2, windows will boot. I never removed the cpu or heatsink, but i did move the computer. I have tried so far:
Update bios
Replace cmos battery
Clear cmos
My specs:
Asus p4p800-e deluxe (bios version 1010. 001)
Asus ct-479 p-m adaptor
Pentium m 725 1. 6 ghz
2x512mb crucial ballistix pc4000
Albatross 6800gt

Windows Boot Error - Unmountable Boot Volume
I have had my new system up and running for about 5 weeks now with now problems. So today i was on my computer and all of a sudden it freezes. Nothing is responding so i just reset the power. So i thought my grphix card might have overheated so i try rebooting again about several times with no luck. I try booting with safe mode but still freezes. After about 2 hrs i come back and nothing has changed. Any 1 know any solutions?

Inaccessible Boot Device
Where do i start?
I'm getting the fatal blue screen with the message "inaccessible boot device". I've tried everything. Cables are okay. Bios detects the hard disk. Seatools' diagnostic program detects the partitions. But i can't access it in any way to run a 'chkdsk' on it or to scan it for viruses. Hdd re-generator detects it and runs a scan for bad sectors for a while. But the system restarts or shuts down before completing the scan. I installed another hard disk so i could recover data and/or scan it for errors. But when my 'cursed' hard disk is connected to the system, nothing happens. No progress.

Usb Device Cause Computer To Freeze Or Not To Boot
I have recently been having issues left and right with my computer freezing or not given booting. I got it mainly fixed but i found out something strange. It would appear when i had my card reader connected and my wireless usb adapter connected (with the usb cord connected) the computer would either freeze while loading the os or not even boot at all. When the card reader was connected i had a 2gb sd card in it and for some reason the card wasn't being detected at all and vista wasn't even detecting the card reader till after maybe 5min. After plugging it in. Also, the other strange thing is when i had my usb wireless adapter plugged in with the usb cord the computer wouldn't even boot or it would freeze like above. When i finally just connected the wireless adapter by itself windows loaded fine with no freeze/lock ups (and yes, i don't have the card reader connected right now). Idk but i'd hate to say this but would it be a psu issue? I was playing l4d and killing floor fine last night with my xfx 4850 oc'ed. What is going on here? Side note: has the latest ati drivers been causing anybody any issues lately? Like lock ups or anything? At first though i thought it was the oc'ing from catalyst causing the issue but i guess it wasn't.

Can't Find Boot Device - Mbr Is Bad On C
I just added a new slave drive to my old computer yesterday. The drive has xp on it, i just haven't formatted it yet. After i plugged in in using cs i rebooted and for some reason my computer booted from that drive, which is now called e:. My master drive is still there and looks to be fine. I went into bios and changed my boot options and hdd options so that it would boot my c: drive first. Now when it goes to boot the c: drive it gives me an error saying that their is nothing to boot. If i have my cd drive plugged in it tries to boot that but says nothing is there. So anyway, for some reason i think my mbr is bad on my c:. I really don't want to format or anything. What would be the best way to fix this issue? I have the ultimate boot cd, should i just pop in xp and fix the mbr? Last time i had this issue i think i ended up reinstalling xp which was a pain.

No Bootable Device Insert Boot Disk And Press Any Key
When booting windows vista ultimate using boot camp, i get a black screen with the message "no bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key". Also, my keyboard does not respond and the disk does not eject unless i hold the mouse buttons down when rebooting. Can anyone help me and how i can restore my computer back to the original configuration (or the new os x 10. 5 leopard) so it will work properly? Thanks in advance for any help. This is a very serious problem and is preventing me from accessing my os x.

No Bootable Device Insert Boot Disk Press Any Key Hp
The day before yesterday, i turned off the pc using windows vista menu > shut down. When i turned it on, after the hp logo, it shows a black screen with the following error: no bootable device - insert a boot disk and press any key. I already tried to load bios setup defauts, did memory and primary hard disk self tests (they were ok), changed the boot order (f10), but the error message persists. I did the reset procedure, which i unplugged the battery and the ac charger and keep the power button pressed for 6 seconds, but it didn't worked either. I tried the (f11) recovery mode, but the error message persists (i do not have the recovery discs to boot from the disc). I tried to boot from windows xp disc but it stays forever on the press any key to start from the cd message. I tried to boot it using another os cd (ubuntu) but it asks to update the bios. I do not have vista dvd (it did not come with the pc). What else can be done? How can i solve this problem?

Insert Media In Selected Boot Device And Press A Key
In brief i used killdisk to wipe my hard drive which worked fine its been wiped clean. (My laptop does not have a floppy drive)
Now when i load my laptop up it comes up in a dos kind of environment and displays the following:
"Intel undi, pxe-2. 0 (build 082)
Copyright (c) 1997-2000 intel corporation
Sis900 pxe bootrom v1. 09 hook int19
Cliet max addr: 00 03 0d 28 fc 91 guid: 00020003-0004-0005-0006-000700080009
Pxe-e51: no dhcp or proxydhcp offers were received. Pxe m0f: exiting intel pxe rom
Reboot and select proper boot device
Or insert media in selected boot device and press a key"
Again i have been in then bios settings and changed the priority to load the cd 1st, i also presume by device they are referring to my cd drive. I tried to put fdisk on and format but i now think i may of put them onto cd wrong. Anybody heard of how to get out of this then tell me, i am on a desktop at the minute and yes i can put files onto cd if needed but only program i have managed to load so far from reboot via cd is killdisk.

Error: This Device Could Not Start ( Code 10 )
I have 895mb of ram on my system now, but i started with 1gb? Anyways, i kept getting blue screens and they told me to use a new video adapter. I got a new video card and it reccomends 1gb of ram. It has a vga adapter that you have to connect your monitor to for it to work. I went into device manager and it said "this device could not start (code 10). " Then after some lagg, the computer froze. Is this a ram problem? And if it is, can i just buy one stick of 2gb ram instead of adding 1gb to the current 895mb? I have windows vista home basic 32-bit. Int pent 4 proc. 3. 0ghz. I went into system setup when it booted, and changed the primary video card to pci-e, which is what the new video card runs on. The video card is the radeon hd 3650 1gb ddr2. This is like my 3rd topic, i know. Bare with me, i keep running into like 2 different problems every day.

I have had my diamondmax 10 200gb sata for about a year now and its been a very good buy. However recently it stoopped working and i get an i/o device error message when i try to open it. The computer also runs slow and i have had to disable the device to continue using it. I cannot scan the disk for errors or defrag it or anything really. I have a lot of important data on there and cant afford to spend ££££ getting it back. Does anyone know what this error is and how to fix it? If not what is the best software to use to recovery the data.

Usb Pen Drive I/o Device Error
I've had an iomega 256mb pen drive for about 18 months now, and whenever i try to access it in my computer it says: the request could not be performed because of an i/o device error. I can't format the drive either. This happens on all of the 3 computers i've tried it on. I'm not worried about getting the data on it back, i've got backups of it. Anyone got any ideas on how to fix it?

Error: Unable To Enumerate Usb Device On Port 6
I recently bought two ps/2 to usb converter adaptors from ebay, and they're not working with our keyboard (logitech access keyboard), mouse (old logitech ball mouse with only two buttons), or the laptop (toshiba with 512mb ram, about 2ghz speed, two usb ports). The laptop is running windows xp pro. We've tried scanning for new hardware, and we tried booting the computer with both plugged in. Neither responds at all. The only signs of life are the num lock and function lock lights on the keyboard (they toggle like they're supposed to. But the caps lock and scroll lock do not). Any ideas to get these working?
I've also tried them with my 3 year old acer laptop (1gb ram, about 2ghz cpu, more than enough usb ports). This one's running ubuntu 9. 04. Similar (non)results. But with the keyboard plugged in, if i mash the keys, every so often xp will give a error message (printed to the first virtual terminal) like this:
[33237. 360137] hub 1-0:1. 0: unable to enumerate usb device on port 6
The digits in the square brackets change every time. And sometimes it says this:-
[Numbers. Numbers] hub 1-0:1. 0: connect-debounce failed, port 6 disabled
But i really only bought these to work with the windows xp laptop.

A Parity Error Was Detected On Device Scsi Nvgts
What does that mean, and why do i keep getting it every hour in my eventlog? I've had it goin for quite a while according to my event viewer. I know that most nv* files are usually for nvidia stuff, so i updated my vid card drivers, but it still does it every hour.

Usb Flash Crashes With Device Not Recognized Error
My trusty 8gb trancend pico keychain usb drive died today as i was backing it up, oh the irony. I didn't loose anything i don't have stashed in other places, but it i am wondering if i can try and grab whatever is there and not corrupt with some software? Most of the free-ware and trial stuff i have tried doesn't work unless the drive is assigned a drive letter, but it's not recognized by either of my systems now, is this a wasted effort or is there something free that will mount it and get what is readable?

The Driver Detected A Controller Error On Device Scsi Adpu3201
Server 2003 has the on-board dell perc 5/i for hard-drives. An add-in adaptec u320 scsi pci-x card. Only a quantum lto 2 tape drive is hooked up to the adaptec. This error started popping up and is logged every day. The last 2 people that administered this server are no longer around. I'm not exactly sure when the tape drive was installed. The problem is, i cannot roll back the driver, because no previous driver exists. I also downloaded the latest driver from quantum, which is the same exact one. If i disable the port with the tape drive, the error doesn't seem to appear.could this be caused if the scsi isn't terminated? This is an off-site server, but not currently doing any backups so it's not a hugely important issue, but something i would like to get cleared up.

Invalid Boot Diskette Error
I have an old dell 4100 computer with windows xp installed. When my dad reset the power in my house yesterday, my computer brought me to the blue dell start up screen ad then to a black screen with the infamous error message: (paraphrased) "invalid boot diskette. Insert valid boot diskette in a:". I've seen several topics about this online but none of them were useful because i couldn't understand all the computer lingo. I also don't have the disk used to install windows, or any disks for the computer, for that matter. I checked bios, which recognized my hard drive (so i know it's not fried) but it still didn't work when i set it to boot from the hard drive first. Does anyone have a simple solution to this problem i can use on limited resources and knowledge of computers? I have my computer loaded with hundreds of dollars worth of music i would hate to lose, so i can't do anything that would wipe the memory (unless there's a way to back up my hard drive without buying anything or confusing me). This happened once before, but resolved itself after one night. This time the problem seems much more persistent.

Error: Unmountable Boot Partition - Usb 2.0 Hd
I backed up windows to a usb 2. 0 drive and am trying to boot up from it. Is this even possible? Because i keep getting an "unmountable boot partition" error.

Hdd Not Found On Boot = Disk Error
I recently received a western digital 160gb, as a replacement for a broken western digital 120gb, from western digital. However on boot the hdd is sometimes not found and instead a little clicking noise can be heard, which in turn leads to the primary slave not being found and then a disk error. Usually if i simply turn it off then back on again, then it works fine however sometimes i have to do this multiple times, sometimes i have to turn it off and leave it for a few minutes and sometimes i have to open the case and push all the cables into the back of the hdd and dvdrw a bit more. To me the cables don't feel as though they've come loose and so really this is an exercise of ritual rather than anything constructive, yet it seems to do the job. Once the hdd is recognised the pc works fine and dandy but i'd like to avoid this failure as it is happening more and more. Is this an issue with the cpu, data cables, power cables, hdd, dvdrw, ram?
My system is an asus pundit w/ intel 2. 8ghz, dual 512mb ram, western digital 160gb, sony 8x dvdrw.

Will A Computer Boot From A Usb / Usb 2.0 Device?
Will a computer boot from a usb/usb 2. 0 device? Ex. Cd-rom, how does that detect in the bios? What bios settings must be made to enable that. The reason i ask is i was thinking about building a comp with no internal optical drives. I wanted to hide the box out of site while the *-rom and *-rw drive are easily accessible on my desk top.

Keyboard With Proper Enter Key
I've read through the previous thread, but i'm not interested in keyboards that lack a 'proper' enter key (why do i see some pics with and without full size key anyway?). It would be nice not essential for usb ports. Illumination that is adjustable is preferable. I also have my eye on the saitek eclipse 3, but obviously it seems that the enter key is half size. Any ideas or am i completely wrong about the enter key size issue?

A Proper Vacuum Cleaner For Pc's
Doing a bunch of field work on pc's these days. Dust builds up. I'm hoping to hear from people that have discovered a field capable, significant draw vacuum cleaner for use on pc's.

Asus A8n-e Boot Problem (beep Error Code)
I've been running xp on a asus a8n-e motherboard for a good while without any problems. The other day i replaced my hiper type r 580w psu with a corsair hx 520w, and now the pc won't boot and beeps 1 long followed by 3 short. I've stripped it down to bare essentials (motherboard, vc, memory and cpu) but i get the same problem. The problem also persist when i reconnect the hiper psu. 1. Reseating everything. 2. Using any possible combination of memory stick(s) and slots. 3. Resetting the cmos. The rest of the pc is as per sig, with the exception for vista which will be installed when (if!?) I can sort this.

Windows 2000 Not Recognizing Proper Hd Size
My previous wd hd failed, and got a replacement from dell today, a 250 gb one. Even though my bios is quite happy to acknowledge that it's 250, my windows 2k isn't, nor is the fdisk from my diagnostics boot cd or my partition magic. They all claim it's 127 gb, and as such i can only create a 127 gb partition of of it. Does anyone know about this kind of problem or even a solution to it?
