Computer Randomly Reboots - Monitors Blackout

My computer randomly reboots once or twice a day. Sometimes twice in a row and that is that, but i noticed something strange that it only happens when i am browsing the web regardless of the browser that i am using. Now this could be complete coincidence, but it never happens when i am gaming as of yet. I also ran prime 95 and stressed tested my system for a solid hour with no reboots at all. I have left my system on for days and my system temps were all completely normal until while browsing the web for a few hours after clicking a link; bam reboot. I also went into system properties in my computer and turned off "automatically restart" just to see if there could be a blue screen, but nope. My monitors black out as if somebody other than myself went and hit the reset button on my case. It reports no other error, but that. I just reformatted and hopefully i will be stable, but i doubt it. Worries me that it only happens when i am browsing the web. Any advice or suggestions would be most appreciated.

System Reboots For No Reason

I dunno know why my system reboots for no reason. I have installed vista as soon as i am done with assembling and it run fine but reboots in between and gives a message stating that it recovered from a serious error, so i formatted the hdd and installed it again and tried but no luck it would do the same, so this time i installed winxp in another partition and installed everything all drivers but my system shutdown instead of rebooting so i thought the processor got too hot (i havent overcloked the cpu) and shutdown so i waited and rebooted again and left it to see what happens by morning it again rebooted. One more problem that i faced earlier was instead of 512mb pny geforce 7600gs i got ati radeon x1300 512mb graphics card but it wouldnt display anything when i first booted so i changed the graphics card to pny geforce and it worked. I dunno whether the motherboard chipset has anything to do with the gpu since the motherboard chipset is nvidia and my graphjics card is nvidia too and it works. But it didnt work with ati graphics card, if thats shouldnt be the case then there is some problem with graphics card or motherboard. Since i already replace graphics card, i am exchanging the cpu as well as mobo for new ones and will try again if things repeat the same i dont even know what to change more.coz i believe hdd has nothing to do with this pbm or even dvd burner.

System Reboots / Shuts Down Unexpectedly

I recently build a new computer and i have been getting this problem. Every single time i use the computer, the system either reboots itself or powers off suddenly. I have already checked the device manager and it shows that no devices are in conflict. I have also left the system turned on thru the night without any problems, until i woke up and started surfing the net, then the same thing happens again, the system just turns off by itself. I have reinstalled the xp operating systems and i still get the same problem. Can anyone guide me on where to start troubleshooting?

System Reboots When Install Windows Without Error Message

Assembling a rig for a friend; after troubleshooting various hardware problems, got it to correctly display video and recognize all the hardware. My trouble starts when i try to install windows. I boot the disc, go to install it (the point where it says 'press enter to continue' right before it checks the drives and whatnot), press enter, and without error message the system reboots. I have tried installing sata drivers by pressing f6 and not; both circumstances lead to a reboot.computer specifications:

Hard Drive, Not System, Randomly Restarting

I recently noticed that one (maybe 2) of my hard drives power off and power on a few seconds later. I have a dual boot system and it seems that the boot disk w/ xp is the one with the issue. I will be using vista and i will hear a drive power down and then restart/spin-up again - similar to the sound when the whole system powers down and powers on, respectively. This happens regardless of load and seems to happen randomly.

Error: System Failed Cpu Test - Computer Randomly Shuts Down

Basically, my computer randomly shuts down. Not shuts down through windows, just plain shuts off. Now its been suggested that this is either the power supply or the cpu fan, but i don't know which and really have no idea of that out. I have an antec 350w power supply on an asus p4c800 deluxe and a pentium 4. I am also getting an error message sometimes when i start up (sometimes after the random shutdown, sometimes not) that the "system failed cpu test, " but again i have no idea how to correct this. This isn't as bad because i just try again after that message and the computer boots up fine.

Pc Reboots

So i got my new power supply. 550w corsair. I spent all night cleaning out my pc and getting everything back into it. I installed windows, grabbed all my data off of my hd, and then reinstaled windows on to the hard drive that i had been using after a clean reformat. I proceeded to install my other hdd so i'd be running 2 hard drives in non raid mode. One for media and one for programs and such. Well i seem to be having random reboots. It did it while i was reformatting the smaller hd, then it did it again while i was trying to run windows update. It was in the middle of updating. Boom shuts off. After it rebooted. It did it almost immidately. These arent total hangs, the thing just reboots. I'm thinking motherboard. If it is. It would almost make sense to get a new system but that will be more expensive than getting a new mobo, even if it is 939. Sound like a mobo problem?

Random Reboots

I'm running an amd athlon xp 2500 with 512 ddr ram, a radeon 9600 pro, sound blaster audigy 2 platinum plus front panel, 2 dvd drives, a tv tuner and one hard drive and my computer is randomly rebooting. My drivers are all up-to-date. I've run up-to-date virus and spyware scans with them finding nothing. I've also run memtest to check for ram errors but it hasn't found any. I've heard that this could be cause by a bad power supply but it looks like my power supply voltages are alright. The odd thing about this is that the random rebooting used to happen when i had my old geforce 4 in which i replaced with the radeon. It continued to happen and then my hard drive crashed, so that got replaced and it still happens. Whenever it reboots it says that it might've been cause by a graphic driver problem but i don't understand why it would happen with my geforce 4 and then with my radeon 9600 and especially since i have all my up-to-date drivers. My case also isn't overheating either. My cpu is at 49c/120f and my system is at 39c/102f. Programs also just randomly crash too. And for some odd reason i can't play most video games cause they end up crashing.

Pc Reboots Contstantly

I built my college housemate a pc, an asus a7n8x with a athlon xp processor and a stick of corsair xms 512 mb ram. This was about a year ago. Pc ran great until 1 day he gets mad at his roomates girlfriend, throws a full 1 gallon jug of water (closed) at his desk where his pc is. It was turned on and when the jug hit the jostle *** up his hard drives and both failed instantly. He said he saw a spark which i assumed was the hd's. No water escaped the jug luckily. We replaced the hd's and everything seemed fine. Fast forward to now and he brings his pc to me saying it reboots all the time on its own and he can't even get xp reinstalled. I take a look at it, test the ram using memtest and the like. I get his pc to not reboot only when i have the bios set the fsb to 100mhz which i think means 200 mhz. I had the same setup and to get 333mhz performance you had to have it set to 166mhz. Anyway the system runs now but at like half the speed. Only things i can think of, is the mb has failed over time since the "incident", the processor is somehow bad, or the power supply has started sending out faulty voltages (which i haven't checked) which is making the system unstable at a normal fsb setting.

Reboots On Games

I’m using windows xp and the computer seems fine while running programs or surfing the net. But as soon as i start a game and play for a while the game freezes and the computer reboots. I’ve tried changing the video drivers, changing the mobo drivers, changing the windows, changing the directx, but nothing helped. So i thought that the problem is a hardware one. I replaced the mobo, cpu, ram and the hdds, again nothing changed so i thought that the problem is with the video card, so i changed tree different graphic adapters but still nothing changed. All the voltages and temps are ok, all testing software results are ok. I’ve also tried downclocking the cpu, vga and ram which helped but not entirely it just delayed the rebooting. I do not know what to do else, if anyone can help me i would greatly appreciate it. Currently i’m using: cpu athlon64 4200+ x2, mb asus m2n- sli delux, 2x 1gb apacer ddr667, vga msi nx7600 gs, hdd maxtor 250gb, psu codegen 500w.

Comp Just Reboots

I've had this computer for 3+ years . Built it myself. 2 days ago, it would not load windows (2000). In the dos screen where it says starting windows there's a progress indicator bar. When it reached 95% it would reset the computer. I used my w2k cd to boot from and ran a repair on it. It worked and windows restarted correctly. I used it for a few hours and started getting application errors which would close them . Etc. It was late, so i turned it off. This am . Same behavior as before. However, now i can't even boot from the cd nor the hd. I even tried booting from the floppies i had made previously. Same thing . As soon as it prints starting windows in the grey bar at the bottom of the screen in the windows setup after having loaded all the drivers, it resets. Is my hd fried? It seems to happen at the same spot each time and now i can't even re-install? (I think the hd is fried, but i've never heard of a slow death like this).

Computer Reboots On Its Own

I just recently had my harddrive upgraded and now everyonce in awhile for no reason, my computer reboots on its own. I do not know if this is a problem with my main unit or if the power strip i am using could be causing this. I do not know alot of computer literature, so if you respond in a manner i do not understand, i will possibly ask for an elaboration. Sorry if i have to do that. My husband knows nothing about computers so everything i know i learn myself or though my dad. Thanks for your help. I also would like to know why my computer will no longer shut down on its own. I have to manually shut down which i did not have to do before either. This may need to be in a different thread. Sorry if it does, just let me know.

Sporadic Reboots

Got an amd 64 bit 3500+ system for my son. Loaded it with xp pro sp2 and all the updates. Has a very large heatsink and averages about 32 to 35*c, so not overheating. Runs beautifully. Problem: while playing an online game, such as at pogo or something, it will shut right down and reboot. Even surfing ebay can trigger it. Sometimes it takes a couple of hours and sometimes not. I've been through the entire bios and disabled the overheat shut down and everything else i can think of that would cause this. Any ideas?

Constant Reboots

I am having trouble fixing a friend's computer that reboots constantly. I have replaced the power supply and also replaced the cpu cooler and im quite sure that the problem now lies with the video drivers, but i am not sure how to fix it. Before i replaced the 300watt hipro with the powmax, the system would boot maybe 1 out of 10 times. Now it boots but randomly reboots at unexpected times.

Automatic / Random Reboots

Yesterday i played nhl 2003, the first game i played went fine, but the system rebooted itself during the second one, i left it like that. Later on, i installed the ud agent, and the system rebooted itself again while the agent was running, so i uninstalled it. Today, i decided to play a little hockey game, but the system rebooted itself again. So, thinking it was os related, i decided to delete both partitions, but wanted to back up some files on cds so i burned one cd, all went fine, but the system rebooted 3 times while burning the 2nd cd, scrapping 3 cds in the process. I deleted both partitions and recreated them. I then procedeed with an xp pro install from scratch. I formatted the c: to ntfs using the cd, all went fine. Then setup copied files, all went fine. But the system rebooted itself while installing devices (after setting up the language etc) so i deleted the partitions etc, again. It rebooted again but while copying the setup files. I don't believe it is software related because those reboots happened when absolutely nothing, zip, none was on he hdd. This is odd because it reboots at random times. At one time, during the process of installation, i heard beeps from the board telling me the temperature has hit the boundary i set in the bios. But the temperature has never hit the "shut down temp", so i believe this is not a heat problem. I am using the stock heatsink/fan that came with the retail cpu. I have no case fans whatsoever, only the one integrated to my ps.

Random Reboots With Bsod

This problem started about a month ago i'd say. First off, my system is a dual-boot environment, with my vista partition on my 2 wd raptor drives in a raid0 array on my nvraid controller. My xp partition is on my primary ide driver, and the secondary is a storage drive. I would be playing a game (r6 vegas on vista x64) on a lan with my friend and my computer would randomly reboot. This then turned into a problem where it would do it as soon as i boot into windows vista at all, unless it was in safe mode. After doing multiple reinstalls on the os, and multiple driver updates, vista was finally able to run without problems. Or so i thought. When i try to have vista rate my computer performance, it locks up and sometimes reboots when it gets like, a quarter of the way done. It also crashes when i launch a map in r6. And, even more frustrating, my xp partition (which seemed to be working fine during all this) now crashes when i start r6 on it. I tried running some stress tests today to troubleshoot it. All of these would run fine and pass on their own, a couple would run together (cpu and fpu i remember being one, but memory and storage disks were definitely not able to run together). When i try running 3 or more, i get the same thing. My computer makes this clicking sounds, then i can hear this little whirl sound (assuming its my harddrives) start up right after it does, and it repeats that for a while. Sometimes i get a bsod, with "irql_not_equal_or_less" or something along those lines. Needless to say, i've tried disabling the ide drives (unplugging them and disabling the ide controller in the bios) when i'm trying to get vista to run on my sata. And i've disabled my sata when i try to get xp working on my ide.

Computer Reboots Itself Every 10 Seconds

Whenever i start my computer , after 5-10 seconds it just dies and shuts down. Then 5-10 secs later it reboots by itself, works for 5-10 secs before dying again. Then it reboots itself 10 secs later. I checked inside the antec p182 once and saw that just before it dies, the computer tries to get the cpu-fan going. But it moves an inch and then stops - 1 or 2 seconds later the computer shuts down.could it be my corsair 520w that is malfunctioning? It just feels really bad to finally have a new system and then this happens. I'd really appreciate any help i can get in order to fix this as soon as possible.

Spontaneous Computer Reboots

This is baffling me to no end. My computer keeps rebooting, but its behavior is rather unusual. It will work fine for a month or two, and then one day it reboots 5 times. Today is no different. It rebooted itself 3 times already, yet everything’s been working flawlessly for the past few months. Actually, it hasn’t rebooted since may if i recall correctly. Nod32 finds nothing. Spybot s&d and adaware are up to date as well. Memtest, hd diagnostics didn’t come up with anything suspicious. So what else?

I was thinking that perhaps the room temperature might have something to do with it. My room is notorious for high temperatures, with 80-85f being the usual temp here. The rest of the house is usually in the mid 70’s no clue what is causing it, but it sucks. The common factors for the reboots are running winamp, utorrent, photoshop, and firefox. The four are always on when it happens. Also when it reboots, i hear the music stutter for about 3 seconds before the screen goes black. So, does anyone have any ideas what to do with this? Anything will do.

Format Hd Everytime The Pc Reboots

As the topic says, my question is this. How is this possible and how it is done. Everytime you shut down the pc on a network/lan the c drive is supposedly formated and everything in it is lost. Atleast thats what my schools network administrators claim. They say that we should backup any data that we save on the c try bcuz after the pc restarts everything that was saved on the c drive will no longer b there. So anyone know how they do this or they just trying to make us save our stuff on our floopies lol.

Computer Reboots When Burning

Lately when i try to burn a cd my system simply reboots itself without a word of warning. This happens in various programs, including the winxp shell integrated software and nero, so i don’t think it’s a software problem as such. However, i don’t think it’s the burner as when i erase a cdrw in the drive it works a charm, but when i try to write back to it, it goes again! The burner is a toshiba sd-r1002 dvd/cdrw combi drive that has been working perfectly until recently. But now it does this!

Mysterious Random Reboots

My first seagate barracuda went to crap and i had to get a replacement. But now, i'm getting mysterious random reboots. I unchecked "automatic restart" in startup and recovery to get a bsod thinking it was windows, but i don't get one when it reboots. What's funny is, it'll work all day sometimes with no reboot, and then it will when i'm doing something as simple as posting on a forum. I ruled out my ram and hdd. So i was wondering if that's my psu acting up? It's old, like 5 or so years i think, just a temporary hand-me-down until i purchase a new one. But, it's just ticking me off because i can't use my computer and i'm hogging up my boyfriend's computer ( i really can't complain though lol, it's real nice. )

I don't know if it could possibly be my motherboard. Everything is up to date with it and i don't think the computer would not make it to windows if that was messed up. I just want to rule out what is wrong. I have to get new motherboard and psu anyways, but i want to see what i have to get first. And plus, it's driving me nuts!

Windows Reboots During Loading

I took the sata hdd out of my parents pc and attached it to mine (i wanted to see the boot time difference between xp and vista). Started my pc with my parents hdd as priority. It got to the xp loading bar and then after afew complete bars it came up with an error window asking me to activate xp. My mouse and keyboard were turned off so i just switched the pc off by the on button. This kinda scared me and i wanted to check if it worked at all. So i put i back in my parents pc and booted. Now it gets part way through the loading bar and just restarts. It keeps doing this. Anyone got any ideas why?
