Transfer Speed On Usb Is Very Slow - Seagate 160 Gb Hd

I am having couple of problems with my trasnfer speed. I just bought a new enclosure case for my seagate 160gb hd. I am finding the transfer speed is very slow compared to anthoer enclosure case i have containing 20gb hd. My pc has usb 2. 0. On my old case, i get a speed of about 23 mb/sec majority of times. My new case is only giving me about 15 mb/sec. What can i do and how do i make it faster? I even exchanged the two hd to see if it is the hd that is causing it to be slow, but i found out it is the enclourse case. When i put the 160gb hd in the old case, it transfers at 23 mb/sec.

Very Slow Usb Transfer / Detection

I have asus m3n78-vm mobo and it has some problems in it. I think my usb ports are not running as fast as they can. When starting windows it takes ages to detect my external hdd , buffalo drivestation 500gb usb 2, and transferring like 300 mb file from internal hdd to that external is pain in the ass slow. Transferring from external to internal it has no problems. Files fly from buffalo to my internal sata hdd. But if i try to move file from that internal hdd to external buffalo, windows says it takes about 10 minutes to transfer one 300 mb file and it does also take that long, so what a heck? Im confused. I checked bios and all usb 2 features are on in bios. I also had some weird io shutdown problems. Anyone has any solutions to this? My buffalo also has some turbousb feature but dunno if it works. Oh and i use 32 bit xp pro with sp3 in it. Btw my old mobo dfi lanpary nf3 ultra-d did not have this problem with my external hdds. I have also tried all usb ports, and its the same problem.

Hdd Transfer Speed Over Usb

I keep on wondering how come my hard drives have such a low transfer speed with usb. I have a mybook and a usb docking station. Both of them cannot transfer past than 20mbs. When i switch back to sata, i get at least 3 times the transfer speed (more for my faster drives). Sata is faster than usb, i can understand that. But usb 2. 0's rated transfer rate is 60mbs, what exactly is throttling the speed?

Best Way To Get Max File Transfer Speed (network, Usb, Etc)

I use a laptop for my main rig (hp dv8300), and i am setting up a nas in the near future and i'm trying to come up with the best way i can get the most speed to dump data to it. It's a 945gm express chipset. I have usb 2. 0, firewire of some flavor (i can't figure out which one it is), pci card slot, express/54 card slot, 100mb nic, intel something b/g mini pci nic. Ideally i would want to get a 1000mbps nic, but since my nic is onboard i can't really swap it out. A 1000mbps usb 2. 0 nic would still limit me to the 300mbps speed of usb 2. 0. 132 mbps for express card. Right now my best idea is just to get a wirless-n mimo mini pci nic and swap it in. Unless someone has a better idea.

I have a usb2 1gb thumbdrive. I have 4 usb2. 0 ports on the back of my computer and 2 usb1. 1 ports on the front of my computer. When i plug my thumbdrive into the front or back i get the same transfer rate. Now i'm sure that's not suppose to happen. In my device manager i have, under universal serial bus controllers, intel(r) 82801eb usb universal host controller, have 4 of those, then i have one of, intel(r) 82801eb usb2 enchanced host controller. Usb Flash Drive Speed Is Very Slow

I need a larger usb flash drive and was wondering what people would suggest. I have a 4gb drive now, but need something bigger. I have noticed that the transfer rate to my drive is very slow and was wondering if that has to do with the usb technology or because of my drive. I'd like one that transfers as fast as possible, but if they all transfer at the same speed, then so be it.

Seagate / Maxtor Drives Fitted With Speed-limiting Jumper At The Factory ?

I had a glitch yesterday with some drives connected to a 3ware 9500s sata controller. I contacted 3ware support & they advised me that:

In order for sata ii drives to remain stable on the 9500s controllers they do need to be set to the sata i link speed. Please make sure all these maxtor drives have a jumper placed on the j50 jumper. This will force the drives down to the sata i link speed. So i went on the manufacturers' websites for all the drives in this system, found out how to do this for each drive, and then scrabbled around for enough jumpers. Two of the drives are very similar-looking 500gb drives, one maxtor, the other seagate, and i was amazed to find they both already had the jumper fitted! I am quite sure that i never fitted them, because i never even knew about this jumper before today. Is it really possible that seagate / maxtor are fitting the speed-limitation jumpers at the factory? Read more at the forum.

Epson Scanner Scanning Speed Is Slow

I recently purchased the captioned scanner. I ran the supplied software "epson scan" scanning text documents. However i found that the scanning speed is quite slow, taking at least 15 sec to scan a a4 text document, without graphic, with a resolution at 150dpi. This speed is same as my old alfa scan bought at least more than 6 years. Is there any solution to speed up the scanning speed?Besides it scans twice on "full auto mode" excluding preview. Is it normal?

Slow Connection Speed With Wireless Network

Okay so i have a brand new dell laptop with the nicest wireless-n capable card you can buy and with all of the drivers up to date, i also have a netgear wireless-n capable router with all of its firmware up to date. Here is the problem, i can only get a max of 58 mbps, even though i have the router set to "up to 300 mbps" and i am close to the router with no interference. I have high speed cable internet from cox. When i check the status of my network, it only goes to 58 mbsp max, but sits around 26mbps and fluctuates a good amount in between.

Usb Message: Hi-speed Device Plugged Into A Not Hi-speed Port

I'm rebuilding my system, and have two pci cards with firewire and usb ports. I remember before the rebuild i plugged them in and they worked. That was nice. Now, i installed them one at a time. The first one prompted no notifications, but when i plugged a device into it it warned me that it was a hi-speed device plugged into a not hi-speed port. I installed the second one, and it prompted the new hardware wizard, asking for drivers, but said it couldn't find them although i had dsl connected. The cards did not come with any disks and there was no problem getting them to work before.

1.5tb Seagate Freeagent External Usb Disassembly

I went and snagged this external 1. 5tb seagate freeagent for $107 after spotting it for this much after a promotion code at newegg on the hot deals section. I wanted a 1. 5tb drive, but i did not want it to be external, especially usb only. With no guides for disassembling this model online, i read the ones for similar models and went from there. You need a hard plastic card, like an expired credit card if you want to take this apart without damaging it. There is no sticker seal, so seagate won't know you voided the warranty. Wedge your fingernail in between the gray plastic layer and the white plastic layer here:

http://img293. Imageshack. Us/img293/4140/31ry39mmajlsl500aa280. Th.jpg

Then wiggle and move the card towards the back of the unit(where the plugs are). You want to only have a corner of the plastic card wedged in the unit. This will help press the plastic clips in and out of the way as you move it towards the back. Do this until you get all the way around the card at the exact opposite side and spot that you started. Then you can either just pop it open or wedge the card in on the front part to press the tabs in there to get it off. Once you get the cover off, take the three tiny screws out that are located by the power jack and usb jack. Then take off three of the rubber bumpers and the screws under them. The fourth rubber bumper is hard to get to and is not needed to remove the thin metal shell. Now you should be able to take off the shell and take out the drive. Please note: only certain drives will work in this because of how the pcb of the sata to usb was cut/designed. I had to dremel out a piece of the 250gb maxtor i wanted to put in the external case in order to make it fit nicely for a good connection. You will probably not have to do this with extra seagate drives you have around. Here is a pic showing what i removed with my dremel. http://img5. Imageshack. Us/img5/8740/2708maxtor250gbsatahdd. Th.jpg

After you replace the 1. 5tb disk, you just have to power on the unit, plug in the usb, and then nothing. It doesn't work!? Nope! Not so fast though. All you have to do is go to control panel>administrative tools>computer management>storage>disk management(local) then scroll down on the bottom until you see the drive there. Right click and reactivate the drive. Now it will show up in your my computer and work fine. I hope this helped anyone who wanted to do this.

Can't Do Anything Else When Transfer A Large File Using Usb

So i've been running x64 for the better part of a year now on the rig in my specs. Within the last 3 months or so if i transfer a large file to any one of my various brand external hard drives i can't really do anything else on my computer, everything kinda just slows down and the usb transfer takes precedence. The strange part is my cpu usage is only like 5-15% on a single core while this is going on. I know i should most likely nuke my os install and start over but i'm curious as to what caused this. In my many years of pc tech support i have not ran into this particular issue. I have seen similar caused from crappy via usb controllers but not this exact problem. Ideas?

Usb Transfer Files Won't Read

Everytime i transfer files to my usb like ms word document, pictures, and music. The file won't read! Why is this happening? For instance, if i try to open the picture i saved, all i got is a "mini x" and if i try to play music it won't play either. Next, i created folders with some documents inside it. If i try to open that folder, there is no file displayed. At first, i thought it was a bunch of hidden files. So i tried to change the settings to make invisible files visible. No luck. My files are nowhere to be found! If i try to delete it, i got an error message " cannot delete file. "

Note: i did error checking and also tried reformatting it. Unfortunately, its still not working. It still has a problem with reading/opening files. Worse, some of my files are freaking' hidden( despite making invisible folders visible)

Some additional info about the usb i'm using. 1gb kingston
Type:removable disk
Filesystem: fat32

Usb Drive Wont Work After Unplugging It During File Transfer

I gave this usb flash drive to a friend as a gift http://www.Supertalent.com/products/stt_usb_detail.php

Its the 8gb pico usb drive, ive had one for over a year and ive had no problems but my friends wont work after he told me he accidentally unplugged it during a file transfer on his mac. If i plug it in to a mac it wont see the drive, not even the disk utility. If it plug it in to a vista machine, it gets seen but it says "unknown device" and it wont show up under disk management either. Is there any possible way to fix it? This is a first for me since i thought you could not damage usb drives if you unplugged them during a file transfer (except for normal data corruption). Any ideas?

Slow Format Time For Usb Flash Drives

Ever since i started using vista, one of the big annoyances i've had is the really slow format time for usb flash drives, usb / firewire connected hard drives and flash cards (sd cards, memory sticks, compact flash cards in respective usb card readers). I've been experiencing this on three different pc's running different versions of vista. Pc1 is running vista business w/ sp1. It's a dell w/ a q6600, 2gb of ram and a 320gb sata hard drive. Pc2 is running vista home premium w/ sp1. Has an asus a8n-sli deluxe, athlon 3500+, 2gb of ram and a 120gb sata hard drive. Pc3 is running vista ultimate x64 w/ sp1. Asus p5q-em, q6600, 8gb of ram, 300gb velociraptor + 150gb raptor. I've tried formatting usb flash drives, usb / firewire connected hard drives and flash cards (in usb card readers) on all three pcs. Tried on pc1 and pc2 before and after sp1 was installed and on the 3rd computer only after sp1 was installed. In all cases, formatting these devices takes forever. With pc2 and 3 running windows xp, formatting these devices was extremely fast. In all cases, i did not choose the quick format. Anyone know of a fix for this?
