If Disconnect Laptop Screen, Will External Screen Still Work ?
Replies: 4 | Post Date: 1 month ago | User: Jesse | Forums: answers.yahoo.comIf i disconnect my laptop's screen, will an external screen still work? I have an acer aspire5315 laptop. What i am doing is i am putting it into a custom case that will not fit the built-on screen. The laptop does have a vga output (so i can connect it to another monitor, or hdtv. ) So, if i disconnect the laptop screen completely from the motherboard, will an external one connected via vga still work?

Connect Laptop With Shattered Screen To External Monitor
Since my entire monitor is totally unreadable, does anybody know any shortcuts or any keystrokes or combinations to display my data on the desktop monitor manually? It can be as complicated as for example, : start key, tab, up up up up down down. I just need some method of displaying the content of my laptop with the shattered screen to the external monitor.

Cannot Use Safely Remove Hardware To Disconnect External Hdd
When disconnecting usb flash drives, i for one never use the safely remove hardware button, and never had any problems as a result of this habit, probably because i always leave write caching disabled, as it is by default - according to the windows help, this means you can disconnect a drive without going through safely remove hardware. Now, i have recently bought an external hard-drive (a samsung story station), which i use on and off, several times per day. Since an electro-mechanical hard-drive is surely more fragile than a solid-state usb flash drive, and also because this hdd cost me quite a lot, i though it wouldn't hurt to develop the good practice of always using safely remove hardware before turning its power off. The problem is, most of the time this process is not straightforward, and produces the error message "the device 'generic volume' cannot be stopped because a program is still accessing it". This happens at a time when the hdd is (at least to my knowledge) no longer in use, i.e. I've copied a few files to/from it, and the transfer has stopped for a few good minutes before i press the safely remove hardware button. I know there may be many reasons why windows sees the hard-drive as still being in use, but my question to all you hardware-aware techniques is: how harmful is it for the hard-drive if i just turn the power off after i've finished using it (no ongoing transfers, of course) without using safely remove hardware? Again, this would be at a time when windows is under the impression that the hdd is still being used, even though - mind you - the hdd's led is not blinking, indicating that there is in fact no activity. Thanks in advance for any replies!

Laptop Inbuilt Synaptics Mouse & External Mouse Fail To Work
On my ~1 year old win xp pro laptop, the inbuilt synaptics mouse and any external mice, ps2 or usb fail to work. I'm having to use it via keystrokes only, so even typing this is hard to get to it. I've had this problem since this morning. I brought it downstairs (its kept upstairs) and turned it on, and when it booted to the welcome screen, the pointer was in the center and my ps2 optical mouse (chic) wasn't responding, although the actual led bit was on. I tried my touchpad (synaptics model) and that also doesn't work. The animated icon in my systray didn't respond to my touches. I have since tried 2 other mice, one ps2 and 1 usb, and i have had no luck. The only way to control my mouse is using mousekeys (ugh) or using a mouse via vnc. I have no hardware devices listed in my mouse hardware list in the control panel. I am not sure if it is a hardware or a software problem, but if i fear the worst, and it's hardware, perhaps my ps2 controller thingy busted? Although it shouldn't take out usb or touchpad either. I hope its more of a software problem, but after rolling back system restore point from last friday (when it definately worked), i have had no luck. I have also reinstalled the drivers for my usb mouse and the driver cd that came with my laptop. I am really stuck, and i won't be able to take it into technical support until monday. I really hope to have this fixed asap. Any help you can give me would be great, and as i use my laptop a lot, i'm really stuffed, everything else seems to be working okay, and i have not noticed any other problems, although there was a process in task manager using about 92% of cpu called sypad or something similar.

Computer Displays Post Screen Then Went To Black Screen
My computer has been running sluggish for about two days now. Was searching the web the other day and computer just came to a halt and froze. So i rebooted the computer and then it wouldn't start up. It displays the post screen but after that it went to a black screen with a white bar at the bottom of the screen. Looked like a progress bar. Rebooted again but same thing. Popped in the os disc and tried a check desk and fdisk and it came up with some errors. Got to stage 4 of 5 on them and then stopped at 50% for hours. So today i started it up again and it finally booted to the windows logo and then finally to desktop. Took around 30mins to do so. Hard drive light indicator is always on for the most part and takes forever to load applications. Okay, i guess my question is this about to be a hard drive failure? Never had one so clueless of what it is but would think it would have something to do with the hard drive. Also before it froze the other day, applications started being really slow. For example it took 10mins just for the save file dialog box to pop up to save a file.

Laptop Screen Problem
I have a big problem with my laptop screen. I have a hp zv6000 15. 4 widescreen. My laptop was fine. I put it in the case and traveled in the car with it for a few hours. When i took it out i now have this huge mark that basically goes from one corner to the other. Sort of an arch. I look very similar to a permanent marker. I found a dead pixel tester online and downloaded it to see. It seems that they the screen doesnt have dead pixels. I am assuming the only way to fix this is to replace the lcd screen itself. I was hoping maybe i could replace the inverter and be ok but i doubt it. I wanted to double check with someone that maybe has some experience with this issue.

Swapping Laptop Screen
What factors are relevant in determining screen compatibility between laptops? My laptop was taken out in a lightning storm, and it doesn't look like it's worth fixing. However, the screen is perfectly good. And there are a lot of people who'll sell laptops with busted screens for dirt cheap. So i figure if i can find a laptop in need of a new screen with which my old one is compatible, i can save some dough. There's the question of what happened to a laptop which has a dead or cracked screen, and whether or not i'd want it in light of whatever the *** happened to it. But it seems worth investigating to me. I know some obvious things - such as it having to the same size, of course. But i'm unaware of all the factors that need to be identical for one screen to work in another unit, or whether there are any resources out there that can simplify the process of determining compatibility. So if anyone could let me know what things must be identical in order for this to work, and if there are any websites, etc. That can help make the process of determining compatibility easier, that'd be great.

Broken Laptop Screen
So i had a stoke of bad luck and my laptop fell off the table, the screen is cracked and needs to be replaced, it will cost me 500+ to get it repaired so i was wondering if anyone could tell me exactly how hard it would be to buy the lcd screen and repair it myself, i've built countless desktops in my day so i'm good with computer hardware but have never delt with laptops before as far as building, so if anyone knows what it would take to do this please let me know. I don't know if it makes a different but the laptop is an alienware area-51 m5550 15. 4" screen, also if anyone knows where i could get the parts needed for this as well it would be very much appreciated.

Using Different Lcd Screen For Laptop
Will a laptop not work if its connected to a different lcd? This is pure curiosity. I know that the lcd might not fit, but could you theoretically change the lcd screens of two laptops or do they have different little connectors. Or even if they fit, would they not work? I've always wondered this since i've changed my laptop's screen.

What Is A Good Touch Screen Laptop ?
My neighbor asked me for a favor to look into a touch screen laptops. I found pics of it on-line, but wasn't able to get a big selection to choose from, especially not knowing exactly what to look for in those things aside from normal pc specs. He is not trying to spend a lot of money, but wants something "fast" and something that he can use with ease to like write a book or something on. And perhaps play some occasional games on, however this is not a priority if it will significantly increase the price. Not even sure what to expect for the price either. Suggestions, links, pics are appreciated.

Repairing Laptop Lcd Screen
Have a friend who just purchased an hp pavilion ze5000 laptop but the screen has a "white" screen, the laptop shows fine when connected to any other monitors. I am thinking that this might be a great opportunity for me to get a multimeter and learn how to use it and gain some experience/knowledge in repair but i don't wish to mess up anything in trying or misdiagnose something and have my friend purchase the wrong parts. I already have some great documentation for this but don't wish to have only that documentation to work from so i was wondering if there is anyone here experienced in laptop lcd screen repair who can guide me through the process please or if i can ask specific questions concerning the repair attempt to get some help?

Hp Laptop Monitor Screen Problem
A couple of days ago, my screen completely blacked out. We called tech support who said it was a back light problem (the computer still started up and if you shone a flashlight on the screen you could see the desktop). The next day it started right up and i could use it for a few hours. Then it blacked out again. I called hp again and they said they would send us a shipping box for warranty work. While waiting for the box, i've been plugging into another computer monitor to do my work, which works fine; however, occasionally, after plugging into another monitor i am able to disconnect my laptop from the other monitor and use for a few hours. But the second i close the laptop, the screen goes black and i need to hook into the monitor again. Any ideas?

My home computer's not working i think it's the screen monitor. Can i somehow connect it to my laptop screen?
Answer:- no - laptops don't have the right "video-in". Perhaps you could borrow a monitor from a friend. (Lots of folks have extra monitors around. ) Does your monitor have any on-screen menus to access various adjustments? For a simple test, try to activate the on-screen menu. If that doesn't come up at all, that will confirm that the monitor is dead.

Toshiba Laptop Not Go Past Welcome Screen
I was restarting my computer after an update for my itunes and i think that one of my family members accidentally turned it off (which might have caused the problem). Also, in safe mode, it says that windows installer is supposedly not properly installed. And when it does go past the welcome screen after i do a system restore, it is enormously slow.

Laptop Screen Goes Black When Idle
Every minute or so, my laptop screen will go black, like its on standby. This only happens when it is not plugged in and recharging. Also, i already went to control panel and adjusted the screensaver to 30 minutes and clicked apply, but that hasn't helped either. I was told it could be that hibernate mode was on or something, but i dont know where to find that either. My laptop is a asus windows 7 if that helps.

Connect A Desktop Computer To Laptop Screen
Is there a way using some kind of cable to connect a desktop to a laptop's screen (without physically opening or breaking anything).
