Transfer Data Including Windows Xp From Old Hdd To New Hdd

Im getting a new 250gig sataii hard drive, with 16mb cache. Just like to know if there is any simple way of transferring all my old stuff on the current drive onto this new drive without too much trouble. Like is there a way of transferring the whole os (windows xp), all the progs and stuff onto this new hdd through an image or in an easy way?

Vhs To Hdd Transfer

I'm attempting to put all of my older vhs tape media on my pc's hdd. My vcr is older as it only has audio/video in and out rca jacks and of course a cable f-jack (believe that's what a normal cable jack is called), not even an s-video jack. My video cards are xfx 7800 gt's extreme editions in which i believe has vivo. Also i have a pvr-500 dual tuner tv card hooked up to my makeshift htpc setup. This might be the most feasible way to capture video from my vcr, but i'm a little sketchy on how to go about doing it.

Multiple Hdd Transfer

Is there a way for me to get my music files and perhaps other larger amounts of files from my old wd onto my new sg barracuda hdd by transfer? And in the end be running windows off the seagate while just using the wd as the storage only drive? If not, then what do you suggest? And if i can, then how would i go about it?

Hdd Transfer Speed Over Usb

I keep on wondering how come my hard drives have such a low transfer speed with usb. I have a mybook and a usb docking station. Both of them cannot transfer past than 20mbs. When i switch back to sata, i get at least 3 times the transfer speed (more for my faster drives). Sata is faster than usb, i can understand that. But usb 2. 0's rated transfer rate is 60mbs, what exactly is throttling the speed?

What Hdd To Buy For A Backup To Copy The Data ?

I've got 200 gb of data in my pc that i want to back up in case my hdd fails. So, the question is: what hdd to buy, in case i just want to plug it in the pc, copy the data, unplug it out and keep it safe in some place?

I think the requirements are these, correct me if i'm wrong: doesn't have to be big (500 gb is enough). If for some other reason bigger is needed, i'll pay for it, but it's not a primary goal doesn't have to be fast, i guess. I don't care how long the copying takes and i won't be using it at all after the files are copied also, i don't care how noisy it is, since it won't be used at all

Just a note: i do have sata controller in my pc.

Cannot Install Windows In New Hdd

I just got myself a segate baracuda hdd (pata), plugged it as primary master, set the jumper accordingly, restarted the computer, got into bios, and the primary master is shown as the segate baracuda hdd just as it should. The secondary master and slave are my two dvd burner drives and these are shown in bios as well. Next, i attempted installing windows xp on the new hdd, on the 'select partition to install screen', it says 'setup could not access this drive'. Next, i tried 'diskpart' from the recovery console, says 'could not access'. Next, i tried my old windows 98 cd, booted to dos, and tried a:>fdisk. Says: warning: could not access disk 1. Tried setting the new hdd as a secondary slave, the secondary master being one of the dvd writers (unplugged the second dvd writer), set the jumpers accordingly. Again, the hdd is shown as the secondary slave in bios as it should, and again, windows could not be installed. Tried all the available modes in bios (lba, chs, large, auto), but the exact same thing happens, no matter what i do. Is the new hdd dead? I even tried a new data cable, same results.

Difference In Transfer Rate From Usb To Usb And Hdd To Usb

I have an seagate 160gb external hdd (fat32), and i was wondering if moving the page file to the external disk would garner any extra performance gains. I was also wondering if there is a difference in the transer rate from the usb->usb and hdd->usb. I was thinking about using hdtach on my external drive, so i think i'll give that a try.

Sata Hdd Do Not Show Up In Windows Vista But Shows In Bios

I just bought a new computer with one sata hard drive in it. Everything is fine with the computer. I had an old computer that had two hard drives in it. Ither was one sata hard drive from my old computer which was a secondary hard drive used for storing media. It worked properly in that computer. I then proceeded to plug it into my new computer. Now, only the original hard drive in my new computer shows up under my computer. My secondary sata drive only shows up in the bios. How can i get this to work so that i can enjoy my music and videos on my new computer?

Usb 2.0 External Hdd Error Windows Delayed Write Failed

I purchased a western digital 40 gb, 5400rpm usb2. 0 external hdd(2. 5") recently and when i try to copy large cunk of data, windows gives me an error

"Windows-delayed write failed"
Windows was unable to save all the data for the file deviceharddiskvolume6. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file else where. But small chunks of data can be saved. Also when this happens, windows does not recognize the partitions of the usb drive and shows only one letter for the drive without any contents!

My pc's configuration is as follows:

850mhz celeron
256mb sdram
Internal 20gb samsung hdd(54000rpm)
Pci-to-usb - pci card fitted into pci slot(has 4 usb outlets)
Windows 2000 professional with sp4

I have no conflicts whatsoever with the usb drivers. One more thing; i have not faced the above problem when i try to transfer data from another system which is of a higher configuration than what i have mentioned above. This system's configuration is:
Windows 2000 professional service pack 4 (build 2195)
1. 93 gigahertz intel pentium 4
8 kilobyte primary memory cache
256 kilobyte secondary memory cache
512mb ddr-ram

Any fix?

Transfer Data Between Two Pcs

What is the best way to transfer the data between two computers depends on the following factors. Data transfer rate expenditure on such technology ease of use. I’ve made a poll option, and make your comments there. Here’s what i thought on this case. Usb 2. 0 supports data rates as high as 480mbps, even in normal condition it can be around 50mbps. So, to transfer 1gb of data it takes around 20 - 30 seconds. Easy to use, because the hot plug is supported. But it is expensive. To use nic (network interface card), first need to install drivers or software, because some of the main boards don’t integrated nic circuitry there. Data transfer rate of crossover cable is varied from 100mbps to 10mbps. So it takes more than 30 seconds to transfer 1gb of data. Especially the length of the cable determines that. Cheaper than usb 2. 0. At the end, two factors are satisfied (data transfer rate and ease of use) by usb 2. 0, and seems to me it is fine.

Transfer Data Between Pcs

I have a new computer being shipped within the next week, and i want to transfer all of the data from this computer to the new one. I don't want to put it all on cds, but i was thinking, can i get an external hard drive to store all of this data on, and then load it onto the new computer?

I'm just not sure what to do really, but if anyone has any specific ideas, please tell me. I'd love to be able to have my data ready from this computer to be put onto the new one before the computer gets here.

Dvd Rom Drive, Flash Hard Drive Slowing Data Transfer Speed

Issue a: when i put a cd/dvd into my dvd, the system (my computer/properties) recognizes the hardware, but it will not play. (Drive letter "d". )

Issue b: my computer will not recognize my data (flash?) Cards from my digital camcorder/camera. Issue c: my computer's hard drive (drive letter "c") once accepted my firewire uplink (1333). Now, my nle (pinnacle studio 9 plus) give the error message "drive c is not capable of capturing dv data", meaning it's date transfer rate is too slow. How can i fix these issues? Do i have to buy a new hard drive?

Hdd Failing

So unfortunately i'm thinking one of my hd's might be failing so i was looking to see if you guys had any ideas. Basically i was just coding up some script and when i hit save my comp locked up. (I wasn't save or writing to this particular hd at the time) and i hear this high pitched tone come out of my speakers (not my system speaker). I went ahead and restarted the machine and as it was booting up it seems to take a long time at a black screen in between the windows bootscreen loading bar and the windows login. Eventually it loads and i sign in and the drive no longer shows up like it used to. Essentially, here's what my hd list now looks like:

Server (_stuff_) (v:)
Server (_stuff_) (w:)
Server (_stuff_) (x:)
Local disk (y:)
Server (_stuff_) (z:)

Ontop of it showing up like that i can't open the drive. If i even so much as right click on that drive explorer locks and i have to end-task and relaunch it. Also, i went ahead and ran a s. M. A. R. T. Checker on it and although the results mean nothing to me (im not sure what to look for) the status of everything seems to be fine: lastly everything seems to look fine when i do a chkdsk on the drive as well: i dont really know what else to do except wipe it and try to use it but i'd like to avoid that option as i have 400gb of stuff on it. That being said, any ideas?

Hdd Error

The user has a dell dimension 8200, with xp home. There is only one hd in the system, it is set as a master. The motherboard that i replaced had gotten fried. The reasoning behind why i think that is because the bios would not find either the cdrom or hd; both of which were connected to different ide slots. So i replaced the board, and the bios finds the cd-rom, but not the hd. I tested the hd in another machine and it works fine. I have tested the ide cable i'm using, as well as the molex plug providing power, both work fine. The psu is fine. I uninstalled all unnecessary devices, and still no luck. The bios detects it as an unknown device. I tried loading wd datalifeguard tools, but it can't read the drive either. The last thing i can think of is flashing the bios, which i'm not wanting to do. It seems as though the bios doesn't know where to look for the drive, or it's not obtaining the proper i/o address or dma channel?

Xbox Hdd

Ok so my friend took the western digital 8gb out of his xbox, and he gave it to me. I want to use it as an extra slave for music, and no matter now i set the jumpers or which spot i set it on the ide cable it will not show up. I also tried it as a master and putting an os on it, no go, still won't work. Does anyone know why the hdd won't work ? Does microsoft do something to them to make them only function in an xbox?

Ok i have the enermax temp & fan controller for my 3 1/2 bay, and whenever i turn my fans up on my vantec nexus the alarm goes off on the evermax that the other fan speeds are dropping, even though i have no fans connected to the enermax ctrl. What could cause this? Only thing i could think of is they are on the same line from the psu and when i increase voltage on one the other looses? I'm going to disassemble tomorrow or next week to check out the situation. Last q is about bf1942. When it opens and the 1st ea screen comes up the sounds is crackling like a mofo and its choppy, its like that all the way to the main menu. Then when i join a server and it loads everything is smooth as skilk. Anyone know why?

I tried changing the sound settings to default, and then to support my hardware (in sig). But it didn't make a difference. And bf1942 is the only game it happens with. Oh and hes going to be putting some led's in his xbox controller dongles, what kind of inverter will we need for the led's ?

Hdd Blinking Once Per Second

This is a new build, p5k / 6550 with 4 g memory running vista 64. When the machine is idle, the hdd light blinks once per second. And it just keeps doing it. Any idea what's going on?

Seems like i could get a premature hd failure if this goes on for a few years!

Ramdisk To Hdd

I have recently been building my server. Now that i have 8 gb of ram, i'm wondering if i can somehow create a ramdisk on the server and then share it. Writing files to it across the network will be nice and quick i'm assuming. Is there a way to say, once the ramdisk gets full, write that data to a local hdd on the server? So basically the file goes:

Remote computer -> ramdisk share on the server -> local storage hdd on the server. I'm thinking this would increase the write speed to the server. Do you guys know of any way of doing this?

(Note: please no comments of "get faster hdds!" Or anything like that. In the future i plan on it, and i just want to see if the above is doable, for *** and giggles. )

Switch Hdd

Is there a limit to how many hdd's you can have connected to your motherboard at anyone time. Limited by the master/slave connection? And if so. Wouldn't it be cool if you could have like 5 hdd's inside your pc pre-connected but not operating. And if you needed to switch. Rather than having to open the case up and *** about disconnecting. Would be good if you could just flick a switch to change over. Does this already exist. (I take it this couldn't be done when the computer is running)

Hdd Drive Setting

I've added a new hdd to the system but it has not been given a drive label. Device manager read the hdd after first o/s boot, and sees properly what it is. It also states the drive is working properly and drivers are most recent. Yet i cannot see or access the drive (my computer, dos etc). Physically the connections are well. The hdd has no jumpers and is running off the slave connection of the cable. Bios however, states that group 2 is cd drives, group 3 is hdd drives and group 4 is networking drives. It also states that the main hdd is on the the third controller, on it's own, while the new hdd is a slave to the second controller where the master is the cd drive. Oddly enough, the group 3 hdd priority lists the new hdd as main, and the original hdd as secondary, yet the computer boots straight off the main(original) hdd without a hitch. The main hdd is also paritioned (safety recovery partition) so effectively it's using c: and d:. E: is for the cd. F, g, h, i are removable usb storage and j: is a virtual cd drive. I tried to take a stab at command line with "k:" but invalid.
