Computer Shuts Down When I Play Online Game

I have a problem that i dont know the source. I am running windows xp pro, athlon xp 2400, 512mb ram, and plenty of space on harddrive. When i play this online game, (conqueronline.com. Au), my comp always shuts down in the middle of the game. However, if i do normal surfing or play single-player game, watch movies, on my comp, it's fine. Does anyone know what might be the problem? I am suspecting that my motherboard could be the source of the problem, but not sure!

Total Loss Of Control - Computer Freezes When Play Game

I just recieved a new computer and it seems to do normal things like desktop work or internet browsing fine, but if i try to play a game, it locks up. I do not over clock anything. When it does this, there is a total loss of control, the sound goes into a loop, and the only thing i can do is a hard shutdown. It did this with everquest2 within the first 10 to 15 mins. I lowered all the graphics way down, and it then happened while zoning my character in. The computer came with age of empires 3, so i tried that. It lets me play for maybe 20 minutes and then would do it. Now, it will not even get past the intro movie. I installed the drivers for an amd dual core processor on a 32 bit windows system from amd and this did not help. I reduced the power management settings to the minimal settings per amd's website. I did all the windows updates it would give me, i upgraded dot net to 2. 0. I upgraded directx to the newest version 9c. I ran the dxdiag and it didnt show any issues. I ran a memory test using the windows program and it did 2 passes with no errors. The video cards were set for crossfire mode when i recieved it. I have tried to install the most recent radeon driver for xp multimedia edition with no luck. Right now i have set it back to the driver that came with the cards, which says it is 8. 24. I tried one of the omega drivers too, and it had no effect (was 6. 7 i believe). I tried updating the sound driver because the sound was looping during the freeze, and that didnt help so i installed an audigy gamer card and disabled the onboard sound. This gave me the same result so i uninstalled it. I called the tech support and he said it sounded like a video or hard drive issue and wanted me to try one card at a time, moving them to different pci-e slots and seeing if it would happen then. I tried each card alone in each slot and age of empires would go for about 20 mins and then freeze. (One of the pci-e slots looks slightly warped, but even if i dont have a video card in there, it still freezes, and i was also able to play agoe of empires for 20 mins with a card in that slot) i have tried playing with the side cover off and a fan going as well to see if it was heat related. The cards seem to hover in the 45-51 degrees.computer specifications:

Online Multiplayer Game - Slow Pc

When playing my favorite online multiplayer game, i notice that everyone on my team runs faster than me. They also seem to have an advantage in combat against me. I find it strange because i have a more powerful machine. I also have a blazingly fast online connection. It's not a skill issue either as i am one of the better players in this game (no one lives forever 2). It *** me off to no end. I have done just about every tweak i can think of to no avail.

Online Game Freezing, Random Restarts

I started getting this weird freezing problem while playing cs: source. It started as just a small little freeze here and there which at first i figured might be lag, but soon got worse. It ended up leading to random restarts at anytime (although these have been rare, but they have happened at least 5 times) and sometimes my screen will just go black for about a second or two and then reappear. The freezin stuff only happens in games, or at least source since that's all i've played recently. The random black screen only happens if i'm not playing (at desktop, internet, etc. ) And now this new thing has started happening where source will just crash completely and end. Like it'll stop for about a second and i'll here that little noise that goes bum like a soft beep and it'll take me to the desktop. About a week ago when it was starting to get severe i did a system restore to a time way before this and then it started happening again eventually after like a day. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, gotten new drivers, done everything you can with drivers and that hasn't done anything. My temps might have a small part in the restarts i think since sometimes the temps get a little high since it has been hot lately around my area. Also, i can't figure out how to use memtest. I downloaded it and extracted it, so now it's in a folder called boot with another file inside of it titled boot as well, but i still have no idea how to use memtest so can someone help me with that as well?

And i did prime95 and got no erros on tests that didn't require any memory or only a little and then i ran tests that used a lot and i got hardware erros in like 5 seconds. So at this point i'm thinking the whole main thing could be the ram especially if i could figure out memtest and part of it could be recent high temps (not hsf issue though since when i turn on the ac in my house temps goes down) at least for the rare restart issue.

Pc Shuts Off When Access A Game

Every time i access a game my pc shuts off or sometimes the monitor only shuts off and i can hear some noises from the game. I searched and searched in the internet how to fix this problem but many came up with replacing your v card so i did, but in fact my new v card "radeon 9550" works fine but after 2 hours the monitor again shuts off unexpected the symptoms again showed up. Until i installed a speed fan and discovered my pc is heating up to temp:60c even if there is no active application, and in fact i have 2 fans blowing towards the cpu and i removed the cpu skin. But the problem persists.

When i played "warrock" with my new v card it turned out well but after a few minutes the monitor again shuts off and i heard sounds of that game i pressed ctrl+alt+del luckily the monitor again starts back up because warrock has been ended using task manager the same thing happens with my old v card. After a few minutes i executed again warrock and opened the speed fan(application)it went temp:70c after that it gone busted and i tried to view the task manager under the performance tab i saw 100% cpu usage.guyz i was wondering what made the heat so intense even if i had only a single application running and last week even i accessed the internet chatting with yahoo and executed warrock at the same time it turned out well and no signs of computer failure and back then it is my old v card.

Pc Freezes When Play Ut2004 Game

I did a clean install of xp32, installed and updated all the drivers fine, avoided installing the swe ide driver for the nvidia chipset, and the comp is running smooth. Whenever the pc reaches 100% cpu usage, it takes a while to drop down, and the pc gets super laggy. The main problem happens when i try to play ut2004, w/ all the settings cranked up. The main menu loads fine, but after about 30 seconds, everything gets laggy. The mouse even lags like ***. If i don't exit out, the pc freezes. I remember when i first upgraded my comp to this setup, i played ut all the way cranked up just fine. Also hl2 all the way. I don't know what happened since then that caused this problem. I defragged my hdd, ran antivirus. I tried testing both sticks of my 512 ram, that's not the problem. I tried switching around the psu cables so there's nothing else attached to the wires that's attached to my gfx cables. I tried using forceware coolbits2 to make the 2d and 3d clockspeeds the same. The only thing i didn't try yet was changing my psu. My 400w antec is 20 pin, but my mobo takes 24 pin. But i plugged in the 4pin ez-plug on my mobo, which is what users of 20pin psu have to do.

Play Windows 95 Game On Vista

It there any way i can get my theme park game for windows 95 working on my laptop that is windows vista? I love this game, and want to play on it again but when i click on the file to start the game it says this system does not support full screen mode. Is there anything i can do?

Answer:- a lot of programs from 95/98 won't work, even with compatibility for the relevant os enabled. In those cases pretty much the only answer is to use a program called dosbox, dos box emulates a dos environment, its a free open source program. It's guaranteed to work for any game or program that will no longer work on nt based windows and above: http://www.Dosbox.com/

Nwn / Driver Issues - Stuttery Game Play

I've been messing with this one for a while. Some times when i play neverwinter nights i get stuttering game play. As if my graphics card is running at 10 fps. Some times it's perfectly fine, as if there's no problems. This is the only game it does this in. Updated the driver once when the problem started happening with the last update of nwn to the newest whql from the nv web site. My gut instinct says it's the game's last update that did it. Any suggestions? The void may know more about this one.system specs:

Unable To Play Max Payne Game - System Hangs

No accelerator card, although the graphics card is sis (inbuilt) and so is the sound card. I used to play max payne earlier and have completed both the parts, but, now whenever i try starting it or any other game for that matter, my systems hangs, it is not able to run any games. Actually, i had left my system in my flat for sometime and when i took it back, i discovered that the ram was broken and the socket was also a bit faulty, due to which (once i changed the ram), whenever i used boot. I would not get the post beep and when i would re-start my pc, then i would get it, (sometimes it used to happen that i would have to re-boot my system 2-3 times to hear the post beep!). Sometimes it also happens that, on switching on my system the post beep would come, but there would be no display on the screen. I know the game can run without a 3d acclelerator card.computer specifications:

Dual Monitor - Watch A Movie And Play Game At Same Time

I was wondering if there was any way for me to be able to play a full screen game like counterstrike source, and watch a movie with an s-video plug on my tv at the same time. I tried it and when the game loads on my main monitor while the movie is running on my tv, the movie re-adjusts itself and doesn't fit onto the tv correctly (a part of the video is cut off). Am i doing something wrong, or is it not even possible to do this?

System specs are:

Athlon xp 3200+
1gb pc 3200 ram
Radeon 9800 pro video card.

Play Gears Of War Game On Asus Eah4350 Silent

Can you play gears of war game on a asus eah4350 silent/di/1gd2 pci-e graphics card - 1gb?

Answer:-
However the asus hd4350 isn't that powerful. Even with the healthy 1gb of ddr3 memory its 800mhz memory clock and 64bit memory interface wont allow it to run this game at anything higher than 1024x768. It will run at 1280x1024 however it wont be playable and 1024x768 is a fully playable resolution

What i tend to do with demanding games like gears of war is tweak the detail and resolution settings, best thing to do is lower the resolution to 1024x768 and all detail settings to minimum/low then run the first chapter and check how playable the game is at those settings. If they are fine then slowly higher the detail and run again. You have several options open to you for example run at low resolution and higher detail or higher the resolution and stay with lower detail also run the frame rate utility "fraps"( http://www.Fraps.com/ ) which will allow you to monitor the frame rate at each settings

Bare in mind 25fps is a smooth and playable frame rate so use this as a reference rate, however 20fps can also be playable, it depends on the game.

Computer Just Shuts Off

A couple hours ago, i tap the front of the case with my foot, and everything just shuts off. I tried turning it back on and nothing happened. So i turned the power supply off and back on and tried again. This time, it tried to start and then immediately shutoff again. The power supply has a blue light in it and that goes out immediately as well. I can see 2 yellow lights on the motherboard are lit when the power supply is turned on. Do you think my power supply blew or is it something else? Any way i can test?

Computer Shuts Off After Startup

I just put together a new comp and unfortunately when i go to start it, it stays on for about a second and then shuts off, it only stays on long enough for the lights to flash and the fans to move just a bit, then it shuts down. I have been looking at different troubleshooting pages and they all have given me different answers to my prob, a few said pcu, some said motherboard, some said power supply, and one said memory. I wanted to know if anyone can give me an informed opinion on what might be causing the problem.

Computer Shuts Down During Memtest

My comp was suddenly shutting off during movies, music and internet browsing. It gen didn't shut off while standing still. I used the dell os cd to erase the partition and format ntfs (reg, not quick). During the menu's before the formatting and during the formatting, it continue'd to shut off. Now i don't have an os. On another comp, i burned two cds, one is window mem test and the other is memtest. The computer passed the windows mem test on all 11 counts of the adv scan. It keep restarting during the other cd, with memtest. Neither memory testers show an error while they are running. Both are run in default mode, as configured when i burned the isos the their cds. I ran the built-in diag tool in the bios, but it could only run half the tests, because the diag utilies on the hd are erased. I don't have the drivers and utilities cd that it asks for. Is this a memory prob, power supply, or what? I don't really have money to take to a repair shop or buy parts without knowing the prob. Let me know if you need any more info.

Computer Just Shuts Down Completely

Ok i have a computer never had a problem since i've had it i've always kept it updated . With new hardware and software. But now all of a sudden i'm on the internet or playing a game . Even watching tv and it just shuts down completely! . I thought maybe it was a virus so i backed up all my files, reformatted the computer, and re-done the windows. Still shutting down. Do you know what this could possibly be. My computer doesn't get hot. I got a fairly new power supply. But i've been using the same surge protector. Its a small one. But i've alwayz had that one since i got the computer. Someone at walmart thinks i need to get a new surge protector . The real big one. With the cable plug-ins on it for the tv.

Booting From Cd Shuts Off The Computer

Whenever i boot from my windows xp pro cd to reinstall the os it shuts off the computer completely at a certain point. I'm not sure if it is time related, but it shuts off right around the screen that it asks where to install xp. However, ubuntu 7 and windows vista are fine. They install and startup without a hitch. So what's the deal with xp? Could it perhaps be a problem with my cd or is it something else? The computer original ran xp back when i bought it in november 2006. I've seen this problem across the net but none seemed to propose an answer. I don't really think it would be a hardware problem if xp is the only one that has done this. Please note, this is not the first time i have reinstalled xp (i have installed it before successfully, this is the very first time i have had problems like this).

Computer Shuts Off Unexpectedly

So, this just started happening the other day, for no reason what so ever that i can see my computer just shut off. Not a shutdown sequence or anything like that, just flat out power-off like someone pulled the plug. Thought at first maybe a short power outage as we have been having them recently here, and it seems my ups backup is dead because it's been doing nothing to keep the comps up when the power goes out. I immediatly realized though, that not a single thing in the room other than the computer turned off. The other comp next to me was still on, lamp was still on, monitors were still on (though blank now). The problem keeps coming up now too, if i try and do anything with my computer other than just general email/programming/play some mp3s, it's likely to turn off, especially if i fire up any game like world of warcraft or black and white 2. At this point, i've determined it's likely either 1) the graphics card is over heating and causing the computer to power down or 2) my power supply has somehow become unstable and likes to shutoff if it's getting stressed or something. Idea #1 i tested by installing a temperature monitor and watching the temp. It's running at around 70c, sometimes getting up to about 76-78c. It's an nvidia 8800gtx card and from what i've seen searching about it, these temperatures are considered fairly normal, and i shouldn't have a problem unless i start seeing 85c+ which i never have. None the less, i'm still not entirely sure that the card isn't the problem since the power-off only seems to occur when it's being worked by a game, and the temp hits the mid-70s. For idea #2 i don't have any idea what i can do to test this. I have no backup power supply i could swap with which will work with this system (sata connectors, the gtx's power connectors, etc) otherwise i'd do that and see if the problem goes away. Is there any way i might be able to some how test this power supply without having to spend a lot of (preferably no, as i'm unemployed atm) money?

Lastly, any other ideas for things to check? According to the temperature monitor software my cpu is running at a nice cool 45c pretty much all times, and it's "system temperature" is 40c almost consistently. I'm pretty sure it's not the cpu that's overheating or causing a problem.

Computer Shuts Itself Off After 10 Seconds

When i turn on the power button the fans, leds, and hard drive turn on, but nothing appears on the screen. Then, 10 seconds later the computer shuts itself off. All this while no beeps come from the speaker. I've tried to reset the cmos with no resolution. My next step was removing all the peripherals, including the video card, but the symptoms remain exactly the same, in that it shuts off after 10 seconds. I removed the cpu and it doesn't smell burnt at all. I should add that there is a 5 month old antec power supply (i believe around 500 watts). So i'm going to assume its not the power supply. My question is weather the problem lies in the cpu or motherboard, or what other suggestions or help you guys may have.

Computer Shuts Down Unexpectedly

The computer shuts down only when i am really dogging it. For instance, yesterday, i had photoshop/unreal dev kit/web browser/messenger/movie tut/documentation all running on windows 7 and was using close to 3gb of memory and had just opened the unreal dev test mode and after about 3 minutes of traveling around to diagnose my map, it shut down. I was monitoring the temperatures as i was fully aware i had a lot going on and was definitely pushing it as hard as i could. Video showed about 75oc (i've called evga and they claim this is right about where it should be at peak temperature); my core was at about 56-57oc (again, i've called this in and amd claims that's about perfect at peak); and my general system temperature was about 53oc and suddenly, poof, the computer went off. The board didn't seem to receive any damage and came right back on and ran without any complaints, it was just that it seemed to say "i have had enough, i'm going down". I don't see any event logs in windows event viewer outside unexpected power outage, so i'm assuming it was delegated by the board, not windows. I have run prime95 for 24 hours to make sure that the processor isn't having trouble, and i ran 3dmark for 6 hours to make sure it wasn't video trouble and neither item alone pops the computer. Reading around, i don't believe i'm using over 450w-500w of power, and have a 700w power supply, that wattage calculation came from a wattage calculator and i tried to get at least 200 over the suggested amount. How can i figure out what is shutting down this dang computer!? Any suggestions? Should i just buy a second power supply and try it? Is 700w grossly underpowered for this kind of setup?

I'm going in for another prime95 test this weekend in fear that the board got damaged again. Does anyone have any other applications i should use to test what is causing this?

Computer Powers Then Shuts Down

I have a problem with an older computer (98-99) i turn it on, and it starts to turn on, and then as soon as it starts to load a little bit it turns off, the monitor stays on though. I have tried putting in the recovery disk but the computer turns off before i get to start formatting, does anyone know what it could be? I have tried plugging it in different outlets and nothing changes. Is it the power supply?
