Long Boot Times With Dvd Drive

It sits @ that windows-knight-rider screen and the blue line is crossing about 10-12 times before anything happens. Yesterday i had to disconnect my dvd to connect my reserve hdd and see. It boots after 3 or 4 times of that line passing. Is that coz i got a bad driver or bad firmware there. Don't know if driver makes difference coz i think windows got 1 generic and it don't affect my secondary dvd drive. Any suggestions?

Pc Takes A Long Time To Boot Up
First: it takes from 20 minutes to 2 hours to boot up, i don't see anything in the monitor, but the fan in the power supply spins and the fan at top of the processor also works, only the red light of the hard disk turns on. I have tried with another hard disk that works fine in another pc, and it's the same, it takes forever to boot up. I have replace the power supply from 250 to 450 and i still have that problem. Second: after waiting that long for the pc to boot up, the cpu clock speed reads 733 mhz instead of 1700. I reset the jumper in the motherboard, to get the correct speed, but i have to do this everytime the computer has been off for a while. Are the two problems related? Is the motherboard bad? Once the pc boot ups, it works fine.

My daughter has a dell inspiron 1150 laptop which seems to have some sort of memory conflict of sort. It takes a very long time to complete the boot-up sequence and then, for no apparent reason simply slow down to a halt when opening a program (microsoft word, for example). The fan starts working overtime and processing performance slows to a halt. The task manager shows that most of the resources are being consumed by the system idle process. I have run spybot and adaware and mcafee anti-virus and nothing one turns turns up any problems. Any suggestions as to where to look next?

Computer Freezes On Boot - Long Time To Load Windows
I was having issues with a game of mine hard locking my pc. The only way to get out of it was to hold down the power button and force the pc to power down, then boot back up. Trying to trouble shoot the game, this happened several times. Then, it started freezing on the memory test. It's not really freezing, though - if i leave it sit for a very long time ( 5 to ten minutes ), it will eventually boot into windows. Any ideas?

Bios Takes Long Time To Identify Dvd Drives On Ide 2
I recently updated my pc - new ram, new sata hard drive and a new case. I've put everything in the case and after a few issues, i got it running. I do seem to have some troubles with my cd/dvd drives though and i was wondering if anyone could give me some help. First, here's a rough overview of the important bits:
Msi 865pe neo2 pfisr motherboard
120gb ide hd - on ide1 as master
160gb sata hd - on "ide3"
1 dvd-rom drive - on ide2 as master
1 dvd writer - on id2 as slave
The trouble is that when i have the above setup, the bios takes a long time trying to identify my dvd drives on ide2. It must eventually give up and believe nothing is there. The hd's are fine, just no dvd drives. Now if i unplug the slave drive on ide2, the master drive works fine. I haven't tried putting the slave dvd as a master yet but i'll try that as the first thing when i get back. Is it possible to something blow a drive or ground it to my case? Something stupid like that?

How do i boot from dvd on dell dimension 4600 i dont see dvd drive listed on setup or bios. Dell site only gives instructions for booting from cd. Dvd is factory install, thought i should see dvd in setup or bios boot list?

I just purchased a thermaltake blacx. I have placed a wd 1 tb drive in it for the first time. This is a brand new drive that i ordered with the blacx. I am formatting the drive per the instructions on my vista 64 system. It has been formatting for over 2. 5 hours and it is only at 24%. Is this normal?

I've just upgraded to vista home premium 64 and my sony dw-q28a dvd-rw drive is not seen as a burner for cds or dvds. So if i right click on it with a re-writable disk in i do not get an 'erase' option, when i right click on a file there's no 'send to>cd' option and in media player when i click onto the burn tab, it tells me to connect a burner and restart!
This drive worked just fine in xp, then i upraded my motherboard to an asus p5e3 and installed vista and now it doesn't! I seem to have everything setup ok in the bios, i've tried re-plugging the ide & power cables and the drive name is read as sony dvd-rw but it won't function at all as a writer. Any ideas?

Liteon Dvd Drive Can't Read Dvd-rw
Pata liteon atapi dvd a dh20a3p can't read dvd-rw yet it can burn data on to them. It can read dvd-r fine and burn on to them. Is there some software missing needed to read dvd-rw or is my drive just not able to read dvd-rw. Edit:-just updated the firmware and it is still unable to read cd-rw discs.

I just bought hitman on dvd and like half way through the movie it got really skippy and eventually froze to where i had to ctrl alt del media player classic. Now it wont even read game discs and i dont see it under my computer. Is it dead or what?
Btw nothing was overheating while watching it and my cpu was at like 3% load.

I switched off the power and switch and connected my new ide lg and it got connected and i switched on the power and a screen came saying"reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device" i pressed the button on the lg drive and it opened but whats the use, it is working but windows doesn't start, so i restarted the pc and went into bios and my master drive which was set to samsung 80 gb hdd was not detected and my slave drive lg dvd drive was not detected either. Program Load Times
Here's my problem. On most computers, ms office applications such as word or excel load within 15 seconds. Maximum. Usually under about 7 seconds. On my pc, usually (even with no other desktop programs running) most office probgrams will take at least 25 seconds to load. At least, as i said. Then photoshop cs2 comes along - it takes in excess of five minutes to open it, depending on how much other stuff i have open. This is a huge pain. I have a 40gb hard drive which holds windows and all of my programs, leaving about 15gb free, and a 60gb secondary harddrive containing about 45-50gb of documents/music/movies. What i need to know is exactly which component(s) need replacing to fix this problem. I was looking at a new motherboard with a pentium 4 3. 2 ghz, but i'd need a case with that (dell cases will not accept new motherboards) bringing the total cost to about $4-500. I can't afford that right now. So what do you think might offer at least a temporary solution? Any advice would be much appreciated, and if further details are needed feel free to ask.

Usually it took only 5 or 10mins to copy a 4gb dvd onto a harddrive but now it take too long and even copy from one harddrive to another harddrive on the same ide channel still taking forever. It take 3hrs or more to copy 30gb of datas . Then when i monitor the cpu usage . Everytime when i try to copy it cpu usage go up to 100% . No viruses or spyware (i checked it out already) . Everything working fine until yesterday when after visiting a site that threw up a page that started trying to load viruses (which i stopped asap and ran adaware after to clean), the dvd drive suddenly started switching to a cd one when i put in a dvd - and nothings thus getting recognized at all. I've tried sys restore but it says it can't do it (least not the time frame i desire), and i've run all the utilities i can think of but not succeeding easily. Can't find better drivers than what's already loaded to install although no doubt could do so online if i knew what i needed. Running xp sp2, with a liteon dvd/rw drive. Copying Live Image To Hard Drive Takes Too Long
I lost gnome desktop of fc13beta so i have to re-install it on my desktop pc. Did all partitioning and formatting in advance via gparted live cd. I set up a 500 mb boot partition (ext3) for grub, a 14 gb root partition (ext4) and a 15 gb home partition (ext4). During installation, copying live image to the hard drive initially was fast but then the installation seems to stop 3/4 of the way through and everything is now frozen. I am waiting for installation to complete. By the way, i just saw an orange icon on the top bar but i cannot know what it says because the mouse is frozen at the moment. Please help me! Installation of fc used to be easy. This is the third time this evening i am having to re-install fc13 beta.

I just got a usb hard drive and copied some of my large files to it, and noticed it was taking a really long time to finish. Im not sure what kind of throughput im getting but it cant be much. Its taking somewhere around 15 min to copy a 700mb file.

Hard Drive Crash - Pc Stopped For Long Time On Bootup Logo
I have a sony vaio laptop and today when i tried to boot it up it stopped for a really long time on the boot up logo then the screen went black and the words "operating system not found" showed up in the top left hand corner. Can anyone tell me what might be the problem?

Youtube Videos Load Fast And Sometimes Times Slow
Sometimes youtube vids load fast and other times real slow? Is it my internet connection? I noticed that when i watch youtube, sometimes the video loads really fast, as in maybe 20x the speed it plays and other times it loads like 0. 2x the speed it plays. I tried this with 1 video. Every time the same video and sometimes it would load really fast and other times really slow. Is this my internet connection or computer? Or is it youtube itself? When i do a speedtest its still as high as it should be.

Mouse And Keyboard Cut Out At Random Times When Play Games
This just started recently, but when i play warcraft 3 on my computer, my mouse and keyboard cut out at random times for 2-3 seconds and my master volume turns up and down randomly as well. It's really *bleep*ing annoying and i really wish i could find some way to fix it without having to reinstall the game (can't find my cd keys). I've already updated my drivers, restarted multiple times, turned the computer off and walked away for a couple days and nothing.

Toshiba A205 Satellite Laptop Freezes At Random Times
My toshiba a-205 satellite laptop freezes at random times, during start up or whenever it feels? Its about 4 years old, but freezes whenever it feels, during start up or whenever. The barrel looking light (hard-drive light) is always fully lit. It wont make it past the setup screen sometimes i cant even use it half the time unless i manually, by pushing and holding the power button about 5 times, but the freezes once the desktop screen appears. I think it may be a bad hard drive, but before i spend any money id like to be sure.

Required Cd/dvd Driver Missing - Inject Drivers Into Boot.wim, Or Install.wim
Here's my hardware/os:
-Microsoft vista ultimate 64-bit os(purchased separately (brand new & legit), so as to install "fresh" on my:
-Asus p5b-premium vista edition motherbard; (no its not a joke, the board is actually called vista edition)
(With the onboard intel ich8r sata controllers, . And a jmicron jmb363 pata/sata controller)
-Intel quad-core cpu
-(2) rators striped across the ich8r sata controllers
-(1) pioneer "sata" dvr-212d dvd/cd on the jmb363 sata controller. -As a test, i tried an unattended install with my 'ole winxp pro, and by using nlite, and/or editing the winnt. Sif, .configuration text files its fairly easy to have an "unattended" mastered dvd install of (32-bit)winxp pro. , And it works "flawlessly", and freakin fast with the hardware above, and without floppy-drives, usb-flash drivers, . Note: the jmicron-jmb363 sata controller is very buggy, and "slow" in vista-64bit, when you install a cd/dvd in the drive evrything freezes up, usb mouse, . For a few seconds then its ok? However, in winxp pro it all works great!
I'm a newbie at vista ultimate 64, but microsofts' waik, winpe, xml complicated text files seems even more complex, considering, i'm not deploying workstations, i just want to inject the needed sata controller drivers into the appropriate. Vista ultimate 64-bit image file(s) to boot and install from the one dvd. But, it still doesn't want to work (see below site exmples for details)
I have tried the below methods and/or site recommendation to no avail, it seems overly-complex when trying to find consistent information hunting in microsoft sites ?, -The "error" is during the very early install of vista 64-bit, this early pass1 is likely using the "boot. Wim" image files

Dvd Rom Drive, Flash Hard Drive Slowing Data Transfer Speed
Issue a: when i put a cd/dvd into my dvd, the system (my computer/properties) recognizes the hardware, but it will not play. (Drive letter "d". )
Issue b: my computer will not recognize my data (flash?) Cards from my digital camcorder/camera. Issue c: my computer's hard drive (drive letter "c") once accepted my firewire uplink (1333). Now, my nle (pinnacle studio 9 plus) give the error message "drive c is not capable of capturing dv data", meaning it's date transfer rate is too slow. How can i fix these issues? Do i have to buy a new hard drive?

Connect Dvd Drive As External Drive Through Usb Port
I have a sony dvd-rw drive which works fine when plugged directly as an ide drive. I also have an ide-to-usb cable along with an external power supply for ide devices. I want to connect the the dvd-rw drive as an external drive through the usb port. I have windows xp (sp2). When i plug the dvd-rw drive through the usb port, xp complains that "the device cannot be recognized". It shows up in the device manager as an unknown device under usb controllers. I am have a desktop (p4 1. 4ghz, 256mb rd, usb 1. 0) and a laptop (amd turion, 256mb ddr, usb 2. 0)!

Dvd Drive Is Not Reading Any Cd's Or Dvd's
Ok guys for some reason my dvd drive is not reading any cd's or dvd's. This happend right after i installed nero and atempted to burn a dvd, after it stoped responding and i forced shut down the app and then when i started it again and tryed to burn a dvd it kept saying that there was no dvd in the dvd drive when their was. So i'm *** clue less. I have unistalled nero, disabled and enabled the drive, unistalled and reinstalled the drive, check the bios (which detects it as well) and still can not slove this problem. Anyone have any idea of what could be wrong and how to fix it, this is the last place i am turning too to get this fixed. Please.
