Usb Adapter For A 1.8 Pata Drive

I have a dell latitude d420 with a corrupted hard drive. I believe it's a 1. 8 pata drive and it has a ribbon cable connector. At this point all i really want to do is get some of the data off of it and then i will format the disk and re-install the operating system. I am looking for a usb device that will allow me to read the disk as an external usb device. I have one for ide and sata drives and it works great but it's not compatible with the dell 1. 8" drive. A tech guy at a local computer store tell me that he does not think one exists. Does anyone know if there is a usb cable adapter that will support this drive?

Laptop Drive To Usb Adapter

I bought a usb adapter that can go from ide/sata and laptop ide to usb. Everything works great. Except when i hook up the laptop ide drive. It can read/write for about 5 minutes (more like 2), then it shuts down. I'm not sure if it is a power saving feature or what, but it is annoying. I have changed the setting in device manager to "allow the os to shut off device to save power" to disabled with no results. Anyone have a similar experience or solution. Yes, i've googled it many times under different queries with no decent results. I don't think buying a new one would help, as it does work, it's just the power to the hdd stops after a few minutes.

External Usb Floppy Drive Power Adapter

I have an external usb floppy drive that i got some time ago. I need to use it for something but discovered that i have misplaced the ac adapter. The drive is designed to run off the bus unless you connect it to an un-powered hub but it works best with the adapter.considering this, what would the power specs on such an adapter be? I can't get any answers from the manufacturer for some reason (they went out of business and then came back). I seem to remember it being a 12 volt unit but the power draw was closer to an amp then most of the generic adapters you could find at radio shack, etc. I remember the adapter being pretty large.

2.5 Pata Laptop Drive To Portable Drive

I have two 40gb 2. 5" laptop drives, 1 from a dell(fujitsu) and 1 from a hp(hitachi) and i want to use them as additional portable storage since each ones respective laptops are now just doorstops. So, being i wanted to make them portable, i bought a usb case to use, ultra ult31738 to be exact, and no matter what i do, neither one of these hard drives will run when used in this case. They both spin when just connected via usb to usb, and spin even faster when connected via usb to usb along with the additional usb to power in connector that comes with the kit. The only way i have been able to get these drives to load in windows is by way of an adapter card attached to my 3. 5" usb enclosure. Any ideas as to why this is occurring, or how i might make the drives work in the case i bought for them?

How To Make Pata Drive As Hard Drive 0 ?

I got an ecs af1 lite mobo and currently has two pata hard drives (a 40gig and an 80gig for hard drives 0 and 1 respectively), a dvd rom and a burner. My hard drive 0 (40gig) is already failing and was thinking of replacing it with my 80 gig drive and then replace the 80 gig drive with a sata instead of a pata. I got no problems as regards the connections and stuff. What makes me wonder is how could i make the pata drive as my harddrive 0, and make it as my os drive. I always move the documents and settings folder to the other drive which then makes it easier for me to reformat the os drive when it starts to mess up. My question is, do i need to do some settings so i could make the pata drive as hard drive 0? Does pata takes precedence over sata or is it the other way around?

I have read a few forums here and there and always, the discussion is about making the sata drive the os drive. The reason why i want the pata drive to become hard drive 0 is so that the boot loader stays in it and not on the sata drive, and it makes it easier for me to reformat the os drive when needed without having to worry about the boot loader in the other drive.

Scsi To Usb Adapter

A few times now i've been stuck wishing that i had a scsi to usb adapter so i could image or pull data from a scsi drive. Currently, i just throw an old hba in my pc and hook up the drive that way. The drives are always 68 or 80 brings up a few hits and it looks like these were popular years ago, but even then they were very slow and most of the time only had 50 pin connections on them. They seemed to be often used with the old iomega zip and jazz drives and only supported usb 1. 1. I'd like to add one to my recovery kit if possible, but i can't find much info. Thoughts?

Usb Charger Adapter

While in my local staples, pilfering the clearance bin, i found an interesting cell phone /wire connector set which had an adapter cable that looked like it might just fit in my kindle. After buying it for a rip-off price of 50 cents, it turned out to be a perfect fit, and it doubled as a usb -> mini-usb connector too. Basically it is an: usb -> miniusb + power adapter that fits into kindle power adapter slot. The reason why usb -> power adapter is better then charging from usb -> mini-usb is that you don't have to goto usb drive mode (which prevents you from reading), when connecting with mini-usb connector alone. This means you can keep reading while charging your kindle next to your laptop via usb port!

As a bonus, it seems this wire is both plentiful and cheap on ebay (or if you're too lazy you can find it in most office-supply/ electronics stores)

But you can buy them on ebay if you search specifically for:

"Palm zire usb cable". Tons to be had for $4-5 dollars shipped. Make sure you get the zire 72 or tungsten type and not the wrong type of palm cable. Note: though i already scored the belkin version of this cable, i managed to find on ebay a better retractable version for $4. 50:

(Note: still waiting for this one to arrive, but it should fit, and i will update thread if it doesn't fit)

With a retractable version, that means i can charge my kindle anywhere i want, bring a spare charge cable in my pocket to plug into usb, and transfer stuff onto kindle if necessary. This is the specific product i bought for 50 cents (if you want to scrounge around your local staples clearance bins).

Bluetooth V1.2 Compatible Headset And Usb Adapter

I don't know too much about bluetooth. I'd like to get the logitech bluetooth mobile pro headset for talking on skype. I don't know which usb bluetooth adapter to get for it. I'm using windows xp but, it would be nice to get one that's linux compatible too. I'm guessing that the adapter should be bluetooth v1. 2 compatible. What's the diff between v1. 1 and v1. 2?

Usb Adapter To Bypass Audio Port

Some time back, i was for some reason or other using a male-to-female audio plug adapter that went between my headphones into my computer's audio port. Unfortunately this adapter had the quirk that the metal part of the male plug was made of a cylinder and a separate end bit which plugged loosely into the cylinder, and was easily broken off. Sure enough, it broke off - while in the computer's audio port. And there it has remained since, wedged in there, nearly impossible to move. Since the end bit is stuck right in the back of the audio port as it would be in normal usage, but slanted, it actually works almost properly. I can use the cylindrical part of the male adapter plug to touch the back of the end bit, and the right channel of the headphones works fine. If i don't plug the headphones into the adapter quite right, i can get the right channel to be repeated, mono-style, in the left channel of the headphones as well. This is actually a stable and working solution, but i'd like to be able to hear in stereo once again. Solution:

To be able to do that, either i have to get the thinnest, flattest pliers in the world and try to pull the end bit out (the accessible part is a fairly small, theoretically grippable cylinder), or i have to find a way to bypass the audio port, preferably using a usb adapter into which i can plug the headphones directly. This computer isn't exactly a new model so i'm hoping for a cheap but good solution; i've done some researching and such adapters seem to cost $100 or more, which is crazy. I'm hoping for a cheaper bypass. But even with such a part, the computer would need to use the usb port instead of the audio port, and i have no idea how to make that happen. Any suggestions?

Usb Wireless Adapter Wont Connect

I went to a clients house today, he has a windows xp machine running off a cable modem, and a wireless linksys router. I purchased a netgear usb wireless adapter, with excellent range, i installed cd rom software, and can see the wireless router sending off a signal at 65% bouncing to around 40%. When i connect, it either says limited connection or no connectivity. I reset the router, checked the wep password, etc, still cant get it to work. He says another tech came over awhile back and had the same issue and couldn't figure out why they could not get a successful connection. I to am having this trouble and would like to fix it soon! What should i do? Buy an actual router for his dell desktop to connect to the other router? If so will i have the same issue? What type of problems can this be caused by? And what are my options?

Ide / Pata Dvd On A Pc

I am building a new pc that is in a 2u rack mounted case. It's in a small rack that has two routers and two switches hung in it as well. I'm studying for my ccna and wanted a lab that i didn't have to set up and tear down every time i wanted to work with it. The case came with a slot only for a slim dvd and not a full size one. I bought the slim dvd and it's exactly what would go into a laptop. All the illustrations show that the connector is an ide/pata type. I cannot find a cable that will connect this to my mobo's ide or sata connectors. Can anybody tell me how to connect to this drive to either an ide or sata connector?

Sata With Pata Drives

I have been working on this for the past couple of days. The boys over at pronetworks helped get me set up and at least in so i could install windows xp pro and move forward but i have another seagate drive that's a pata (what does the p stand for?). I have a:

Gigabyte ga-8i945p-g socket t (lga 775) intel 945p atx intel motherboard

Intel pentium 4 531 prescott 800mhz fsb lga 775 em64t processor

Seagate barracuda 7200. 9 sata ncq 3gb/s st3160812as 160gb 7200 rpm 8mb cache sata 3. 0gb/s hard drive

And another fairly new seagate pata drive. The trouble, as least for me, is that i am used to regular ide drives. I don't know anything about raid and got this sata drive by accident (didn't read up on that because i didn't know better. Honest mistake but it's working fine and i'm happy. The read issue is there is only one normal ide slot. I have my two optical drives in there (empress dvd writer as master, yamaha cdrw drive as slave) as i use both, the yamaha more than the dvd writer but i need them both available. So there is no other ide channel that will allow me to hook up this other ide connector drive which has all my music and a couple of other very useful partitions on board there. So what do i do?

Is there a converter kit that i can get to hook up the pata drive to make it work through one of the other 3 remaining sata connnectors? That seems like the most elegant solution. Learning raid is not really high on my list but if it's easy enough and it works then i'm open. The bios are quite strange conpared to my other gigabyte board i have in my older computer so it took me a while to figure all that out since most of the intergrated peripherals area deals mostly with ata, raid and sata and making them all work together.

Usb Malfunctions When Connect A D-link Dwl-g122 Wlan Adapter

I'm wondering why the usb malfunctions when i try to connect a d-link dwl-g122 wlan adapter, but works fine when i try to connect a casio digital camera. When the wlan is plugged in, windows gives me the "a usb device cannot be recognised as it has malfunctioned" baloon in the system tray. It's wierd because a couple of hours before it was fine. It's not just affecting a few ports, it's all of them, inclusing the front panel ports. I tried a clean install of windows xp, and that failed.

Pata Hdd Complete Failure

First my new system dies, and then my old system decides to go and kill itself aswell. Ok, this time its an old pata hdd that something went wrong with (i did this to it). What happend? Well, i had a nasty virus and had to get a real "tool" for the job. A program that use dod* method to erase everything from the harddrive. Let's just say something went wrong on the way, and now it's competely unreadable. So i got my hands on some seagate tools, and i really don't have a clue what to do with it. There is something so wrong it can't update the mbr of the drive. Shall i call it even and throw it away, or is there anything i can do?

Ide / Pata Drives Disappear

Recently, i've been having some problems with two of my pata drives; my dvd drive and my 120gb wd drive. It seems like every other cold boot or returning from sleep mode will cause these drives to disappear. I've checked the cabling and it'll get the computer to recognize it again, but then if i cold boot or something immediately after that, they might not show up. Only solution i've read is that there's a problem with those pre-braided pata cables that they can be too long, causing the communication link to be weak. I was already considering getting some pata to sata adapters for my drives and just working with that, but i was wondering if there were any other ideas out there.gonna check my drivers as well, see if there's an update or something.

Hard Drive Adapter

My hard drives are located in such a way that they need a 90 degree adapter for the power connector to meet the hard drive and the side of the case to shut completely. I have the correct sata cables, i bought them specifically with one end have 90 degree angles. But my power supply doesn't have the same angles. And was wondering if there was a connector to put onto the end of the power cable to make it a 90 degree angle so my new power supply will work and i can close the side of my case. Anybody know where i can buy this sort of connector?
