Format Usb Drive In Fat32
Replies: 18 | Post Date: 10-18-2009, 11:58 AM | User: Htwild1 | Forums: hardforum.comI have an external usb enclosure with maxtor hd. I wanted to fornmat it in fat32 to copy mp3 music to use with pioneer vsx919 receiver. First i formatted in exfat (vista) thinking that the receiver would be able to read it but no go. Then i used hp usb format program for flash drive and it formatted only 128 gig, which is fine for my purpose. Plugged back in the main pc to copy the files, the drive was not recognized. What can i do to get it formatted in fat32 and able to copy the files?

Error: There Is No Disk In The Drive - Usb Fat32
I'm working with a usb fat32 type flash drive which is currently blank. I've tried to copy files onto it and it has become somewhat corrupt, displaying the error message "there is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive deviceharddisk1dr2. " I don't know what the problem is. A couple of days ago this piece of equipment was working just fine.

Usb Flash Drive Reformatting From Fat To Fat32
I just bought my first thumb drive. Its a 1 gig corsair. My question is about formating. I noticed that it has been formated from the factory in fat. Why not fat32? Is there any benefit to reformatting from fat to fat32? Or is there any benefit of one over the other?

Usb Drive Not Working After Reformat From Exfat To Fat32
I just purchased a 64gig usb and i was super excited n stuff, well it was working fine but it was an exfat format, obviously since the computeres at my school were windows xp i knew it wouldnt work. So i decided to format it to ntfs but failed miserably, instead i managed to format it to fat32 and it was functioning properly. I wanted to test it before i would attempt to reformat to ntfs so i threw on a movie on there. Half way through the copy process the power cut out, so i left the computer and went to the movies came back, its not working. Windows just says " usb device not recognised". So i tried it on all ports, even on my laptop and didnt work. Ive tried evertthing since, and im desperate to get this thing working, im pretty sure its not a usb port problem because my mouse, printer and everything else works fine.

How To Format Usb Drive That Computer Does Not See?
I just bought a new hdd 2. 5 inch and a new usb case. My computer recognizes that mass storage device, but it does not see the drive. I think that it is because it has not been formatted, does anyone have any suggestions on how to format this drive that the computer does not see?

Format A Vonage Usb Flash Drive
I have a vonage usb flash drive that was our voip phone for a few days. It has a mini headphone jack (the same as a cell phone) on the side for talking with it. I now have a vonage router so we can use our house phone. Much better, but now i want to format the usb drive to remove all vonage info from it. I formatted it but all the vonage stuff is still hidden on it. And it auto loads the phone drivers and stuff every time i plug it in. I tried norton partition magic to do it but it wouldnt recogonize a flash drive. Any ideas on how i can wipe it totally clean? I am gonna use it to soft mod my xbox. And have already made the wire to connect it. It works fine on my xbox. But it still auto loads vonage software and drivers when i put it in my computer.

External Usb Drive Is Taking 6+ Hours To Format
I just got a new fantom 500gb usb drive in today and started the ntfs format about 6 hours ago with vista disk management, disk management just gave me a percentage a minute ago of 33%. I did a long format, not a quick. Edit: it just now went from 33% to 34% so i'm canceling the format, this is pathetic. Edit2: i canceled the format and it's still going, up to 35% now, *** is going on. Edit3: i turned off the power to the drive, then did a quick format and that worked, but now i'm thinking maybe something is wrong with this drive since it took forever to do a full format.

Usb Port Not Working After Format Hard Drive & Reinstall Xp
I am currently usin' an ibm x40 laptop. Things have been workin' fine. Since i had too many craps on my comp, i decided to format my c: to reinstall xp (sp2). However, i was playin' games on my comp last week. My comp encountered a power shortage problem or watever problems along those lines, it rebooted itself all of a sudden. Since then, none of my 2 usb ports are workin'. To further clarify myself, i can tell that the computer detects the devices, includin' mouse, flash key and cd-rom, however, i can access none of these usb devices successfully. I tried to delete all the usb deivers from the device manager and let xp reload them, nothing seems to have changed. And i also checked my bios, usb ports are all enabled. I am wondering what is wrong with my computer. Do u guys have any clues what's goin' on or wat i should try to do to fix my computer.

How To Fix Usb Format Problem?
Well i plugged in my usb and then it turns out to be removable disc :d which is wasn't before because i named it something else. But it was really weird because removable disc signs are usually this grey machine but mine turned out to be a folder before this problem occurred. My usb is a 2gb usb and it's this weirdo brand coz someone gave it to me so i'm not sure wat the brand really is. Um yea so i read other sites about how to fix it but it just won't work. Well the drive appears and i have tried format but i just end up canceling it because i'm scared it will delete the files and i have a title page file in their that i need next week for my assignment. Okay so i tried to change the fat and the allocation size to the normal formatting size and then clicked quick format but is unsuccessful because windows is unable to format it or something like that. I have even tried going to computer and right clicking and go to disk management and tried everything but nothing seems to work. Is there a way that can save my files? Also could you please give me a simple example because i 'm really bad at understanding computer talk. I need a specific explanation.

Slow Format Time For Usb Flash Drives
Ever since i started using vista, one of the big annoyances i've had is the really slow format time for usb flash drives, usb / firewire connected hard drives and flash cards (sd cards, memory sticks, compact flash cards in respective usb card readers). I've been experiencing this on three different pc's running different versions of vista. Pc1 is running vista business w/ sp1. It's a dell w/ a q6600, 2gb of ram and a 320gb sata hard drive. Pc2 is running vista home premium w/ sp1. Has an asus a8n-sli deluxe, athlon 3500+, 2gb of ram and a 120gb sata hard drive. Pc3 is running vista ultimate x64 w/ sp1. Asus p5q-em, q6600, 8gb of ram, 300gb velociraptor + 150gb raptor. I've tried formatting usb flash drives, usb / firewire connected hard drives and flash cards (in usb card readers) on all three pcs. Tried on pc1 and pc2 before and after sp1 was installed and on the 3rd computer only after sp1 was installed. In all cases, formatting these devices takes forever. With pc2 and 3 running windows xp, formatting these devices was extremely fast. In all cases, i did not choose the quick format. Anyone know of a fix for this?

Need To Re-format New 1tb Drive
I just got a new 1tb wd black drive and intend to use it as a non-os gaming/video/etc drive with a smaller os drive (once i can get back into that os drive, transfer it's data, and then reformat it-another thread). Got it oem from newegg - it's been 2 years since i built so i'm rusty - do i need to reformat or prep the drive prior to plugging this sucker in? I was planning on using it as the "dump" to transfer the needed files from my os drive once i get back in. I was just going to plug it in, connect the sata cable and then drag and drop all the needed files over. Once i reformat the smaller os drive, the 1tb will remain as my secondary drive. So what is this old man missing now?

How To Format An Invisible Hard Drive
My computer, one of those shuttle mini's, is getting a little boggy so i figured it's about time to formatt the ol drive and clear those pesky dll's with no place to go out. I did this every year with win95, and 98. I run win xp pro now and this is my first time formatting with it. Here's my problem: i tried to format using the bootable cd (that i own) of xp pro. Following duncans post earlier and those incredibly clear directions (kuddos). I got to the part where it asked which disk/ partitions i would like to use. The box shows 2 partitions but also said no disks found? Checking my bios for the hard drive it says no drives detected? "0's" in every value.contacted the guys who put this computer together and they wont answer my questions. I guess i should have paid for that extended warranty, sign. I cant fathom how my computer works ok and i cant get the bios or the xp formatting tool to see the hard drive. Note: i disabled the sata/raid in the bios and the computer wont boot. Or it will boot through the post then ask for a bootable cd: i didnt go any farther and returned the settings to enable. I only have the one hard drive so i thought disabling the sata/raid in the bios would be a way to avoid seeing that during the post. I'm thinking there is a way/ technique to install a hard drive and not have it show up anywhere. I've asked around to all my friends who know a lot more than i but they all say they know of no way to do this. It does show up in "my computer", it's not like i cant access the info on it or anything like that. I just cant format the darned thing. Can anybody shed some light on this so i can format my hard drive.

Well, i slept on it and i think i could redo my question, basically, i just want to wipe the drive clean and not give it a filesysetm, no fat or ntfs, just blank so that ubuntu could make one on its own.

Do I Have To Format A New Hard Drive Before Installing Vista 64 ?
I just installed a new wd 1tb black hard drive into a new system. I installed vista 64 without doing any type of format. Was i supposed to format the drive before installing the os?
Or does it automatically use ntfs?
Just want to find out right away so i can redo it if necessary.

How Long To Format A 1tb Drive In Blacx ?
I just purchased a thermaltake blacx. I have placed a wd 1 tb drive in it for the first time. This is a brand new drive that i ordered with the blacx. I am formatting the drive per the instructions on my vista 64 system. It has been formatting for over 2. 5 hours and it is only at 24%. Is this normal?

Unable To Format Ide Hard Drive
Apart from my 80 gb sata hard drive, i was having an additional 40 gb ide hard drive. I was storing some data in it without any problem. Today i had to remove ide cable from my ide hard drive because i had to switch over one my cd drives. And after reconnecting the ide cable and booting up the pc, the hard drive labels got changes from (g) and (h) drive to (i) and (j) drive. My sata drive's labels are (c). (D) and (e). This sata drive's didn't get changed, and only ide drive's got changed and i guess its because of my cd and dvd drive were allocated g and h label's. And now the problem is, i am not able to access i and j drives. Its saying. The disk in drive i is not formatted. Do you want to format it now ? I don't mind losing the data, but even i am not able to format as its saying. Windows was unable to complete the format. I also tried to open up a dos command prompt and tried doing "format i:" and it said. The type of the file system is raw. Please use the /fs switch to specify the file system
You wish to use on this volume. One of the person suggested to do the following. If you are running xp pro, you can click start, control panel, admin. Tools, computer management, and then disk management on the left. Maximize the screen, and you can see all of your drives, partitions, and perform formats if you so desire. And when i did as above, there were 2 drives other than c, d, f, i, j which were not having any volume with status as healthy(unknown partition) and with capacity 18. 66 and 926 mb. The above 2 were from sata drive and were not assigned any partitions i think. Any idea how to assign a partition(i mean volume label) so that i can use this too ?
And coming back to my ide drive, i and j are shown under disk 0 which is the ide hard drive and c, d, f and those 2 unassigned partitions are shown under disk 1 which is the sata hard drive. So when i right clicked on i drive and formatted. After 100% of formatting is completed in say 5 mins time, it said "the formatting cannot be completed successfully"
Please how to solve this ?

How Can I Format Pen Drive Drive?
How can i format my pen drive drive?, I am so worried abt my pen-drive. I have a pen-drive of 2 gb which was working good and fine till some minutes ago. I have 2 operating system, i.e, ubuntu 9. 10 and windows 7. What happened is that, logged on to ubuntu 9. 10 and started to do some experiments(i am not good at linux), i had got a minipentoo's iso and there was a procedure to install it in pen drive, so i carried out without more knowledge. I typed some commands like fdisk /dev/sdc and then
D (delete the partitions you might have)
N (new)
P (primary)
1 (number 1)
Choose the size you want. A (bootable flag)
1 (number 1)
Do it the size you want 1 gb is enough, the whole is better
W (write)
I even tried this:
Mkfs. Ext2 /dev/sdc1
But it went to saying error after first or second chance. And then i gave up, and i also remember i went to the disk utility and deleted the partition of the disk. So i messed up a lot. Finally, giving up my work i am logged on to windows just to find my pen drive is not working , first it proposed to format and i agreed but the formatting was-unsuccessful, it said that it "the specified cluster size is too big for fat", and clearly it made no sense to me. Can u help me how to format my pen drive right from the bottom and have it to use, it has no physical drawback, it is so fine and i also do not agree that the pen drive is gone, it is just messed up and i don't have the idea to get it back.

Western Digital Hard Drive Partition And Format
I have a western digital caviar 11200 i'm trying to partition and format but having problems. Actually i have 3 old drives that i'm cleaning up and going to sell, 2 worked fine but not the wd drive. After putting it in i boot up the computer and it detects the wd drive as the 1st drive and dvd drive as the 3rd and cdrw as the 4th. It doesn't detect my 40gig drive at all. When doing the other 2 drives it would detect my 40gig hard drive as the 1st and the other drive as 2nd. I have tried all the jumper settings, master, slave and single. Nothing works. What am i doing wrong? Is there anything else i should try. I know this drive works because it was taken out of a working machine 2 weeks ago.
