Connecting Sata Drive And Backup Current Drive

My motherboard is k8t neo2 series atx mainboard and i am having 80 gb sata hard drive. There are 2 sata ports (sata1 and sata2) and my current hard drive is connected to sata2 port. I want to backup my existing hard drive (mirror image) into a new sata hard drive using ghost or any other imaging application. So i can connect my new hard drive into sata1 port and will it work? After connecting my new hard drive paralleled into sata1 and booting windows from my old hard drive, will the new hard drive be recognized? Should i need to format my hard drive and then use ghost application or directly i can use?

How To Backup A Sata Drive With An Os On It Out Of Another Pc ?

My cousin has a 250gb wd sata drive from his old comp and he wants me to back-up all the itunes music he paid for. It was in his old comp, but the motherboard blew out on him so he brought the drive over today to see what we can do with it. Am i going to have to pick-up something like a sata to usb adapter, or is there another option?

Connecting A Second Sata Hard Drive

Currently there is a sata hard drive that is connected to sata1 on the motherboard. We want to install another sata hard drive. The motherboard has ports for 6 sata drives. My question is does it have to be hooked up to sata2 on the motherboard or can it be hooked up to sata4 or sata6 motherboard ports or any of the other ports?

Our problem is that there is a very tight fit between the sata motherboard ports and the side of the hard drive cage. When i built the computer for my grandson i had a hard time getting the 90 degree sata plug installed or pushed on to the motherboard sata1 port and right now it is not possible to use motherboard sata2 port without removing the 90 degree plug from sata1 port and try to use a straight plug on the sata1 port and the 90 degree plug on the sata2 plug. It is my opinion that it would be nearly impossible to install a straight plug because of so little space. My only other option would be is to go to a larger sata hard drive. The purpoase of the second hard drive is to install windows vista on it instead of on the same drive as windows xp. Motherboard: asus p5n32-e sli

Backup To Internal Ide Drive Or External Drive ?

My asus p5b-3 mobo has internal connections for 2 sata drives and 1 pata drive. I currently have a wd 74 gb raptor (sata) used for os and programs, a samsung 320 gb (sata) for data, and a 300 gb seagate (ide) for backup. The seagate is just about full so i'm looking to replace it. The biggest internal ide drive i see on newegg is a wd caviar blue 500 gb drive. (3 year warranty) ~ $88 w/shipping. The external drives go well beyond what i need in terms of storage capacity. But i am concerned about heat failure issues. I've had problems with drives in an external enclosure fail before. Which i think was related to heat issues. But that was a 3. 5" drive in an external enclosure. Perhaps the 2. 5" drives connected by usb/firewire do not run so warm. I don't know. My p5b-e mobo has an external firewire port. From a performance and durability perspective, would i be better served by an internal ide drive or an external usb or firewire drive? Maybe a 2. 5" laptop drive in an external enclosure? I think that would run cooler than a 3. 5" drive in an external enclosure. Or maybe a wd passport type drive? I would also like to have more than 1 year warranty too. I'd prefer to stay in the vicinity of $100 +/-. What do you suggest for a 500 gb to 1 tb storage drive? I backup several computers to it with drives ranging from 60 gb to 320 gb. It's taken me about 3 years to load up the 300 gb seagate. So i'm comfy with 500gb to 1 tb for the next few years.

Best Way To Backup An Entire Hard Drive ?

So up till now i've been backing up everything on my hard drives by simply copying new files, file by file to another hard drive at the end of every week and replacing any file that has been updated since the last backup. This is getting ridiculously repetitive however, so i was wondering if there was any better way to do this. I've tried using acronis in the past but i don't really like the way it compresses everything into a single acronis accessible only file. Is there any program that will backup data (and also update files if they are changed since the last backup) automatically without any form of compression?

Which 1.5tb Drive To Get For Data Backup ?

I'd like to get either the seagate or wd green 1. 5tb drives for backup, but both have bad ratings. Have the seagates really improved in quality? I already have a few wd10eads drives and am very happy with them, so i'd prefer the wd15eads esp since it'll run cooler and speed is not an issue. But that has even worse ratings than the seagate, and its more $$ as well.

Xp Install Wont Recognize My Backup External Hard Drive

I know i have to assign the external hard drive a drive letter but i don't know how to do it without formatting the drive. I obviously don't want to format the drive because it has all of my backup information from my old hard drive. The hdd is a western digital oem 320gb ide put into an external enclosure. The external enclosure worked perfect on old computer, but it was formatted on it. When i turn on the hdd my computer recognizes it as a usb mas storage device, it just doesn't assign it a drive letter. When i run western digital's data lifeguard tools it wants to set up the drive and make it additional storage, but it also must partition and format the drive before it can do so. For some reason i assumed this would be easy, i almost feel like im taking crazy pills. When i go into windows disk management all i can do is partition and format the drive, maybe im missing something.

Raid Drive Failure, Can't Get Backup Image To Work

Having trouble getting my backup cloned drive to work. I initially had a raid setup: two wd 250gig sata in raid 0, one drive started to go nuts, i luckily was able to make a backup image to a single wd 640gig sata. The raid was from the motherboard controller epox ep-8k9a7i. I unplugged the two 250gig drives then proceeded to plug in the single 640gig, the mobo controller recognizes the drive, but it wont boot into windows. I then did a successful boot sector rebuild in the xp recovery console on the 640gig drive, still no go. I used driveimage xml from the raid0 windows install for the clone process to the 640gig, would this be causing a bad clone? What programs might others suggest i use? Am i missing something? Could use a few more ideas to get this backup drive to boot!

So i installed pci adaptec serial ata raid 1210sa card with one 80gb sata drive. Now i need test the speed of the sata drive verses ide drive. Is there any software that will test the speed of both sata drive and ide drive?

External Hdd, Sata Or Usb For Backup

Situation;
Three pc's; two towers (both w/ two hdd's) and one laptop (not used often), not alot of data, but instead of using dvd's to backup, this seems easier, one device for all three would be nice, though the laptop i could live without, it would be used mainly for my main box (tower). Questions;
1. If i went with a usb interface, can i assume the ps is external?

2. Can i then assume most are those damn 'bricks' as opposed to internal ps's within the hdd enclosure?

3. Are there any models w/ internal ps's, or at least a ps that is on a cable so it isn't hanging from the power strip?

4. Between the all in one (hdd, enclosure & ps) vs buying the enclosure, ps and the hdd separately, what's the better route?

5. If i went with a sata drive, are there any enclosures that are tailored to this setup?

6. The cabling from the pc to the unit. Make shift or use a premade pci slot plate w/ connectors (assuming they are available)?

Internal Sata Blu Ray Drive Plugged Into Sata

Alright, i'll make this short and sweet. I want to free one of my sata ports up so i can install another hard drive. My motherboard has a built in esata port on the back. Is it as simple as moving my blu ray sata cable to the esata jack on the back? Aesthetics mean nothing, this computer is hidden.

Connecting Slave Drive Without Spare Connector

How to connect a slave drive when there's no spare connector on the hard drive cable? My motherboard has 3 ide channel/ports. One is for the floppy disk, the other for the cd drive and the 3rd one is for the hard drive. I plan on upgrading my hard disk, and i plan on cloning my old drive. For this i need to install the new drive as a slave drive. However on recent inspection i've noticed that the cable connecting my hard drive cable to the ide port has no extra connector where the slave hard drive can be connected. However on the cd drive cable there is a spare connector. Am i supposed to get a new cable with a spare connector for my hard drive cable, or can i place the slave hard drive on the spare connector for the cd cable. Random q: can the ide cable experience esd damage?

Sata Cd / Dvd Drive

So i have been surfing around the web trying to find a cd/dvd drive that has tabs on the tray so a disc could stay in place when being loaded vertically or at a angle. If some one could direct me to a company still putting tabs on their trays that would be a huge help to me.

Sata Drive Trouble

I got a diamond maxtor 10 sata drive 250g with 16mb cache. Hooked it up to my msi ms7093 board with no issues and installed xp without a hitch. After that ran some stuff evrything seemed ok. Now i zeroed the drive in prep for copying my partitons from my old seagate drive, after zeroing it it no longers except partitioning or formatting very well. I ran the utlities disc from maxtors website and it spat out a drive error code and then states the drive is in imminent failure save your files while you can type scenerio. This is a refurb so should i rma it or try some other sofware like partition magic to fix it.

Sata Cd Rom Drive

Anyone here using a sata cdrom drive in their system here? I got 1 on order, and was hoping you were able to install winxp using it? I did this only to finally get rid of my last ide cable in my case. It will be connected to the intel ich8r controller so no drivers need to be loaded, so i cant foresee a problem, but wanted to ask anyways.

Ghosting To New Sata Drive

I have finally got around to buying a sata hard drive, which i want to use as my main system drive. As my avatar caption suggests, i am lazy and don't like doing work which isn't necessary, and that includes having to install windows on the new drive. I'm kind of happy with the way my xp install is running at the moment too, and have loads of stuff installed, plus little reg tweaks etc which it would take me ages to repeat on a fresh install. I thought i'd just ghost the existing install onto the new drive, as the new drive is detected in windows and has been formatted. Only problem is, when i run ghost (from boot disk) with the sata drive connected, it hangs. So does anyone know a way around this, or a different imaging util which would work?

Sata Drive Under $100

My current win7 system is running off of a 320gb ata100 drive because all my sata drives are in my whs system. I now want to move my os drive to a faster sata drive, but i don't know which would be best. Speed is my main concern then storage size. I would prefer at least another 320gb drive but i can go somewhat smaller if necessary. My budget is under $100 but the cheaper the better.

Cannot See External Sata Drive Anywhere

I have a ide boot drive, along with another ide storage drive currently. I just picked up wd sata 250gb along with a ritmo external box, with the idea to use this as an external storage device. My motherboard supports sata, although i'm not sure if it is relevant as i am using usb. I have connected the sata cable and the power supply, within the external box and have connected the usb cable to both computer and box. The problem is that i cannot see the sata drive anywhere. I have searched in explorer, computer management etc and i cant find it anywhere so i cant format it or even assign it a letter. When i check device manager it appears to be connected cos i can see 'usb mass storage' under the usb section and it says that is working properly, but i cannot find it anywhere else to use it. I have also looked at the wd data life guard tools and can also see the drive in that, but when i go to set it up it formats with a size of 0kb's and no option to use it's full size. Does anyone have any suggestion's as to how i go about setting this up.

Dead Sata Drive

I shutdown my machine the other night and thinking it had completed the shutdown, i turned the mains power off but alas i was wrong. The machine was powered up later that day and it gets past post but goes no further. No error message, just a black screen. Looking in the bios, my drive is no longer listed and cannot be auto detected (but as it is a sata drive, does it appear anyway?)

When the pc is booting, it brings up the raid screen which says my drive is present, and names it together with its capacity. I tried to do an xp fix or reinstall and it tells me that no hdd is connected to my pc. I have reinstalled the tp raid driver to see if this cures it, but to no avail. Short of getting a new drive, connecting it, reinstalling windows and attempting to do a data recovery, is there anything i can do? Im not concerned about the software on the disk, but it does contain thousands of photos of my kids as babies which i do not want to lose.
