Wired Connection Same Ip Issue
Replies: 3 | Post Date: 2 months ago | User: Gwen | Forums: answers.yahoo.comI had been using a wired connection on one computer and a wireless on the other to my router for a long time. Then one day the wired one quit working. We got a new modem and it still didn't work(tried many wires as well). So we just connected both of them wireless. The problem is that now i disconnect quite often so my computer isn't good for much more then surfing the web. I tried changing channels, but that didn't work so i was going to try a wired connection to my computer(the one that has never used wired). I plugged it in and it worked for a brief period of time then disconnected me, and i was never able to get it back. I also got a message a few times saying that i have the same ip as the other computer when i was plugged into the wired and tried some of the repair connection functions. How can i either fix the wired connection or stop the wireless from disconnecting?

Adding Wireless To A Wired Network
Can anyone recommend me a cheap device that i can connect my netgear dg834 to in order to share the adsl connection it currently shares to a wired network, to a wireless one. Back story is i'm trying to connect the wii to the internet and have had no success so far trying the following;
Internet -> dg834 -> xp pro machine (ethernet onboard lan) -> wireless pci card in pc -> wii
So apart from the £30-40 access points, do i have another option?

Connect Hub Wirelessly Or Wired
Is it possible to connect a hub wirelessly or does it need to be wired (ethernet cable)?
Answer:-
If your referring to a hacked hub to connect wireless to another hub, then it all depends on what make/model of the hub you have. The linksys wrt56 is a wifi hub that can be hacked to put a custom firmware called dd-wrt or tomato firmware, with it you can use it as a wireless bridge and attached that wirelessly from point a to point b without a cable. This will allow you to "bridge" between wifi hubs. Some vendor sells a game bridge that does the same function but it's expensive.

Suggestions On A Wired, Optical, Usb Mouse
Does anyone have any suggestions on a wired, optical, usb mouse which is sturdy and will last a long time? I want to get one as a present for my roommate, but he has a tendency to slam either his keyboard or mouse when he gets owned in call of duty. His current mouse already clicks quite badly and it's also a wireless which means it eats a ton of batteries, which he doesn't like. So it has to be optical and wired and usb (his ps/2 port for mouse seems to not work), and as damage-resistant as possible! Oh yeah, also something not really expensive. Any ideas?

Classic Wired Keyboard With Strait Layout
I'm looking for a membrane type keyboard with a resistance similar to what was common on a mid 90's cheap keyboard (i'm actually still using the 12yo keyboard from a whitebox 486). I don't want a spring type keyboard, but niether do i want something as mushy as a laptop or the ms/logitech models that are the only ones i can try at local boxmarts. My only other absolute requirement is a classic strait layout with the insert-page down keys are layed out in 2 rows of 3 (not 3 of 2, or a laptop style column). I'd strongly prefer a wired model for security reasons, and could care less about a string of multimedia buttons although as long as they don't take up alot of space i don't really care if they're there gathering dust.

Suggestions On Wireless Or Wired Keyboard / Mouse
I'm still deciding whether or not i would want a wireless setup. I've had a love/hate relationship with them. Anyway, should i go for the clutter with wired keyboard/mouse? What would you suggest?
Or should i go for the wireless components? If i do, i'd like some sort of recharger for them. What would you suggest?

Wired Slim Keyboard With Standard Layout
I'd like a wired slim keyboard with standard layout. None of that "compact" bs that would make me hit the wrong key because its not where it usually is. Can anyone recommend a good replacement for me? I saw a couple i liked at fry's but couldnt justify spending 50$ for a keyboard today. I may have to eventually though if there arent any good suggestions.

Plug Into Existing Wired / Wireless Network
Basically, i have never been able to connect my work computer wirelessly to a private, wep-enabled wireless network. I can connect wirelessly to just about any hotel connection, but not to my roommates/landlords home network or anyone else's for that matter. I have called my work tech support people, the cable people and the mac airport people, and after literally months of trying they have basically told me i'm sol and need to find a way to connect directly into the router. Which will mean running long cables from my roommate's room into mine. I'm ok with that, let's hope my roommate is as well. I'm not sure of the best way to make a wired connection and would greatly appreciate any advice. Here's the current setup:
1. Earthlink is the service provider
2. This is a cable modem connection
3. I'm running windows xp professional
4. Cable modem hooks up into the wireless router, located in my roommate's room. Only has a single ethernet cord output, currently plugged into the wireless router. 5. Wireless router is an older mac airport extreme that broadcasts to everyone else in the house just fine. Only has one ethernet cord output that is currently connected to my roommate's computer. Also looks like it has a usb port. 6. Roommate must have a wired connection
7. Two other roommates must have wireless connections
8. I need a wired connection, in a different room
9. None of us are interested in hooking our computers up to each other - we all simply want independent internet access
10. My roommates are never home at the same time i am, so i have to fly solo as much as i can on this one. 11. When the roommate is gone i can use her internet connection just fine. 12. I can't find a usb cord to test whether the usb connection works. Ok, with that being said. I don't think my landlord is willing to change wireless routers to a new one with more wired outputs (am i even saying that right?). From some basic research i *think* i could somehow add a second router / hub / some kind of switch into the current setup, run a long cable (either ethernet or usb) from roommate's room into mine, and be all set. If that's correct, what should i use to expand the number of ports? What should i connect to what?

Open Source Firmware For Wired Routers
I was interested in putting an open-source firmware into my router, but it seems all the major projects like openwrt and dd-wrt are for wireless routers whereas my router is wired-only. Does anyone know of an open source firmware for wired routers, or if these other projects can do wired-only? My router is a linkskey lkr-604.

Issue With Dhcp Connection Wireless Connection Drop
I don't know why i keep getting this error message in the log for dhcp , it annoys a lot as it disconnects the wifi then reconnects and continues to do so for a few minutes. The ip address lease 192. 168. 1. 7 for the network card with network address 0xxxxxxxxxxxxx has been denied by the dhcp server 0. 0. 0. 0 (the dhcp server sent a dhcpnack message). I know there is an issue as the dhcp server should be 192. 168. 1. 1, it goes normal as in the log it shows that it gets the i. P from the correct dhcp but when the error happens it shows the dhcp server as to 0. 0. 0. 0. My wireless card is an atheros ar9285, my pc is a hp pavillion dv 7-3162nr laptop

Connection Problem
I have a three pc lan set up going through an ethernet router, with a 2mb internet connection i can run happily to the net for what i timed as a three hour connection for now, but as soon as an application sharing utility is run, or a connection to a file sharing network is established i have the internet cut off, i have check the router - and i found it was fine, i can speak to the other pc's fine, but the modem loses its connection tot eh outside world. Is there any thoughts on what could be causing this?
I have worked this out about 2 years ago and had it working fine, until i introduced the third machine to the network, i have since had to re-network it all to even get it to recognise the net at all, and the other machines. Having redone the network i have spent all of today waiting the time to see how long i would stay connected, on avergae i get 10-15 minutes with file sharing done, sometimes 5 minutes only, even now i am having to disconnect the plug and replug it back in to effectively reset the cable modem.

Having redone the network i have spent all of today waiting the time to see how long i would stay connected, on avergae i get 10-15 minutes with file sharing done, sometimes 5 minutes only, even now i am having to disconnect the plug and replug it back in to effectively reset the cable modem.

How To Sure Someone Is Not Using My Wireless Connection ?
How can i be sure someone is not using my wireless connection? Recently my internet has been running really slow (my computer speed is fine). I can just imagine some weirdo neighbor sat at home watching goat *** through my wireless connection (perhaps slightly too graphic, i know). Anyway, i need some tips on how to find out if anyone is using my connection and how i can prevent them from doing so. I am using windows vista and have a netgear wireless adapter wpa.
