Get Data Off A Raid 1 Drive

I have a raid 1 set up with the onboard via vt6410 ide raid controller of my asus p4p800 deluxe mobo. Sadly, i think the mobo is dead (might be the cpu . Not sure). In any case, i can't access the data on my drives with this pc. The question is, how do i get the data off my drive?

Would it be possible to just plug one of the raid 1 drives into another pc ide port as a slave, and access the data? (My guess is i can't, but want to make sure there's not a really simple solution here. )

If this won't work, can i buy a different raid controller, install it into another computer, plug my two drives into this controller as a slave, have it recognize that the drives are already in a raid 1 configuration, and allow me to remove the data?

Does the raid controller need to be the exact same as the original (this would suck b/c as i mentioned, it was the onboard controller of a long since discontinued mobo). Is there any way to determine which raid controllers would be compatible with my raid 1 drives?

What Happens To Raid Drive Data If Mobo Replace?

Let's say i have a raid 5 or 10 setup and the motherboard dies. Let's also say that the motherboard model is no longer made and i can't get another one. What happens when i replace the motherboard with another brand or model? Will the data stay intact when everything is hooked up again?

Do i need anything else for the data drives? Or can i use the connections on my motherboard? What do i look for when buying a raid controller? Can anyone recommend one?

Ahci Ssd Os And Raid 1 Data Drives P6td Setup

Not sure how this would be configured in the bios or whether it can be done. Requirements: os drive must support trim

Question: how should the bios be configured to support this arrangement. Enable ahci in the bios? Or should it be set to raid? If set to raid does the trim/ahci functionality in windows 7 still work for the ssd drive? If it is set to ahci can i set up a raid data drive?

P6td deluxe (asus) board. 80gig intel ssd x-25 g2
2 x 1 tb segate sata drives
Sata lg dvd burner

Would like the ssd for c:(os)
And the 2 segate drives as mirrored data drives.

Dvd Rom Drive, Flash Hard Drive Slowing Data Transfer Speed

Issue a: when i put a cd/dvd into my dvd, the system (my computer/properties) recognizes the hardware, but it will not play. (Drive letter "d". )

Issue b: my computer will not recognize my data (flash?) Cards from my digital camcorder/camera. Issue c: my computer's hard drive (drive letter "c") once accepted my firewire uplink (1333). Now, my nle (pinnacle studio 9 plus) give the error message "drive c is not capable of capturing dv data", meaning it's date transfer rate is too slow. How can i fix these issues? Do i have to buy a new hard drive?

Program For Copy All Data Off Old Drive Onto New Drive

So i'm in the market for a new drive and i was wondering is there a program that would allow me to copy all the data off my old drive on to my new one? I need more space but i really don't feel like re-installing me os, updating all my drivers again, installing all my games again, and transferring all my music, movies and pictures to my new hard drive. So does anyone know of a program that would do this? Or if this is even possible?

Partition A Drive With Data On It

I need to install windows on a drive that already has a significant amount of data on it. I don't have access to any other computers so using partitioning software is not an option. Can i safely create a second partition for windows through the windows setup without harming the data already on the drive? If i can't, is the only option to get a new hard drive for the os?

How Much Data Can You Put On A Drive ?

Is there a limit on how much data can be placed on a 20gb, 80 gb, 120 gb, etc. Drive. In other words do you need to have a certain amount of space (say 5 gb or percentage) available. Also does this apply to both a drive that contains an operating system and a drive that only contains data?

Repair Drive - Recover The Data

I have a 20gig hd with two partitions one 5gig for os and the other 15gig for data and programs etc. The other day i turned my machine on and the d: drive (15gig partition) was missing. It just didnt show the partition at all. Now somehow i managed to get it to display the partition but every time you go to open the drive it says it isnt formatted and needs to be. Now i am not sure what has happened but i am guessing it has got something to do with the file system. I am sure that the pc hasnt wiped all the data of my drive so it should be recoverable, i just would like to know if anyone knows how to solve the problem or if there are any programs available that will help repair te drive/recover the data.

I have a big problem. I accidentally formatted and reinstalled windows vista on my wife's laptop and lost all of her data. I was able to get the most important data back (55gb), using getdataback, however, when i go to open any of the files, they are all corrupt. Is there any program i can use to fix these files?

Delete Data From Hard Drive

I have to rma a drive back to western digital. It is still functional so i would like to wipe the thing clean of data first. What do you guys recommend for doing such a thing? I would prefer a windows based solution. I would hook the drive up to a working pc as a second drive and go from there. I don't really want to make a boot disk and go that route. Any suggestions?

Which 1.5tb Drive To Get For Data Backup ?

I'd like to get either the seagate or wd green 1. 5tb drives for backup, but both have bad ratings. Have the seagates really improved in quality? I already have a few wd10eads drives and am very happy with them, so i'd prefer the wd15eads esp since it'll run cooler and speed is not an issue. But that has even worse ratings than the seagate, and its more $$ as well.

1tb - 2tb Data Drive

I was planning on getting a new 1-2tb storage drive for my next build (primary will be a ssd). 1tb should be enough, but i am willing to spend more for a 1. 5 or 2tb if it makes sense. Assuming the ssd may only be an 80gb, i will be running some games off the storage drive, so i would like some performance. I'm really not too familiar of the world outside of wd, as i have been burned by almost every other companies, but am willing to listen. Right now, i'm planning on getting the wd1001fals for ~$100. Is there a better option? It doesn't have to be silent, but i don't want it sitting down there rattling either. http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=n82e16822136284

Any other recommendations?

I need help to retrieve the data from my western digital hard drive (40g). Last week my power supply burnt and damaged my mother board. So i tested with another existing system unit with my wd hard drive, it hang in the bios stage after the memory test finish. Cannot do anything. Is it the hard drive problem? Data Recovery Of A Hard Drive Partition In Two

My drive is partition into 2. A drive c for my xp systems and a d for files. Windows xp doesnt work anymore on the c drive partition and all it does is just keep on going to the windows screen and then restart and will not get pass it. I have installed a second sata drive in my pc and installed xp on it. Now when i connect both drives in my pc including the faulty one, it just does the same thing again with the restarts looping and will not load the working xp thats loaded onto my other sata drive. Is that because they both have the c drive letter on both of them and the xp operating systems?

Is there any way of telling the pc to load the second sata drive with the working xp and disregard the faulty one with a c drive letter partition. All i want is for the pc to see the faulty drive as just another drive with files in there and an xp operating system in there. I am thinking of just getting a usb sata external case tomorrow and put the faulty sata drive in there and connect it to my pc hoping it will not recognise the c drive letter and operating system in there and just copy the files from it.

What Can Be Causing Hard Drive Data Corruption ?

Ok, i know my question could have a thousand possible answers (searching the forums, it appears so), but iím really stumped here. My hard drive keeps getting "data corruption errors" where it has "one or more unrecoverable problems" according to chkdsk /r. I donít know why my wd 160gb 1600js sata hard drive gets this problem. I am unable to properly boot into windows, and if i am able, programs open really slowly. Any ideas what could be the problem? It happened a few weeks ago, and i reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled everything (with the help of another hard drive with windows on it). Now, it happened again. The data corrupt issues started when i bought the ocz stealth xstream psu to replace a high-pitch whine antec psu. But according to the bios, the rail readings appear to be ok and nothing is overclocked, its just an office-use machine. One more thing, i didnít install the nvidia ide drivers (i still remember the horrors from when i had the nf2).

Hard Drive Problem - Data Recovery

I got a harddrive here that's running windows 98 and while you try and boot in it's just fatal error after fatal error. . Vxd's .dlls, mass blue screens and just ends in a freeze up eventually. I'd give the names of the files thats giving errors but it's literally different ones every time. I tried to get into the os from safe mode and it returned a himem.sys error. I figured the ram might be bad but it's good so i copied himem.sys from the 98 cd into windows directory in dos, but still getting the same error. I'm at a loss for what to do now and suppose the only thing i can do is try and recover the data and wipe the harddrive. I was wondering if perhaps i could connect the harddrive to my windows xp machine and salvage the data through there or if anyone has tips on how i could go about this i'd be most thankful.

Reading Data Is So Slow On Sata Drive

I have this 1tb wd green drive in an external usb 2. 0/esata enclosure w/fan cooling (antec) . Drive has been working fine for a few months until the last week. I can save data to it at normal speed but reading data off is so slow i thought it was toast. The transfer speed for a read is actually 5kbytes/second. Yes 5 k bytes like an ancient modem you might have laying around. It performs the same in another enclosure and even on a sata port, so its not the enclosure. The drive is about half full so i'm still in the painful process of moving all the data off. I guess 5k/s is better than 0. Anyone seen this behavior before? Must be some fallback safe mode. I'll check it with a tool after i get the data off, maybe it can be fixed.

Sensitive Data On Failed Drive, Rma ?

I recently had a 1. 5 tb seagate drive fail on me (shocking), and luckily all the data was backed up (at least once). This drive had all kinds of sensitive information on it, but now refuses to even spin up. I'm trying to decide if its worth sending the drive in for the warranty-replacement if doing so potentially puts my sensitive data at risk. Does anyone know if seagate (or anyone else for that matter) does anything to look at these drives when you send them in, or if they don't work they just get recycled?

Preserving Data While Formatting External Hard Drive

I recently purchased a new ps3 and would like to transfer some audio and video files to it from my external hard drive. I ran into a problem, however, in that my hard drive is formatted in ntfs and the ps3 can only read fat32. I have about 260 of 300 gb filled, and not enough space on my pc to hold the files while i reformat my external. Is there any simple way for me to somehow format the hard drive in fat32 and still be able to restore all the data that's on it afterward?

Ive considered using mozy to temporarily and cheaply store my files on-line while i reformat, but worry both about reliability and the time it would take to backup and restore such a large amount of data. While doing research i've read recommendations for the use of programs like partition magic in similar situations, but i have no knowledge regarding such things and don't know if i'd be able to shrink the partition enough for it to fit in the small amount of free space that is available. Would my best bet be to try to temporarily get my hands on another external hard drive to hold all of the data while i reformat?
