Pc Takes A Long Time To Boot Up
First: it takes from 20 minutes to 2 hours to boot up, i don't see anything in the monitor, but the fan in the power supply spins and the fan at top of the processor also works, only the red light of the hard disk turns on. I have tried with another hard disk that works fine in another pc, and it's the same, it takes forever to boot up. I have replace the power supply from 250 to 450 and i still have that problem. Second: after waiting that long for the pc to boot up, the cpu clock speed reads 733 mhz instead of 1700. I reset the jumper in the motherboard, to get the correct speed, but i have to do this everytime the computer has been off for a while. Are the two problems related? Is the motherboard bad? Once the pc boot ups, it works fine.

Excessive Computer Boot Time
I'm a certified computer technician. I'm working on my pals computer, and for the life of me i have never had such an slow boot. I did disk cleanup, followed by a defrag (which took almost a full day). In the four or so years this computer has existed i don't think it has once been defraged or cleaned up but anyways i also went into msconfig and got rid of all startup processed except the ones necessary for startup (obviously). This is a duo core (1. 66 per core) computer with 1gb ram. I figure it may be the ram however, i just checking here to see if anyone else has any ideas how i could speed up the boot, the bios is default, everything checks out okay. So disk cleanup followed by defrag and then msconfig. What did i miss? It's windows xp, so it's odd that it takes like 4 minutes to boot (even with 1gb ram).

Pc Takes A Very Long Time To Complete The Boot Up Sequence
My daughter has a dell inspiron 1150 laptop which seems to have some sort of memory conflict of sort. It takes a very long time to complete the boot-up sequence and then, for no apparent reason simply slow down to a halt when opening a program (microsoft word, for example). The fan starts working overtime and processing performance slows to a halt. The task manager shows that most of the resources are being consumed by the system idle process. I have run spybot and adaware and mcafee anti-virus and nothing one turns turns up any problems. Any suggestions as to where to look next?

Hard Drive Is Not Detected On Boot Up Half The Time
So i bought one of those new 2tb wd hard drives, and when i start my computer the drive is generally not recognized in the bios the first time. The bios hangs at the sata port the drive is in for ~20 seconds then says none. Once i reset my pc once or twice the drive shows up like normal, with no issues. Other than this the drive works perfectly. I'm a bit skeptical of these drives since my first two attempts were doa; is this the sign of a faulty drive or does anyone have ideas as to the cause? I have of course checked the cables.

Pc Wont Boot, Fans Spin Up For A Brief Time Then Quit
I'm hoping someone might have some thoughts on what to do. My system wont boot. I hit the power button, and then the psu, cpu, chipset, and case fans spin up, but a second after spinning up the fans stop and the boot ends. The led power light on the motherboard stays illuminated the whole time. If i unplug the psu or turn the power switch off and then back on then i can press the power button and get the same brief spin up. If i hold down the power button for 10 seconds and then press the power button it will then perform this brief spin up. If i dont do any of these things i can keep pressing the power button and nothing happens. I've unplugged all the drives and nothing changes. I pulled the cmos batter and verified good amps from it. Prior to this boot issue i had some problems with a new (feb 2008) wd caviar drive i was using to store media (not the os drive). Windows reported it as having too many disk errors so it dropped it from sata 3. 0 to 1. 5. Also it had a few ntfs errors that required running checkdisk. And i had some bsods. After one crash on restart bios reported a smart error. I ran wds drive tools on the drive and it reported no errors with the drive and the drive worked fine after that error. Also, my system disk access on both os and media drive have seemed to degraded recently. This is alot of info but i'm hoping it might be of help in diagnosing the problem. My thoughts are motherboard or psu. I think i should get a new psu and see if that works. If that doesn't work i figured i'd replace the motherboard. But i found out that socket 939 is dead. That being the case if it is not the psu i'd build a new pc but have also considered at the same time fixing this pc as a backup (i'm really hurting business wise not having my pc). I dont want to spend alot money if i have to fix this rig and dont need sizzling performance. Any recommendations on a new, relatively inexpensive mobo, cpu, and memory setup to replace my existing components? Again, i'd also be building a new pc for higher performance but i would want decent performance. And i should add i'm not a gamer. I'm a programmer using my pc to run lots of apps, programming and graphic design software .

Computer Freezes On Boot - Long Time To Load Windows
I was having issues with a game of mine hard locking my pc. The only way to get out of it was to hold down the power button and force the pc to power down, then boot back up. Trying to trouble shoot the game, this happened several times. Then, it started freezing on the memory test. It's not really freezing, though - if i leave it sit for a very long time ( 5 to ten minutes ), it will eventually boot into windows. Any ideas?

Boot System From Usb
I am trying to boot from my usb flash drive. I followed the instructions step for step that are in the article on this website. I downloaded the hp program and the usb image zip file. I ran the hp flash program and pointed it to the folder where i unzipped the usb image files to. I then copied all the files over to the usb memory stick as instructed. When i restart my computer and press f12 to go to the boot menu i have 3 options: sata hard drive, cd-rom drive, or usb device. So i choose usb device and when it reads the usb memory stick all i get is the error "non-system disk, replace and hit any key" its like the usb memory is missing some system files or it doesnt have the master boot record or something. I want to flash the bios in a new video card and i have to boot to dos and i dont have a floppy drive and i have win xp so a usb boot is probably the best option i have.

System Boot Problem
I've been having a system boot problem ever since i got my new motherboard (check specs below). The problem is that when i started my computer, everything goes fine when it counts ram, checks usb ports and everything. But when it goes to identify cd-rom's and hard drives, it just sits there and the message at the bottom of the screen that tells me about my bios version and all that goes away and the system hangs there for about 2 minutes and then goes on and detects my two cd-roms (check specs below) and my floppy. Then, it goes on to say i have no bootable devices, to please insert media or restart the computer (the computer never picks up my hard drive (check specs below)). If i reboot when the bios message goes away or any time after that (using ctrl+alt+del or restart button), then the system restarts and boots up perfectly with no problems. So, whenever i turn on my system, i always have to restart it once in the begining. I really have no idea what's going on and i've never heard of such problem until now. I recently put in my dvd+/- 4x dual layer drive, but even before i did that i had a standard dvd player and still received the problem. I updated the bios as well because it was suppose to fix some boot problems, but did not fix the one that i'm experiencing. Please look over my system specs and reply if you can help me in any way!

System Boot / Reboot Issues
The system seems to run fine except for two issues i have been having: 1. When rebooting the system will shut down and then on restart it will make some carzy beeping and halt. This does not occur however when shutting down. 2. During boot after verifing th dmi pool it will try to boot from cdrom and then say it failed. However if i hit enter the system continues to boot fine. This problem even occurs when only the hard drive is selected in the bios to boot. I have search all over and found no information about these problems and i would greatly appreciate if someone could give me an idea of what to try.

System Wont Boot In Normal Mode
Ok, the system we are dealing with is quite old. My guess is 10 years. I dont really know all the specs offhand except that it's has:
-Probably about 128 mb sdram
-Old [huge] 400 mhz intel celeron processor
-300 watt generic psu. -Asus p28 motherboard
-Some old rage video card i think
Everything in it has never been changed. At least if it has, it's still been like 5 years. My mom uses this computer with windows 98 (no updates and never goes online) for solitaire! To get to the point - my mom complained that the computer kept booting in safe mode, so i switched it back to normal mode after checking the hardware to make sure everything is fine. Once i tried to boot in normal mode, it would freeze before even getting to the login screen. It probably did this for 6 or 7 times before finally, it froze and the screen went black. When i tried to reboot, it wouldn't even post. All the hardware seemed to be running, but no post. I tried each stick of ram individually and it made no difference. I even switched video cards. Finally, the next morning, i took it completely apart and put it back together. It boots up, but once again, freezes when booting to normal mode. It will, however, still boot into safe mode. Any ideas?

Computer Won't Boot Up - Xp System
I have an amd athlon xp based system with an asus a7n 266vm motherboard running xp. It stays on all the time, and a few times recently i've gotten up in the morning, and the screen has been on but black. The computer would not restart right away, but eventually did. The next time it happened, i rebooted and got a black and white screen with the safe, safe with networking, last good config, etc screen. It restarted fine with the last good config option. Now its doing it again, but will only start in safe mode. Each time i try to reboot, the hard drive makes a loud noise 3 times in rapid succession, and it either goes to the same black screen, or comes up with the safe mode options screen. From this information, is it even possible to give a relative computer dummy a starting point on what to do next?

Ssd As Boot Drive For An Older System
Can a 16 gb ssd be used as a boot drive on an intel p4c800 deluxe mb? Does it make sense to do so?
I've pretty much decided to install an ssd (probably intel g2 80gb) on my primary home computer, for a number of (obvious) reasons. However, i'm wondering about the computer my wife uses, whether it makes sense to install a smaller ssd on it. Every three years or so i replace my primary computer and cascade everything down (wife's computer, hobby computer, etc - currently there's three at home, and i just recycled two older ones). Her computer is now, in effect, a netbook, since all of our important data is stored on a nas, and she uses the computer mainly for e-mail (web interface), basic open office stuff (create or read word docs, spreadsheets, etc), digital cam pics (which are stored on the nas), and maybe play some music or video. The mb is an intel p4c800 deluxe (no pcie slots, but does have sata, although i assume an earlier sata, not sata ii). Most of the 16gb ssd's i've looked at are for mini pcie slots, or for an external ssd. So i'm not sure if there's even a way to boot up with an ssd on this mb (an ssd for the boot drive is the only reason i'd put a small ssd into it). If there is a way, it seems like a relatively cheap way to significantly boost the performance (specially boot times). Right now the boot drive is a really old and small ide drive (something i had laying around from probably 8 years or so ago). Newegg has a number of 16gb ssd's between $45 and $65 (the max i'm willing to spend for this particular use), but it's not clear if any of them will work. I could just buy her a netbook, but other than the disk, the rest of the system is still fairly capable (decent graphics to a nice lcd monitor, audio, rw dvd optical, etc), and a new netbook is $300 or so. I picked 16gb as the ssd size since i may install win 7 on it (it currently is running vista), but maybe an 8gb ssd would work. Linux (and maybe an 8gb ssd?) Might be an option, depending on a few things. Any comments or suggestions are welcome! I'll even take some ridicule, as long as it's good-natured.

System Wont Boot With Two Sticks Of Ram
I'm helping a friend upgrade his computer, and we've found that with a dual-core processor installed it will not boot with a stick of ram in the second slot (there's only two). However, when we put the single core back in it does just fine with two sticks. I have tried two different sets of ram that are known to be good. Is there a possibility that the new cpu and running two sticks of ram is overloading the psu?
Specs:
Asus a8m2n-la am2 motherboard (built for hp)
Sempron 3400+ (old) and athlon 64 x2 5600+ (new)
2x1gb ddr2-667 (also tried 2x2gb ddr2-800)
Radeon hd 5670
Windows 7 ultimate x64
250w besteq psu

Boot System From Wireless 360 Controller
Since my 360 went bust i thought to make the most of the wireless controllers that i had left over so i bought a wireless adapter for windows . My query is - could i boot my pc using these ? I found a application that facilitates the use of the mouse pointer while in windows but . I would like to extend that .

A64 System Won't Boot - It Beeps
I just took delivery of my new system. Specs below. When i power it up it just emits a loud, long (maybe 2 second) beep that repeats every few seconds and just keeps repeating continuously. It's not a nice sounding beep. The system does not boot up, just keeps beeping. Nothing shows on the monitor at all, i mean it is just black. The fans work. Can anyone give me some ideas about what i should check?

During The Last Boot Up Your System Hung For An Inproper Cpu Speed Setting
I have bought an asus p4s533-e motherboard and present i have two processors, i am not using two processors at the same time. 1 x penitum 4 1. 6 ghz 256/400/1. 75v this is the one i am using at present, but want to upgrade to the p4 2. 40, the computer is set to auto but is not reading the cpu correctly? This is what the bios says when i start up the computer. During the last boot up your system hung for an inproper cpu speed setting, your sys is now working in safe mode, to optimize sys performance and reliability, make sure the cpu speed conforms to the specifications of your cpu. Can anyone tell me what is wrong.computer specifications:
My cpu speed is 1600mhz
Cpu frequency multiple (16x) cpu external frequency (mhz) 100/33
Memory frequency auto
Cpu vcore set= auto
Cpu vcore is grayed out but says (1. 75v)
Memory is pc2100 266.

From Time To Time Computer Freezes
I need help diagnosing what i believe is a hardware problem, since it happens with windows and linux. From time to time my computer freezes. I cannot move the mouse pointer and there is no reaction when i press a key on the keyboard. There is no bluescreen or any other error message. Also, it is not predicatble when the computer freezes. Sometimes i can work for hours without any problems and sometimes it freezes after 5 minutes. Generally, i noticed that it freezes earlier when i use windows instead of linux. Any idea what could be the problem or what i could do to diagnose it?

Disk Boot Failure. Insert System Disk And Press Enter
Just built my first pc and configured the bios etc and get the following message:
Boot from atapi cd-rom
Disk boot failure. Insert system disk and press enter. I think this means that i have to insert a boot disk for the cd-rom drive into the floppy disk drive, to install the drivers for it. Can someone confirm this? Also my cd drive is a philips 52x32x52 cd-rw which came with no floppy disks for installation at all, so i am not sure how i can setup the cd drive without an operating system etc.

Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk And Press Enter
I'm just usng my computer as a normal computer user would use one's computer. Surfing the web, instant messaging programs and the like, then my main harddrive makes a low click sound, then a slightly higher click sound after about half a second, then windows stops responding, then less than a second after my system achieves full lockup. So i'm like, ok, that's weird, and i reboot. I boot into bios and make sure it's not set to turn off the harddrives for any reason, and when i see that it isn't and there are no other wonky settings, i boot windows (xp pro sp2 .net) into safemode and just to make sure, start a virus scan, while that's working i look and make sure drive indexing is turned off (it isnf't on the main drive, so i turn it off) and that power save things are set to always on, and that's all ok, so while i'm waiting for the virus scan to finish, it does the click thing again, locks up, so i'm like *** and i reboot again, this time it gets to the ascii loading bar before the animated startup screen before the login prompt, and it does the click thing and stops, so i reboot again, and this time it gets to "verifying dmi pool data. " After detecting the drives and whatnot, does the click thing and stops right there, then after a minute or so i see "disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". So i sit there getting madder by the second and press enter, then it gives me a blank screen and that message again, and that's where it sits right now as i type this (but once i post i'll turn it off)
So i was running a virus scan, avg free edition, and it scanned the registry and the mbr for viruses and didn't find any, so i dunno, this either is a virus that i don't have a definition for, or some random progressive hardware failure, or my computer decided to crap out on me randomly.

Insert System Disk And Press Enter, Disk Boot Failure
Looking for suggestions for what to do next. I've built my first from scratch computer using:
New
Gigabyte ga-8i915p duo-a motherboard
P4 630 3ghz 800mhz fsb 2mb l2 cache processor
Maxtor 200gb eide ultra ata/133 hard drive
2x crucial 1gb ddrii 533 memory sticks
From my old system
Cd/rw
Dvd rom
It seems to post ok, but i then get the message
"Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter"
I've tried the new copy of windows xp bought for this build, and also the disks that came with the board and the hard drive. Each time the same message comes up. I've searched through all the documentation that came with everything, the net, and some books, nothing i try works. Can anybody help please?

Message: Reboot & Select Boot Device Or Insert Boot Media
I built my first computer about 2 weeks ago but have noticed a problem. When i turn the computer on it shows the motherboard screen and stays there for approx 15-20 seconds. Then it goes into a black screen stating that i need to "reboot & select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. "
I am a bit confused on what this means. If i restart the computer while it shows the message it starts up with no problems. What can i do to have this message no appear as i power on my computer? Also during the shift from one screen to another, the screen blinks in green and other colors. What can this be? Can it be that i have my lcd tv connected to my computer with a dvi to hdmi cable?Besides these issues, everything seems to run great, no overheating at all.

Windows Boot Error - Unmountable Boot Volume
I have had my new system up and running for about 5 weeks now with now problems. So today i was on my computer and all of a sudden it freezes. Nothing is responding so i just reset the power. Once i reset the power i get to the logon screen, i logon and then i get a blue screen saying windows has detected a problem and has been shut down to prevent any damage to your computer the under it, it says, unmountable_boot_volume. So i thought my grphix card might have overheated so i try rebooting again about several times with no luck. I try booting with safe mode but still freezes. After about 2 hrs i come back and nothing has changed. Any 1 know any solutions?

Can't Boot With Cd Rom / Fix Boot.ini
I have a toshiba satelite laptop with windows xp on it. While copying files over the network onto it i got the blue screen with white letters. I had to do a "hard shut down" to turn it off. When i tried to turn it back on it would start to boot and as it begins to load i get the option to boot in normal or safe mode (both give the same result). After the windows xp logo shows i get another screen that says invalid boot.ini, i searched the error on google and i found this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330184
Ok great! I have the cd i put it in the drive, but it won't boot on the cd, also i tried pressing f everything, delete, esc yadah to get into the bios to make sure its set to boot up on a cd before the hard drive. But nothing seems to work. Does anyone know something else i might be able to try to get the boot.ini reset / uncorrupt or get it to boot up by the cd?

Games Freeze All The Time
. And they do that since graphics card update. First, there was the radeon x600. It died. So i needed a new card. Was a radeon hd 2600. Installed new drivers, even reinstalled windows. Games began to freeze after a couple minutes, the only game playable was rollercoaster tycoon 2. Some time later i bought a radeon hd 3850. And again, reinstalled windows and added the latest drivers. And again! No game playable. They all work fine for about ten minutes, and then freeze. It can not be the temps as they don't go over 90 degrees, wich, according to ati ccc, is in normal range. It can not be the psu either, since its rather new and powerful enough. So what else could it be?
I thought about the mainboard, a msi ms-7046, quite some years old.could it be that it doesn't "like" the new graphics card, since its an oem-mainboard? Or that it simply is too old? Or what the fudge else.
