Disk Error

Well i got my copy of vista and decided to install it with xp, for a dual os. Anyways, i partitioned my c drive (80gb) into another primary partition called "vista" (w: ), which i set to the max; 50gb. I went to install vista on the 50gb and loaded the installation in xp. I selected the 50gb partition and off it went. Apon the first reboot, vista was loading except it did not have a logo, all i could see was the loading bar. After about 3-4 mins of loading, i got a bsod. I reset the comp and when it went to check the raid array, it said one of the hdd's has a disk error. It continued to load, and i ended up getting into xp. I deleted all the vista stuff and re-merged the w: drive into the c: drive. Im still getting the disk error (which delays the raid screen for like 20 seconds) and it asks me what os to choose (even tho i deleted all my vista stuff)

What is going on?

Backup: Can Not Write To Disk, Disk Write Error

I was saving the backup file in quickbooks & have done this thousands of times. During the backup it said can not write to disk, disk write error. Than the error started popping up for tons of folders on the same drive. This drive is my secondary drive, not the main drive. So i restarted my computer. & Chkdsk ran so i let it do its thing. It got to step 3 & said insufficient disk space to fix the bad clusters file. Chkdsk aborted. Which did not make any sense because this drive has over 200gb open. So now the computer is running ridiculously slow & my f & g drives (same hard drive partitioned) is now not being recognized. So i tried to run chkdsk on those drives & it said the drives are raw. The drive can not be raw because it has over 250 gb of files on it. So did my hard drive crash? I have had a crash in the past, but this seems different. When i go to my computer i see local disk f & g but that is not the names they used to be called & the drives dont open if clicked on them. Luckily i have everything backed up pretty regularly on 2 other drives. However it has not been backed up for a week or two so that part sucks. Does anyone have any ideas?

Disk Read Error

So the other day my uncle called me to do some computer work. Setup outlook with his new e-mail and do some general house cleaning. Part of what i did was uninstall an outdated copy of symantec corporate anti-virus and installed the beta of microsoft security essentials (a day before the final version got released). Mse starts going through its first run update and scan procedure so i leave it be. The next day i get a call back, his computer won't boot into windows. It gets as far as the screen with the blue dell bar at the top passes the "pbr" check but then says "disk read error. Press crtl-alt-del to restart. "

Upon further inspection the hard drive is in some sort of seek loop. Three short seeks followed by a long one. A few moments later and it does it again. It is not making any clicks or sounds i would call unusual. I move the drive to another computer and it does the same thing, but holds xp from booting all the way. It gets past the logo screen, but hangs on the black screen between the logo and login. I ripped apart my external drive for its ide to usb adapter and while making the noise, it freezes the computer until i turn the drive off. Then xp acts like nothing happened. I should mention that the first time i plugged it in usb, the drive was recognized but windows froze before "the drive is ready to use". Now it just freezes without being recognized. Any ideas? Maybe a low-level program that would be worth trying? And since there is important data he needs, if all else fails, what is a good option for a professional data recovery company (he knows it would be $500+)? And after this, he is going to get a backup solution. The drive is a seagate 7200. 7 80gb ide.

Startup Gives A Disk Read Error

This is a problem my mom is having with her computer, so this might be slightly vague. Until today she was having no problems. However, today she turned the computer on, got the startup blurb, it went to the windows loading screen but decided to just stay on that screen with the windows loading bar just continuing on its merry way. She decided to restart the computer, the startup screen came up but then it apparently went to blue screen of death. She pressed whatever key it was and it went to another screen that said, 'disk read error - press ctrl, alt, delete to restart'. Now since i been speaking to her it just goes straight to the disk read error screen after the startup screen, no windows loading, nothing.

Disk Error : Ntldr Is Missing

For some weird reason, i'm unable to boot into any one of the windows oses on my system. The usual boot menu of ntloader just wont come up. It stubbornly says 'disk error' and 'ntldr is missing'. I booted of the xp cd and did the fixmbr thing, still the same error. I can easily boot into linux w/ its bootdisk. A few tries of fixmbr and fixboot led me nowhere. So i thought dumping the ghost image of xp, rebooted and still wouldnt work. Has my disk really gone bad? I'll give it another try later tonight. And if things show no progress at all, might reinstall then.

Disk Error Checking Tool

This has happened to me a few times on my blackberry and i am glad rim has finally addressed the issue with a recent knowledge base article. Ever gotten this error after unplugging your blackberry from your computer?

A media card has been inserted that contains errors. To correct the errors please use a disk error-checking utility on a computer. My first reaction when i got this error was "crap what about all my pictures!" Then i realized it is a simple as plugging your blackberry into your pc and running checkdisk to fix the errors. Some of you may not have realized that so i thought i would share. Plug your blackberry into a windows computer and turn on mass storage mode if it is not already turned on
Open my computer. Right-click the appropriate removable disk. Click tools, and then click check now. Select automatically fix file system errors, and then click start. Things should work just fine after that! At least it worked the last two times i got this error. Not sure if there is a way to do this on a mac but let me know! I personally think it sucks that rim cannot just include the disk checking utility on your blackberry since your only option from the device is to format it completely and lose your data

Hdd Not Found On Boot = Disk Error

I recently received a western digital 160gb, as a replacement for a broken western digital 120gb, from western digital. However on boot the hdd is sometimes not found and instead a little clicking noise can be heard, which in turn leads to the primary slave not being found and then a disk error. Usually if i simply turn it off then back on again, then it works fine however sometimes i have to do this multiple times, sometimes i have to turn it off and leave it for a few minutes and sometimes i have to open the case and push all the cables into the back of the hdd and dvdrw a bit more. To me the cables don't feel as though they've come loose and so really this is an exercise of ritual rather than anything constructive, yet it seems to do the job. Once the hdd is recognised the pc works fine and dandy but i'd like to avoid this failure as it is happening more and more. Is this an issue with the cpu, data cables, power cables, hdd, dvdrw, ram?
My system is an asus pundit w/ intel 2. 8ghz, dual 512mb ram, western digital 160gb, sony 8x dvdrw.

Error 0200: Failure Fixed Disk 0

It is hard for me to throw away things that have been working. I am the owner of two dell inspiron notebooks. One is an 1100 (2003) and the one that is currently giving me the problem is a 2500 (2002). So you can see who you are dealing with. I upgraded the memory on both machines to 1g and 512mb respectively, not that long ago and they were working fine. Then i got this brainstorm to try to teach myself ubuntu and wiped out xp on the 2500 and burned an iso image of a ubuntu version and it was working ok except i couldn't connect to the internet even via ethernet cable. Time passed and then by the time i came back to it - there was a problem that i really can't recall - i posted on some other sites and the bottom line was, i thought i needed a new hard drive. So i purchased a compatible drive (i did a fair amount of research) and got the drive about 2 months ago and just tried to get it going this morning. I replaced my hitachi 20 gb drive with a seagate momemtus 5400. 3 40gb drive. When i boot up, the initial screen does show that it recognizes my new drive (model st940815a).

Whs Insufficient Disk Space Error

Yesterday i noticed my latest shares weren't being included in a whs search but were there if i explored the shared music folder. After investigating indexing a little more i received the message on the "indexing options" pop-up "insufficient disk space to continue indexing. Search results might not be complete"

Seems i have 145, 224 items indexed and that's the limit? 98% of the indexed items are @ 4000 mp3 and flac album folders. I removed the other folders from the indexing options and turned off duplication for the music share folder but it made no change to the indexing error. The os is on a 74gb raptor but i don't believe the os partition "grows as needed" so that shouldn't be the problem. I suppose i could tell it to not index the text and pics or maybe move the folder? Is there anyway to increase the size of the index folder or another way around this?

Norton Like Software For Disk / Error Checking

I used to have norton utilities installed on my xp box, but have since gone to win7 and no longer touching norton products with a 20m pole. I did, however, really enjoy norton win doctor and their disk checker. What is comparable (free or for charge) software for win7 - that has a thorough disk/error checker, and defrag (or is win7 defrag good enough). What about a norton win-doctor-like utility? Or is that probably not needed anymore.

W2k Hd Error Message: The Disk In Drive D Is Not Formatted

As topic, i received an error on my w2k system "the disk in drive d is not formatted, format is now?". Yes, it is a w2k (windows 2000 professional) system. It's an old reliable system that i use it as a file server. Last night, i noticed some files disappeared on my d: drive. I restarted my computer and then i couldn't access my d: drive anymore. When i try to access it, it pops up with an error message stating "the disk in drive d is not formatted, format is now?". Any suggestion of what would cause this kind of problem and how to recover data?

And yes, i did use google to search for some answers, and i have 2 possible solutions on my hands right now, hdd re generator and partition table doctor. I am just curious if anyone have any other suggestion.

Master Hard Disk Error - Press F1 To Resume

I was told that this message could be the operating system as well as maybe a hard drive issue, is this right? I ran both western digital lifeguard tests on these two drives and it was the storage 500gb that had the bad sectors and not the raptor, which is where the os, and applications.could it still be possible that the storage disk #1 still shows the bad even though the bootup disk is the 74gb raptor? I would hate very much to replace the wrong defective drive. Well, heres the thing. I am at the library because something strange is going on, and my computer is hanging and not responding. I've been getting the black screen with hard disk error message, try to go to safe mode, then to command prompt, then to start windows normally, then to the start in last known settings that worked, but it all takes me back to the hard disk error message. Maybe once or twice i can get on to the desktop, but then it just hangs, or i can get as far as the welcome screen, then it hangs and hangs. I have two sata western digital hard drives. 74gb raptor for applications, and 500gb for storage. When i am doing anything on the computer, it's been hanging recently and i ran the wd data lifeguard utiliy, the "quick" and the "extended" test on drive 2 (500gb) which came back with bad sectors which it repaired, then showed healthy. The test on the raptor showed up as healthy as well. Thjs worked fine for a day and then i get this black screen with ". " Again. Before i left to come here to the library to post this, i called western digital and of course they told me it may be my windows operating system, since the utility showed them as healthy. He told me to hook up each drive to another computer to test. What? Another computer?

Well i do have an old antique compact with 256ram 1. 2 ghz amd cpu and is slower than ratsnot. If i were to test, i'd have to use to ide cables to each of the drives. The western digital guy told me that my winxp pro os could be the problem, so does this mean i will have to wipe the hard drives and reinstall windows, all the apps, hardware, drivers, all over again only to find out it is one of the hard drives?

Winxp pro/ q6600 intel core 2/ 3. 3gb ddr/msi p-35 platinum mobo/ geforce 8600gt

Disk Read Error Occurred - Press Ctrl Alt Del To Restart

I have a one year old dell dimension 4600, 2. 6 ghz, maxtor calypso serial ata 120 gb hd, 1 gb ram i dont think anything else really matters. Yesterday my computer was working perfectly fine, this morning i wake up and the screen is frozen, but its a different type of "frozen" then i've ever had. I can access the taskbar and i can open some new programs but currently open ones are disabled, on top of that ctrl+alt+del didnt work. So naturally i pressed the power button and my computer restarted, the first time i did this the computer went only as far as the windows xp loading screen and wouldnt budge from there, so i restarted again and same thing. Then it asked me if i wanted to go into safe mode and i did, and everything seemed to be more or less fine, so from past experiences i assumed that i can restart and everything would be back to normal. This was not the case, now right after the initial "dell" screen the pc gives this message " a disk read error occured. Press ctrl alt del to restart" since i got that error about 30 minutes ago, ive tried several things, ive tried to go into safe mode again by pressing the f8 key at startup, ive played around with some bios configurations(dont worry, everything is back to default now) i also pressed the f12 key to get into menu where i choose where to boot from. After trying several of the options, i resorted to the system diagnostics tests, where i ran a test of my hard drive, which is most likely the problem(right?). This test returned errors in the :read test" and the "verify test" the read test returned "fail, error code 0f00:0244, msg:block 81525: uncorrectable data error or media is write protected" and the "verify test" returned "fail, error code 0f00:1a44, msg: block 0: "uncorrectable data error or media is write protected" and thats where i am right now, i hope you can help, and i really need to salvage the data on my hard drive because unfortunately a lot of it isnt backed up.

"no Hard Disk" Error On Xp Install

My notebook came installed with vista, which of course had to go. When trying to install xp i received a "no hard disk" error. The hd in the laptop is a sata drive, hence the error. As the laptop doesn't have a floppy drive i tried slipstreaming the drivers onto the bootable windows xp installation cd but to no avail - i tried it both manually and with nlite. I don't get the "no hard disk" error, but another one, namely that the driver cannot be found despite it being there (double-checked, retried, etc). So, any ideas on how to solve this? How do i get xp onto the sata drive without a floppy?

Error Message "there Is No Disk In The Drive"

My computer persistently displays this error message saying "windows - no disk: there is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive. " When i look at the my computer screen it shows my floppy drive, my c drive, the unknown removable disk drive (d:), cd drives e and f, my other internal drive (g:), my external (h:), the second partition on my internal drive (i:), a dvd drive (j:), and then finally the second unknown removable disk drive (k:). I have no idea what these removable disk drives are or how they got here but i think they are causing the problem. Windows thinks there is a disk mounted but there isnt. If it helps the applications i was using at the time of when the incident first began was azureus, my dvd drive, divx player, itunes, and maybe some more random stuff. This error message pops up whenever i open multiple programs such as itunes and azureus. I could really use some help with this as it is starting to become very annoying!

Disk Boot Failure. Insert System Disk And Press Enter

Just built my first pc and configured the bios etc and get the following message:

Boot from atapi cd-rom
Disk boot failure. Insert system disk and press enter. I think this means that i have to insert a boot disk for the cd-rom drive into the floppy disk drive, to install the drivers for it. Can someone confirm this? Also my cd drive is a philips 52x32x52 cd-rw which came with no floppy disks for installation at all, so i am not sure how i can setup the cd drive without an operating system etc.

Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk And Press Enter

I'm just usng my computer as a normal computer user would use one's computer. Surfing the web, instant messaging programs and the like, then my main harddrive makes a low click sound, then a slightly higher click sound after about half a second, then windows stops responding, then less than a second after my system achieves full lockup. So i'm like, ok, that's weird, and i reboot. I boot into bios and make sure it's not set to turn off the harddrives for any reason, and when i see that it isn't and there are no other wonky settings, i boot windows (xp pro sp2 .net) into safemode and just to make sure, start a virus scan, while that's working i look and make sure drive indexing is turned off (it isnf't on the main drive, so i turn it off) and that power save things are set to always on, and that's all ok, so while i'm waiting for the virus scan to finish, it does the click thing again, locks up, so i'm like *** and i reboot again, this time it gets to the ascii loading bar before the animated startup screen before the login prompt, and it does the click thing and stops, so i reboot again, and this time it gets to "verifying dmi pool data. " After detecting the drives and whatnot, does the click thing and stops right there, then after a minute or so i see "disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". So i sit there getting madder by the second and press enter, then it gives me a blank screen and that message again, and that's where it sits right now as i type this (but once i post i'll turn it off)

So i was running a virus scan, avg free edition, and it scanned the registry and the mbr for viruses and didn't find any, so i dunno, this either is a virus that i don't have a definition for, or some random progressive hardware failure, or my computer decided to crap out on me randomly.

Insert System Disk And Press Enter, Disk Boot Failure

Looking for suggestions for what to do next. I've built my first from scratch computer using:

New
Gigabyte ga-8i915p duo-a motherboard
P4 630 3ghz 800mhz fsb 2mb l2 cache processor
Maxtor 200gb eide ultra ata/133 hard drive
2x crucial 1gb ddrii 533 memory sticks

From my old system
Cd/rw
Dvd rom

It seems to post ok, but i then get the message

"Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter"

I've tried the new copy of windows xp bought for this build, and also the disks that came with the board and the hard drive. Each time the same message comes up. I've searched through all the documentation that came with everything, the net, and some books, nothing i try works. Can anybody help please?

Error: Stop: C000021a Fatal System Error

It was working fine yesterday. But then i started my comp and i saw the motherboard logo. Then usual testing. Then the windows logo. But right before it was ready to go to logon screen it shows the blue screen with some fatal error:

Stop: c000021a {fatal system error}the session manager initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a system status 0xc000026c, i thought itwas the virus i got few days ago. I put different harddrives in different os's but nothing works. Even trying to restore stops. Everything stops with some fatal error. Now i'm pretty sure it's the hardware. But how do i know which part it is. I mean more likely it's the video card. Cause i overclocked it, but how do i find out for sure what's causing the problem
Is it even hardware? I'm completely clueless. Please help. My stupid windows xp doesnt start on other comps. I'm pretty sure it works just doesnt like hardware. But it contains a lot of information i cant delete.
