The cable works i tested it with my dvd player all i did was take it out and put it into the laptop but it is not working shouldn't this happen automatically? Do i have to use a 7 pin s-video i was told i could use a 4.

Laptop Video Freezes
I have a laptop i got a t christmas which runs windows 7 home premium 32 bit, i am beginning to get frustrated as when i try to play videos on youtube or bbc iplayer etc the video freezes roughly every ten minutes for about 30 seconds yet the audio continues, i have tried to play the videos on different browsers and have turned off the hardware acceleration, cleared the cache and history and restarted the computer and updated the video card and installing the newest edition of flash player , however none of this is helping at all, i would really appreciate some help thank you :d i have a amd turion(tm) x2 dual-core mobile rm-75 2. 20 ghz processor

Laptop: Which Processor / Video Card To Use ?
I am preparing to buy a laptop and need help as to what to get in it. I am going to be playing dvd's on it and my daughter will be playing the sims on it. That requires a pentium 4 or better processor and a t&l capable video card such as ati radeon 8500 or better, nvidia or intel express graphics 82865 or better. What would you suggest:
Processor: an intel core duo, intel core 2 duo, pentium m or amd turion 64 x2. Video card: an ati radeon 8500, nvidia, or an intel gma 950 graphics card (is the gma 950 comparable to the radeon or nvidia?)

Corrupt Laptop Video Card
A few weeks ago, i accidentally shut down my laptop while it was installing some updates, one of them being for the graphics card (geforce go 6150). The next day, i started up my computer and every time it turned on, it would turn back off. After about 10 trys it finally started up normally. Then, the day after that, i started up my computer once more and i wouldn't start up (screen stays black for 30sec and then reboots and same thing). I had to start it up, then shut it down and then start it up again for it to work. Then when i starts up, it works fine but then the screen stays black and nothign happens. However safemode works. I re-installed the os and again it wouldn't start up correctly unless i shut it down and start it back up again quickly, in which case it worked. But after installing the drivers for the video card, it wouldn't start up anymore. I uninstalled the drivers and now it works but, with that start up issue. Any suggestions?

Answer:- yes and no, but just for the sake of it i will stick with no. Technically it might be possible to find a gpu that will fit your laptop and is 'better' than the gpu already in it. But it's a pain in the a to find a correct card. In the situation the gpu is integrated with the mobo, it is even impossible. Then still you will need to install the new gpu which is very risky: laptops are fragile machines and you could very easily end up messing something up. Replacement is possible, but requires skill and experience and is difficult to accomplish. There are manuals available on the net on how to do the job though. The other option would be buying a new laptop. This is the most safe option, and on the plus side the new machine will be under warranty. If you ask me, i would never upgrade or replace the gpu in a laptop, although i know how to do it. It's not worth it and the performance of the laptop depends on more than just the gpu. There is also a reason there are just three devices in a laptop that can easily be replaced, those are the dvd-bay, hard drive and memory. The other components are not worth replacing if you ask me and i wouldn't want you to mess up your laptop if it's working properly right now.

Upgrade Video Card Of Hp Dv8t Laptop
Can i upgrade the video card of a hp dv8t laptop from a geforce gt 230m to a geforce gtx 470? I am considering purchasing a hp dv8t laptop (modified for improved performance) although the video card is still the factory model. One of the main reasons i am considering buying that laptop is to play resource demanding video games (crysis with graphics level on high or ultra for example) and i know the fps i would be getting from a geforce 230m would be. Well. (Too many horrible things just crossed my mind so lets leave it at that). So what i want to know is if its technically possible to take off the gt 230m (feed it to my dog) and replace it with the gtx 470 for example. By the way, i am not too familiar with the hardware or how does it connect inside a laptop so that is why i am asking. I just don't want to buy the laptop, buy the gtx 470, remove the crappy video card and try to fit in the gtx 470 just to find out i can't and i just wasted a few hundred bucks in more dog food.

Acer Laptop Bios / Video Driver Problem
Just pickep up a new old laptop at a garage sale. It'll be only a slight speed improvement over my current one, p200mmx vs. P166mmx. But this one uses sodimms instead of proprietary ram modules, the battery actually works well, and it has a nice keyboard and a cdrom. It came with win95 in it, surprisingly, and i had to reinstall the video and sound drivers to get it booting into windows. After some preliminary checking i installed 98se clean on its 2g primary partition, after copying the install cd to an existing 1g extended partition. This is when i realised why it still had 95 in it. It won't let me put in the video drivers for the neomagic video adapter. Every time i try and point it to the driver i want, it continues to demand the driver from the w95 cd. I can only guess there is something in the bios controlling this. It's a unisys aquanta en/m, but some investigation identified it as an acer nuovo variant. Acer seems to have drivers for their nuovo variants only for 95 and nt. I was thinking of getting one of the new samsung spinpoint 40g 5400rpm drives for it and putting in 2k when i get the ram maxed to 128mb. (I could move the drive to my next old-but-better laptop in the future and put the existing 3g back in. ) But i'm wondering if i may be limited to nt because of the video issues. The bios is accessible at any time, even in win, through function keys, and is not on the hdd. I'll do more prowling around the acer site for bios or drivers, but i'm not overly hopeful. Any feedback on resolving the video driver issue is gratefully accepted. The acer nuovo variants lack the usb port this one has, and have only one of the two sodimm slots accessible on the bottom. This has both on the bottom. I'll have to see if this matches a different model, like one of the acernotes, more exactly.

I built my first pc not long ago (in no small part to many of you and your posts). I am fully converted and would never purchase a pre-built one again. Now i am on to laptops. There i am not sure what options i have. Not long ago i purchase one that has an intel graphics media accelerator x3100 but i wanted to put a separate ati or nvidea graphics card into it. Are laptops as simple as desktops. Meaning can i just pop in open and plug a graphics card in or am i stuck with what i have?

I have been using an older laptop as a media extender in the bedroom, it has an original centrino pentium m 1. 6ghz and an ati x700 in it. It works great for non-hd files but when i try and play something in hd the cpu cant handle it, uses 100% and lags badly. I was wondering if there is a usb or pcmcia video card that i could get which has an hd decoder in it. Either that or is there a way to make what i have now do the decoding? Some special driver or software for the x700? I am watching on an sd tv perhaps i can down sample to sd and reduce the cpu load? I have tried both ffdshow and coreavc decoders, neither improve the 100% cpu loading and lagging.

How would i connect my laptop to my tv? I have a studio 17 laptop with vga and hdmi outputs and a tv with standard yellow, white, and red rga inputs. Any help on what i would use to connect to tv? I have external speakers so audio is not a problem. Answer:- unfortunately, vga and hdmi are not compatible with the composite rca jacks on your old low-definition boob-tube tv. Don't even think of buying one of those vga-to-rca cables. That will never work. Those are intended for video cards with specially-built vga ports that can send out a composite signal, and will not work with just any vga port. The vga port on your studio 17 is not one of those specially-built ones. If you want to connect your studio 17 to an old boob-tube low-definition tv, you need a signal converter box that can translate vga to composite. I would strongly recommend against that though, because the picture you get on that low-definition boob-tube tv will be extremely poor. Old low-definition boob-tube tvs are utterly unsuitable for use as computer monitors. Vga and hdmi works best with high-definition flat-panel tvs.

The laptop will not have scart. It is possible, but expensive, to get a vga-scart adaptor (about £60 from maplin) and you'll still need a separate sound lead.

Most tv sets have an s- video input and many laptops have an s-video output socket a standard s video lead will carry pictures to the tv, but you'll have to use the 3. 5mm to phono lead to carry the sound. The laptop will not have scart. It is possible, but expensive, to get a vga-scart adaptor (about £60 from maplin) and you'll still need a separate sound lead.

How To Connect My Laptop To Tv?
I have a problem hooking up my tv to my laptop. The lap. Is recognizing my tv as a monitor but the tv is still blank. If i change the setting to external monitor i cant see my screen on either tv. We have a vga cable with blue green and red ports and the same on our tv. We have tried all other channels and still cant find anything. Right now i have it set up to show things on both monitors but again nothing on the tv. I got it to flicker on when i restarted but after that it went to blank screens for both and i had to disconnect to get my normal comp screen back. Is there a genius in the house?

How Do I Connect My Laptop To Tv?
Well i do now how, but my old rca tv doesn't have a vga port. (This tv is really big. ) But the rest of my tvs do. So i was thinking i could just buy a male to male vga cable (so i can use it on other tvs too) and buy an adapter that converts s-video (which my old tv has) to vga (which the tv doesn't have) to plug the mm vga cable to the adapter, and then to the tv. Where can i find the darn cable?!?!? . (The s-video to vga cable. ) Oh, and i don't plan to buy one of those converter boxes. I believe just making the cable is easier than buying a converter that requires a 9v power supply. Lastly, i think vga is way better quality than s-video. Which is why i also don't plan to buy a mm s-video cable. I talked to a guy at best buy and he said vga is like the 2nd or 3rd best quality you can get from a cable. Oh, and my tv nor my laptop have hdmi. And lastly lastly, i already have the audio cable!

I would like to set up my old 32'' sony television as a monitor for my hp laptop. Seeing as though my laptop does not have a s-video port, (yet my tv does), yet it does have a hdmi port, (yet my tv lacks this). So i was wondering, do i need to buy one of those $80 hdmi converters to s-video or can i go with this:
**Note** i believe it is a 5 hdmi port. To tell you just count the holes right? Lol?

Okay i want to connect my laptop to my computer tower. I have the monitor cord to do so, but i keep getting a black screen. I was wondering whether or not it is possible to hook a tower up to a laptop and have that information from the tower be displayed on the laptop (like making the laptop into a monitor, more or less, with the capabilities of using the laptop's keyboard and mouse).
