Lg Dvd Drive Disappeared From Vista
Replies: 8 | Post Date: 06-28-2009, 02:49 PM | User: Gregmior | Forums: hardforum.comI have an lg 4163b dvd-rom/writer which up until today was working just fine and no problems to report. I was just about to load up a game which requires the disc in the drive and i get a notification that the disc wasn't found. I thought this was odd, and sure enough in "my computer" there is no cd/dvd drives showing. Following this up, i checked the device manager and it seems that my dvd drivers got screwed up somehow (the only major change i've made was installing new nvidia graphics drivers yesterday, which shouldn't have affected the dvd). I've been all over the internet - lg's site, google, etc. - And i cannot find any drivers that want to work for vista. Every time i run the firmware installer's it cannot detect the drive, and won't install. Anyone have any workaround solutions for me to try?
The drive is about 5 years old, but its been working just fine, and i generally don't use the drive for anything anymore, so i'd hate to have to buy a new one just because vista is being stupid!

My Dvd Drive Disappeared
Yeah exactly as the titles says my dvd drive disappeared, i put in a dvd and nothing happens, i opened device manager and there is this yellow triangle with a sign inside it (don't know the proper name for that sign) and in properties it says this
''windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
Click 'check for solutions' to send data about this device to microsoft and to see if there is a solution available. '' i don't know if this matters but i removed the burning program i had the drive in question is matshita bd-mlt sw-5584 ata device this is innoying i just got godfather 2 this morning. :C ry:

Dvd Burner Seen As Dvd Rom Drive Only In Vista 64
I've just upgraded to vista home premium 64 and my sony dw-q28a dvd-rw drive is not seen as a burner for cds or dvds. So if i right click on it with a re-writable disk in i do not get an 'erase' option, when i right click on a file there's no 'send to>cd' option and in media player when i click onto the burn tab, it tells me to connect a burner and restart!
This drive worked just fine in xp, then i upraded my motherboard to an asus p5e3 and installed vista and now it doesn't! I seem to have everything setup ok in the bios, i've tried re-plugging the ide & power cables and the drive name is read as sony dvd-rw but it won't function at all as a writer. Any ideas?

Vista - Inserting Dvd Causes The Drive To Disappear
When i place a burned dvd into my drive, the computer starts to load it for about 10 seconds, and then all of a sudden the entire drive disappears from my drive list. I have to reboot the computer (without the disc in) to get it to recognize the drive again. If i put the original dvd in the tray, it works fine and i'm able to explore the dvd. The dvd drive is an nec nd-2510a. I am using vista premium 32-bit. Oh, and if i place the same burned dvd into my girlfriends computer running on xp, which has the exact same nec drive, it works fine. Any thoughts?

I don't need anything fancy or expensive. I primarily use my dvd drive to install/play games and occasionally burn something to a dvd. It should be compatible with vista 64-bit and windows 7. Any recommendations?

Partitions Disappeared On New 1.5tb Drive
The scene, circa 1 week ago: i had just installed a brand new 1. 5tb wd hard drive and partitioned it into three equal spaces (ntfs, accessible natively from both linux and windows). I moved my last 10 years' collection of music, sound effects, beats, movies, tv shows, and other random media to the drive, now that it had plenty of room to breathe. The turn: a couple days ago i tried to access my media and couldn't. Got some weird linux-y error box. I figured rebooting would help, but when i did so, the drives didn't auto-mount at all. Manually mounting them didn't work either. Figuring an ntfs problem was best solved with windows, i booted into winxp pro and had a look. The drives (x, y, z) had disappeared, and the partition editor called the whole 1. 5tb drive as unallocated space. Even with a 21 mbps connection, it's going to take me bloody forever to build my media library back. I've tried norton disk doctor and deaddiscdoctor, but to no avail. Norton's like "lol *** did you do" and ddd doesn't even see the drive. Anyone know any tricks that will help me get my files back?

What happened is i turned the computer off from its power button so no shutdown. Sata Hard Drive Disappeared From My Computer
A couple of days ago my computer rebooted by itself, i was sat behind the computer but not actually using it. I didn't think too much of it at the time. However, i discovered that my second sata 250gb hdd had disappeared from my computer (xp). I looked in device manager and it appears to be there still. I have opened it up to check the connections and dusted them off but it just gives me the same thing. Would i be right in thinking that the hard drive has had it's final day?

500 Gig Sata Hard Drive Disappeared
I recently bought a 500gig sata hard drive. My current setup was 1 200gig ide hdd, with windows on it, and another sata 200g for storage. Need Vista Bootable Dvd/cd
I have a lenovo y530 laptop with windows vista home premium, and i'm in need of a vista bootable cd because my system won't load, you get the blue screen of death no matter what, even in safe mode it doesn't start up, it shows that it's loading, but won't even get to the login-screen. I've tried the lenovo onekey recovery system, and i've done e the anti-virus check, nothing wrong, even tried to backup my data so i can re-install, nothing, it doesn't allow me to access my files, and can't let me back anything up therefor. The last resort to save my files, pictures, music and such, would be to use a bootable cd, to then load the computer operating system temporarily on my computer, and then save the files, take out the disc, and reinstall everything, and then hopefully put my files back on, . Etc
Any ideas on how to get the image file? Or maybe an iso?

Liteon Dvd Drive Can't Read Dvd-rw
Pata liteon atapi dvd a dh20a3p can't read dvd-rw yet it can burn data on to them. It can read dvd-r fine and burn on to them. Is there some software missing needed to read dvd-rw or is my drive just not able to read dvd-rw. Edit:-just updated the firmware and it is still unable to read cd-rw discs.

I just bought hitman on dvd and like half way through the movie it got really skippy and eventually froze to where i had to ctrl alt del media player classic. Now it wont even read game discs and i dont see it under my computer. Is it dead or what?
Btw nothing was overheating while watching it and my cpu was at like 3% load.

I switched off the power and switch and connected my new ide lg and it got connected and i switched on the power and a screen came saying"reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device" i pressed the button on the lg drive and it opened but whats the use, it is working but windows doesn't start, so i restarted the pc and went into bios and my master drive which was set to samsung 80 gb hdd was not detected and my slave drive lg dvd drive was not detected either. So to get access to windows i removed the cables connecting the lg drive and now the computer is working fine but plz help me abt my disk drive.

Cd Rom Disappeared
Well, this is a little strange. My cd rom drives are no longer showing up in my computer, and they do not read cd's. However, under device manager, they are there, and show to be working properly. I've tried uninstalling them and reinstalling, updating drivers, updating firmware, messing with crap in the bios, nothing works. Internet Connections Disappeared
So i was babysitting today, and i was using my internet over there with their wi-fi connection. I let the kid online to play a game or whatever, and all of a sudden, my internet like, shuts off. I went down to the bottom of the screen to see if i could try to re-connect to their network, but it says there are no connections. I can't even connect at my own house! I don't know if he clicked on something, or what. But now i can't get online with my laptop. (I'm on my home computer now) but yeah, if any of you know or think you know what went wrong, please help me fix it.

I had a problem with my laptop, which led me to using the windows xp recovery disk supplied plus the utilities disc as supplied. It solved the problem i had, but created a couple of others. Firstly my hibernation facility disappeared despite me going through the process of enabling it. Secondly, when i boot up, the windows size (max and mim) always start on mim and i have to maximise it manually. But on booting up again all the windows are on the minimum size again. Cloning Vista From Old Drive To New
So i just got done getting the drive cloned and ran hdtune a few times. On a couple runs, my min dropped to 10-15mb/s which doesn't seem normal. These are close to the results i typically get though (unless something is loading in the background - this is my os drive by the way). How does it look?

Tape Drive For Vista
Ok since they toke away out of the box tape drive support for vista what is everyone using for doing backups with their tape drives under vista?
The quantum sdlt tape drive was free along with the adaptec scsi card and 80+ tapes that were only used once so i do not want to hear just use an external hard drive. So far it looks like novabackup is the best bet but i was wondering if there was something better or even something that is free.

The quantum sdlt tape drive was free along with the adaptec scsi card and 80+ tapes that were only used once so i do not want to hear just use an external hard drive. So far it looks like novabackup is the best bet but i was wondering if there was something better or even something that is free.

No Floppy Drive Support In Vista
I hooked up my floppy drive last night to flash my vid card and all vista keeps saying is it cannot find a driver for my device. Has anyone here seen or heard of this before and if so is there a fix besides reinstalling o/s?

Moving Vista To New Hard Drive
I have vista basic on my dell. I am going to install a second hard drive. I found on western digital web page that says i can right click the old drive and use cut and it will remove the whole drive from the old western digital and then select the new drive and copy the entire drive to the new hard drive. This sounds too simple. Will it work?

Hard Drive Monitoring For Vista
Can anyone recommend a free utility that can actively monitor the health of a hard drive. I would also like it to give some kind of alert if it detect any kind of problem. I did some searching on [h] and the internet but was not able to find much in the way of freeware.

Flash Drive To Install Vista
I just installed vista with a flash drive but to my dismay it took just as long as with a dvd so i am wondering if my flash drive is a piece of junk or not? It is a pny optima attache 4gb. What is the best flash drive to use for stuff like this?

Booting Vista From Flash Drive
I sell laptops new from manufacture which are mainly sony vaio's. I would like to know if i could boot vista from a flash drive either a usb or memory stick without anything being written to the hard drive. This is to save time on restoring laptop to factory state. Is this possible or is there another solution available.

Dvd Rom Drive, Flash Hard Drive Slowing Data Transfer Speed
Issue a: when i put a cd/dvd into my dvd, the system (my computer/properties) recognizes the hardware, but it will not play. (Drive letter "d". )
Issue b: my computer will not recognize my data (flash?) Cards from my digital camcorder/camera. Issue c: my computer's hard drive (drive letter "c") once accepted my firewire uplink (1333). Now, my nle (pinnacle studio 9 plus) give the error message "drive c is not capable of capturing dv data", meaning it's date transfer rate is too slow. How can i fix these issues? Do i have to buy a new hard drive?

I have a sony dvd-rw drive which works fine when plugged directly as an ide drive. I also have an ide-to-usb cable along with an external power supply for ide devices. I want to connect the the dvd-rw drive as an external drive through the usb port. I have windows xp (sp2). When i plug the dvd-rw drive through the usb port, xp complains that "the device cannot be recognized". It shows up in the device manager as an unknown device under usb controllers. I am have a desktop (p4 1. 4ghz, 256mb rd, usb 1. 0) and a laptop (amd turion, 256mb ddr, usb 2. 0)!
